ST. CLARE’S PRO-LIFE GROUP THOUGHT OF THE WEEK:
“I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child. A direct killing of
the innocent child; murder by the mother herself.”
Saint Teresa of Calcutta
SECOND COLLECTION NEXT WEEKEND
Every year, the Bishops of the United States ask us to contribute to Catholic Relief Services. CRS, as they are known, step forward to assist countries
affected by natural disasters. They are well-respected for the fact that they deliver emergency supplies directly to those affected and that their
overhead is very low.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL Please pray for the souls of Josephine Cirillo and Marion Corcillo who was buried from our
Parish on February 27th.
FATHER PATRICK SULLIVAN, S.J. Father Sullivan has been celebrating Mass on Sundays for
three years and has been most gracious in assisting us with Confessions for our School and Religious Education students. He readily responded to other requests for assistance. We are grateful to him for his priestly presence. Father Sullivan spoke
with Father Aufieri on February 22nd and informed him that medical issues will prevent him from continuing his ministry at our Parish. Father Sullivan has asked Father Aufieri
to convey his prayers and best wishes to our Parishioners. Let us keep Father Sullivan in our
prayers. He was truly a “gift” to our Parish Family.

OUR ASSISTING PRIESTS
We have recently been able to enlist the services of several Priests. Father Edward Dowling, S.J. of Fordham University normally celebrates the 9:00am Mass on Mondays. Father Ugo
Nacciarone, S.J., a retired Missionary to Africa, who is in residence at Fordham University, is usually available to celebrate the 9:00am Masses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Father Bentley Anderson, S.J., a History Professor at Fordham University and Father Frank
Bassett, an Archdiocesan Priest in residence at the Cardinal Egan Clergy Residence have begun to celebrate one Mass each on Sundays. Father Stephan Tran, O. Carm, ministers to our Vietnamese Community. All of our Clergy have other commitments and can only assist us
part-time. We have benefited from their services for our Children’s Confessions, Lenten Stations of the Cross and other Masses on occasion. These fine men share the brotherhood of the Sacrament of
Holy Orders. They reflect the diversity of the Priesthood and enrich our Parish with their unique talents. Thank you, Fathers!
Dear Friends: I always enjoy chatting with you, whether it’s a brief time before or after Mass or when you might pay a visit at the Rectory. Recently, I had a delightful conversation with a parishioner in my office. The lady came into see me with a surprise gift. She had sold her home and, in thanksgiving, she donated an extra $1,000.00 to our “Renew and Rebuild” Campaign. This was above and beyond her initial pledge and I marveled at her thoughtful and generous gesture. Before she left, she passed on to me some Bulletin articles that she had collected over the years from many of the Parishes she had visited. I found a particular piece very relevant for our Lenten reflection:
I found myself thinking this over. Perhaps it might also assist you on your Lenten journey. Happy Feasts of St. Patrick and St. Joseph! Prayerfully in the Lord, CALCULATING THE SPECIFIC

OUR SCRIPTURE READINGS AT MASS
THIS WEEKEND
Book of Exodus, Chap 17, Verses 3-7
In their thirst for water in the desert, God directs Moses to strike a rock with his staff and water issues
Forth. We see this as a prefiguring of Baptism.
Letter of Saint Paul to the Romans, Chap 5, Verses 1-2, 5-8
God loved us even before we were reconciled to him.
Gospel of John, Chap 4, Verses 5-42
In meeting the Samaritan woman at the well, Jesus touches her heart and opens her up to the water of
Eternal Life.
AN INTERVIEW WITH GOD I dreamed I had an interview with God.
“So you would like to interview me?’ God asked. “If you have the time” I said. God smiled “My time is eternity” “What questions do you have in
mind for me?” “What surprises you most about humankind?...”
God answered…”That they get bored with childhood. They rush to grow up and then long to be children again.” “That they lose their health to
make money and then lose their money to restore their health.” “That by thinking anxiously about the future, they forget the present, such that they
live in neither the present not the future.” “That they live as if they will never die, and die as if they had never lived.” God’s hand took mine and we were silent for awhile and then I asked…”As a parent, what are some
of life’s lessons you want your children to learn?” God replied with a smile “To learn they cannot make anyone love them. What they can do is
let themselves be loved.” “To learn that it is not good to compare themselves to others.” “To learn that a rich person is not one who has the
most, but is one who needs the least.” “To learn that it only takes a few seconds to open profound wounds in persons we love, and it takes many years to heal them.” “To learn to forgive by practicing forgiveness.” “To
learn that there are persons who love them dearly, but simply do not know how to express or show their feelings.” “To learn that two people can look at the same thing and see it differently.” “To learn that it is not
always enough that they be forgiven by others. But that they must forgive themselves.” “And to learn that I am here—always.”
