BINGO IS CANCELED

CONFESSION As a reminder, St. Columbanus offers confes-sion on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:45 p.m. You do not need an appointment. Please feel free to stop by and receive the comfort and strength this sacrament provides.

FOR THOSE WHO CANNOT ATTEND MASS Watch mass on TV, pray with your family (rosary), read the scriptures and make an act of spiritual communion

(see below, from Fr. Frank’s May 31, 2020 Pastor’s notes): My Jesus,

I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love You above all things,

and desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally,

come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace You as if You were already there

and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You.

Amen.

THE CLOTHING SHED

The Clothing Donation Shed is temporarily closed due to economic situations related to the Pandemic. We will advise you when it reopens.

WHY SHOULD I PRAY THE ROSARY?

The Rosary is a special set of prayers to God that help us to remember the most important events in the lives of Mary and Jesus. These events are called the Mysteries. There are 20 Mysteries in all: 5 are called the Joyful Mysteries, 5 are called The Luminous Mysteries, 5 are called the Sorrowful Mysteries, and 5 are called the Glo-rious Mysteries. These Mysteries are stories about the lives of Mary and Jesus and each group of Mysteries is called a decade.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS RAFFLE

The St. Columbanus Knights of Columbus Council # 14991 is running their annual “Aid for the Needy” raffle. Only 300 tickets will be sold this year. We have only 3 tickets remaining. Please help us raise our goal of $15,000 for charity. There are 10 cash prizes totaling $15,000 dollars:

~~PASTOR’S NOTES~ November 15, 2020

I am very grateful for all the parishioners who have increased their weekly giving. I know God will richly bless you for your generosity. Please consider signing up for online giving through Parish Giving. It is easy to sign up, just go to our website stcolumbanusparish.org and click on the parish giving image. Unfortunately we have been contacted by a few people who are getting notices for people whose loved ones have passed away but are still receiving mail from the archdiocese. Believe me, I know how upsetting this can be. I still receive letters for my par-ents who have been dead over 19 and 12 years! Although we continuously update our parish register, the archdi-ocese apparently continues to use old, out dated mailing lists even though we have sent them an updated list. Our Mass attendance has slowly been increasing during the co-rona virus restrictions. Just to reassure everyone, we regularly sanitize the church with the recommended cleaning materials and equipment. I again ask that those who attend Mass please wear a mask to cover your mouth and nose for the safety and peace of mind of all our parishioners. I know we all are praying that we may soon return to a more normal mode of daily living.

We have done everything on our end as far as requirements to open up the Martyrs Church for Mass once again. We are waiting on the town who now wants to do a “final inspection.” So will be at least the fourth in-spection that we have undergone. I would like to again encourage everyone to sign up for FORMED.org. It is a Catholic website that provides many fine educational and spiritual videos as well as Catholic movies. I use some of the videos for my Rel. Ed. class on Monday night. I also recommend to you the Dominican Friars online educational videos on the faith at thomisticinstitute.org. On there you can click on Aquinas 101 for short explanations on the faith ac-cording to St. Thomas Aquinas. I also use them in my class. They are only a few minutes in length. There are also longer lectures and discussions. St. Thomas Aquinas was taught by St. Albert the Great whose feast day is today (November 15). Let us continue to pray this month for the Holy Souls. Here is St. Gertrude the Great’s prayer for the faithful departed I mentioned last week: Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the Masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

PRAY THE ROSARY DAILY In Jesus and Mary, Fr. Frank Samoylo

PRAYER AGAINST PLAGUES V. Deal not with us, Lord, according to our sins. R. And take not vengeance on us because of our misdeeds. V. Help us, O God, our Deliverer. R. And for Thy name’s sake, O Lord, free us. V. Remember not, O Lord, our sins of old. R. Hasten to us with Thy compassion, for we are become

exceeding poor. V. St. Sebastian, pray for us. R. That we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ. V. O Lord, hear my prayer. R. And let my cry come unto thee. V. The Lord be with you. R. And with thy spirit. Let us pray. Vouchsafe to hear us, O God, our only salvation! And through the intercession of the glorious and blessed Mary, Mother of God, and ever Virgin, of Thy blessed martyr, Sebas-tian and of all the saints, deliver Thy people from the terrors of Thy wrath, and restore their confidence by the outpouring of Thy compassion. Be moved to pity, O Lord, at our earnest entreaties, and heal the illness of body and soul; so that experiencing Thy for-giveness we may ever rejoice in Thy blessing. We beseech thee, O Lord, grant us a hearing as we devoutly raise our petitions to Thee and graciously turn away the epi-demic of plague which afflicts us; so that mortal hearts may recognize that these scourges proceed from Thine indignation and cease only when Thou art moved to mercy. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, who liveth and reigned with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

MASS INTENTIONS As a reminder, St. Columbanus Church offers mass in-tentions. Most parishioners know these can be taken out for those who passed away and come with a mass card you can give to the grieving. However, we also have a selection of cards for healing and the living. How thoughtful would it be to give a mass card to a loved one who needed healing or strength during a tough time in their life. Feel free to stop by the rectory or call and speak with Sean (914) 737-4705.

St. Columbanus pray for us.
