7th Sunday of Easter

Happy Pentecost Sunday! Let us pray, “Lord Send

out your Spirit, and renew the face of the earth.” We

profess our belief in God, the Holy Spirit, in the creed.

I would like to unpack this mystery of our belief in the

weeks to follow. Let’s just start with the word

“Spirit.” We translate the word “Spirit” from the

Hebrew word ruah. It means wind, air or breath

(CCC691). How does that impact our faith? Every

time we see the word wind, breath or air in scripture

we see the Holy Spirit in action.

Let’s take a look at the first reading of Pentecost Sun-

day. It comes from Acts of the Apostles. After Jesus

ascended to heaven the while the Apostles are waiting

together on the day of Pentecost (which comes from

the word for 50, like the 50th day), a strong wind blew

through the room. This wind is the movement of the

Holy Spirit. After they were filled with the Holy Spir-

it, they began to preach. The breath from their mouths

that formed the words of preaching and conversion is

the Holy Spirit in their lives.

The good news is that the Holy Spirit is part of your

life too. He comes to you in the preaching of the

Apostles on the day of Pentecost just as much as he

fills us today. We will see more of this in the follow-

ing weeks. In the meantime pray that the Holy Spirit

comes in the wind to fill your heart with the power

and conviction of the Apostles at Pentecost.

Séptimo Domingo de Pascua

¡Feliz Domingo de Pentecostés! Oremos: "Señor, en-

vía tu Espíritu y renueva la faz de la tierra". Nosotros

profesamos nuestra creencia en Dios, el Espíritu San-

to, en el credo. Me gustaría deshacer este misterio de

nuestra creencia en las semanas que siguen. Comence-

mos con la palabra "Espíritu". Traducimos la palabra

"Espíritu" de la palabra hebrea ruah. Significa viento,

aire o aliento (CCC691). ¿Cómo afecta eso nuestra fe?

Cada vez que vemos la palabra viento, aliento o aire

en las Escrituras vemos al Espíritu Santo en acción.

Echemos un vistazo a la primera lectura del domingo

de Pentecostés. Proviene de Hechos de los Apóstoles.

Después de que Jesús Ascendió al cielo mientras los

Apóstoles esperan juntos el día de Pentecostés (que

viene de la palabra para 50, como el día 50), un fuerte

viento sopló a través de la habitación. Este viento es el

movimiento del Espíritu Santo. Después de haber sido

llenos del Espíritu Santo, comenzaron a predicar. El
