ST. ISIDORE the FARMER CATHOLIC CHURCH Growing Faith, Family and Friendship since 1961
Mission
We, the parish of St. Isidore the Farmer, are dedicat-
ed to growing a life-long Catholic community. Be-
lieving in the Risen Christ, we are empowered by the
Holy Spirit to celebrate the Eucharist, to be nour-
ished by the Word of God, and to serve the needs of
the local and worldwide community.
August 22, 2020
21st Sunday of Ordinary Time
Reading I: Isaiah 22:19-23
Responsorial: Psalm 138:1-2, 2-3, 6,8(8bc)
Reading II: Romans 11:33-36
Gospel: Matthew 16:13-20
Stewardship: Today’s reading from Isaiah describes the Israel-ites bringing their offering to the Lord “ in clean vessels.” The gift of myself,—my patient endurance and fidelity to the will of God—is as important as the monetary gift I offer.
Vocation View: Peter received his special call when he acknowledged Jesus as Messiah. We, who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, also receive a special call. Ask the Lord to di-rect your heart. (Matthew 16:13-20)

time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Creating Hope during COVID-19 Catholic Charities ministries continue to be available both
remotely and in-person (by appointment only) during the
COIVD-19 pandemic. In fact, we are generally able to assist
people sooner, so if you have been thinking about seeking
counseling services, or seek legal advice from an immigra-
tion attorney, now is a great time.

Witness Publication Updated Information
Please be advised that after careful consideration that
included a thorough review of subscriptions, financ-
es, and available resources, it has been decided that
the archdiocese will discontinue The Witness at 4:30
PM on 30 September 2020. The issue dated 4 Octo-
ber 2020 will be the last.
Subscribers are becoming aware of this news as the
current issue arriving on ‘doorsteps’ this weekend
contains this announcement. Subscribers will also
receive a letter with detailed information in the near
future.
Since the first issue on 24 February 1921, The Wit-
ness, described at that time as “A weekly journal de-
voted to the interests of the Catholic Church” has
been sharing news and stories from the global, na-
tional, and local archdiocesan Church with its sub-
scribers.
The Witness has not been immune to the strains and
hardships experienced by the greater newsprint indus-
try in recent years. The declining number of subscrib-
ers–and therefore the reach of the publication–is in
stark contrast to the amount of resources needed to
continue publishing. This is true even after reducing
the number of issues by half during the last fiscal
year.
No endeavor can last for 99 years without diligent
work by faithful, dedicated, and talented people. We
thank our staff for their hard work. Leaders at the
Archdiocesan Pastoral Center will accompany those
affected by the change through this difficult time.
This is tough news to share and receive. At the same
time, the archdiocesan communications office looks
forward to a new focus on assisting parishes/clusters
communicate with their parishioners through emerg-
ing digital technology.

The St. John’s Mt Vernon 5K Run for th Least will be a virtual run/walk this year. You can go to the Run for the Least facebook page and please share with your friends. It will be interesting to see how world wide the 5K can be-come this year! Remember, while the event is vir-tual your participation is VERY real and the impact it has for the children in the chapel schools is VERY real and VERY important. Too bad the ap-ple pies are not real this year.

Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Dubuque has set
up a Derecho Relief Fund to provide direct relief to indi-
viduals and families, especially those vulnerable populations
that have been disproportionately adversely affected. Abso-
lutely all of the monies donated will go directly to help indi-
viduals and families, where it is most needed, with priority
to those who aren’t eligible for state and federal relief.

Faith Formation Team Update
The Faith Formation Staff at the Archdiocese of Dubuque is
a team of dedicated professionals whose role is to assist par-
ish leaders in the formation of Missionary Disciples. Due to
personnel changes and reallocation of staff responsibilities,
we have some small changes in how we support you. While
each staff member has a specific focus, all members work
together as a team with a shared vision. Adult Faith For-
mation is led by Matt Selby and supported by Lynne Chap-
man who facilitates the IMPACT program. Mary Pedersen is
staying on to support the current IMPACT cohort. Marriage
and Family Life is led by Matt Selby, but Lynne Chapman
will be stepping up to lead the Marriage Preparation pro-
grams such as Engaged Encounter, Pre-Cana, and Two Be-
come One. Youth and Young Adult Ministry is led by Kevin
Feyen with help from Jim Betnzer in registration for youth
events such as TEC and NCYC. Joanne Pohland is leading
Children and Family Formation. Kim Feldman and Tricia
Tranel will continue to assist with resource consultations.
Lynne Chapman will be leading Disability Inclusion advoca-
cy and events. Professional Development Assistance such as
the Religious Studies Grant and Dayton courses are taken
care of by Carla Kasal. Faith Formation Leader event regis-
trations and dietary needs are coordinated by Jim Betzner.
Feel free to reach out to any of us. We work as a team to
connect you to the support you need. If there is anything we
can do to assist you in your role of forming your parishioners
in the faith, please let us know.
