Please consider including your St. James family when planning your will.

RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD

Today’s readings invite us into prayer, into rela-tionship with God. Because relationships feel more natural when we know one another well, Sirach en-courages us to know God better. In his wisdom, Si-rach tells us what God is like: fair, open-minded, compassionate, and attentive. “The Lord will not delay,” he says. Knowing that God’s help comes right on time, whenever we need it, calms our hearts and helps us trust the Lord. In his second Letter to Timothy, Saint Paul demonstrates his own trust in God. Despite the grueling struggles Saint Paul has faced because of his Christian faith, he praises the Lord for rescuing him time and again. Today’s Gos-pel draws us close to Jesus too, revealing his special love for the poor and humble. As Jesus tells his para-ble about the prayer habits of a Pharisee and a tax collector, our hearts long to become as gentle as Christ’s. copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not registered parishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering envelopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godparent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax statement or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Program. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registra-tion form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

Monthly Payment of $3,788.75 (began Dec. 2012) Est. Balance as of Sept 30, 2019: $141,566.85

Respectfulness in the Sanctuary and the Vestibule Please refrain from talking during Mass. Also the vestibule is an exten-sion of the Sanctuary when Mass is going on. There are parishioners and little ones in the vestibule who want to participate in the Mass but need to sit in the vestibule. If there is a need to discuss other matters, please do so outside. Thank you!

Saturday night for Sunday

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

Thank you St. James!! You did it again. You raised more money from this event than ever before and you did it with class.

Thanks to Susan Briare and the St. James Gospel Choir! You were superb, as usual. Thanks also to Brashawn Finks, Cedric

Peery and Latoya Silmon, our announcer, for a fabulous job.

Thanks also to the committee members who worked so diligently every year to put this event together. We are always in need of

additional support and we could not have been successful if not for all of the folks who came to our rescue on the day of the event.

Thank you all for your work and support in making the 16th Annual St. James Gospel Jazz Brunch a success!

E. Lavonne Lewis, Chairman

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,

The National Collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services, USA is scheduled for the weekend of 3 November 2019. The AMS receives no funding from the U.S. Government or the U.S. Military, has no parishes for weekly in-pew collections, and must rely primarily on private donations to fund an annual operating budget of over $8 million.

Established as a Military Archdiocese in 1985 by St. John Paul II, the AMS is responsible for providing all pastoral ministries to those serving in the United States Armed Services, enrolled in U.S. Military Acade-mies, undergoing treatment in 153 Department of Veterans Affairs Medi-cal Centers, and their families. Their pastoral care extends to those who hail from all 50 states and from the U.S. territories, stationed in bases around the world, including here in Southern Nevada.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops approved a national collection for the Archdiocese for the Military Services every three years. These funds help to make possible important initiatives for the military, including marriage retreats, catechetical certification, and seminarian programs.

Please be generous to the Archdiocese for the Military Services serving Catholic military men and women and their families who are part of this global archdiocese - many who hail from parishes in our own diocese - with your donation to the 2019 Triennial National Collection for the AMS. Let us help them to serve those who serve.

May the Lord bless you and your families for your faithfulness and gener-osity.

Sincerely yours in Christ, + George Leo Thomas Bishop of Las Vegas

Light a Candle, Say a Prayer, - Did you know we have a spe-cial reserved area for prayer in our church? It's our little Blessed Sacrament chapel, and it's located in the Northwest corner of the church. There, we reserve some consecrated hosts - the Body of Christ - in the tabernacle (that is why we have a candle burning in that area). We also have a panel of votive candles. A strong tradition among Christians since the beginning of the Church is to light a candle, while saying a prayer for a loved one or for a special intention. The lighted candle represents Christ, the Light of the World, who brings light and life into our lives. Donations are made when lighting a candle. So, take a moment after mass sometime, to visit Our Lord in the chapel, and Light a Candle, Say a Prayer, and Support your Church!
