DID YOU KNOW….. that five of “our own” will be honored for their military and community service, by the Legacy Foundation and Canyon Vista Medical Center? Portraits of Lori Wysong, Glenn McDaniel, Jose Baeza, John Black, and Deacon Joe Delgado (Bisbee), will be placed on the Veterans’ Wall in the Hospital, along with a history of their service! There are 12 honorees chosen each year for this honor! Lori, Glenn, Jose, John, and Deacon Joe will be videotaped for the official presentation, scheduled for 10 November (virtual), and their military/community service will be highlighted! We are very proud of these parishioners and Deacon Joe! If you check out the ‘history’ of the Veterans’ Wall – and the list of past recipients from 2015, you will find many names you will recognize – a number of them are our fellow-parishioners! Individuals are nominated by members of the community, and the honorees are chosen by a committee appointed by the Legacy Foundation and the hospital. Our Parish’s record of honoring our Veterans goes back many decades, and is beautifully exemplified in our St. Michael’s Chapel in the church! Among the features of the Chapel are: the folded flag, which flew over the Pentagon on 9/11, a sword honoring the U.S. Marine Corps, the stained glass window, featuring a purple heart, photos of Military Chaplains with a special connection to the Parish, the roster of the Chaplains who have served at Fort Huachuca since 1958, and the ceiling light fixture featuring a steel combat helmet from Viet Nam, and the seals of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard. Other military mementos can also be found on the walls. It is not uncommon to find ‘unit coins’ and small stones from combat zones, left at the base of St. Michael’s statue, as a ‘manda’ – or votive offering – by returning servicemen and servicewomen! St. Andrew’s was also a major donor for the construction of the Chapel at the Southern Arizona Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, and, with our Bishop Salpointe Council of the Knights of Columbus, was a major sponsor of the Gold Star (Parents’) Memorial at SAVMC! Each week in the Sunday bulletin, you will find a ‘prayer list’ for those who are currently serving in the military, with the invitation to pray for these men and woman in uniform! Please, never miss an opportunity to thank those who have served, and acknowledge the price that has been paid for our freedom as a nation! Thank you for you support for our Haiti Rectory Project! Last week, we received $25 in new gifts for this important project for our sister-parish, Mole St-Nicolas, in Haiti! We have photos of the Project on display in our social media sites – with amazing photos of the ‘human conveyor belt’ lifting the buckets of concrete up two stories! The wages for this work are about $10 a day. Your support of this project is not only providing renovated/extended living and working space for the Priests, but also boosting the local economy, with important ‘ripple effects’ in the lives of our sisters and brothers in this, the poorest nation in the hemisphere! Please be generous – it makes a world of difference!

PRAYER FOR THE CANONIZATION OF PADRE KINO

Almighty and merciful Father, Lord of the Nations, You inspired your servant, Eusebio Francisco Kino, with a love for the Peoples of the Americas, and filled him with selfless zeal for the Gospel. Your love for the desert Peoples of the Americas came to life in him, forming him into a bridge-builder between peoples and cultures – a prophet of justice in service to their lives and dignity. We thank You for the heavenly favors bestowed upon him in his lifetime of service. Inspired by his example, and, we ask that You open our hearts to continue his legacy of peace and loving service today. We hope in his intercession before Your heavenly throne, and we beg You to grant the petitions we now bring before You. . . Also, if it be in accord with Your will, we ask, too, that the holiness of his life may result in a declaration of sainthood, so that his example might inspire peace, understanding and justice around the world. We ask this through Christ our Lord, for the greater glory of Your Name. Amen.

SOUL FOOD: “. . .the marvelous thing about this Man, JESUS of Nazareth, is that, when we go to Him, we encounter not just a great (or even the greatest) human being, but always God His Fa-ther, ‘the Lord of heaven and earth.’ JESUS is the window to the freedom and the vast-ness of eternity, the entryway into the abyss of God’s Trinitarian Being.” - Brother Simeon Leiva-Merikakis, O.C.S.O. 1946 - )

The Craft Group meets Thursdays 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM in Madonna Hall, Room 1. The Craft Group works on craft items and organizes donated items for sale at the Ladies Bazaar and Saint Nicholas Fair in support of Parish needs and charities. All parishioners are welcome to share their talents! During these uncertain times, many parishioners have been working on crafts at home. We need all you generous and talented at-home crafters to drop your donated finished items at the Parish Office so we can price and organize them before the Bazaar. A special thank you to all Parishioners for the crafted donations we have re-ceived. The Craft Group gratefully accepts yarn, material, and any other crafting items. If you have questions, suggestions, or need craft supplies for your do-nation project, call Fran Cassidy at 803-0298. Thank you!!!

There will be a public Rosary on October 16 in front of Chili's at 12 pm. This is a change in time because on this day, Oct 16,

there will be 20,000 public Rosaries at noon across the USA.

This is the celebration of Our Lady of Fatima. The Rosary of all Rosaries.

We pray a public Rosary because:

1. The miracle of the sun was public. 70,000 people saw it and some were anti-catholics and communists and atheist and some converted. Public Rosaries remind us conversion is possible.

2. Reach fallen away Catholics. If they see us praying the Rosary, they may decide to become better Catholics.

3. Pro-life Catholics have peacefully prayed the Rosary in front of abortion clinics for years and now abortion clinics are closing one per month. 4. Our culture openly flaunts sin. You hear it on TV, public airways, the internet. Laws favor abor tion, same-sex marriage, and euthanasia. Our public Rosary will offer reparation for sins hurled against the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus. 5. Will the media ever promote Fatima? Never! Catholics must never be ashamed of our Faith. Matthew 10:32 says, "Everyone therefore shall confess me before men, I will also confess them before My Father Who is in Heaven." 6. At the end of World War II, Communist Soviet troops occupied Vienna, Austria. They refused

to leave. Yet after massive public Rosary processions led by Fr. Petrus Pavlicek, the Communist invaders packed up and left. Public Rosaries in Brazil in 1964 thwarted communist takeover of that country. 7. St. Louis de Montfort wrote in his book, "The Secret of the Rosary", "Public prayer is far more powerful than private prayer to appease the anger of God and call down his mercy, and Holy Mother Church, guided by the Holy Ghost, has always advocated public prayer in times of public tragedy and suffering."

Year of St. Joseph: Patron of the Dying December 8, 2020—December 8, 2021

Joseph raised the young man who, when full grown, would not turn away from death but go right into it … He shared a life with the woman who was preserved from sin and would not die, but would be assumed into full communion with her glorified Son … no one knows the sorrow and joy of a Christian death like Saint Joseph, patron of the dying. “Saint Joseph, remember to pray for us with your blessed spouse at the hour of our death, and teach us how to die well in the love of your beautiful Jesus.”

Model of Faith:Reflections on the Litany of Saint Joseph by Leonard J. DeLorenzo pg.94-95.
