Statue of St. Andrew

Our Parish’s statue of St. Andrew, which hung in the back of the church for years has now been moved. The permanent location is in the front of the church on the right side of the alter.

As our patron saint, please pray St. Andrew intercedes on our behalf to bestow many blessings on our Parish and our community.

St. Andrew Prayer O Glorious Saint Andrew, you were the first to recognize

and follow the Lamb of God. With your friend Saint John,

you remained with Jesus for that first day, for your entire life, and now throughout eternity.

As you led your brother, Saint Peter, to Christ and many others after him, draw us also to Him.

Teach us to lead others to Christ solely out of love for Him and dedication in His service.

Help us to learn the lesson of the Cross and to carry our daily crosses without complaint

so that they may carry us to Jesus.

A Note From: Fr. Thomas Vellapallil, MS

I was born in India, and spent the first four years after ordination working in the Philippines. I have been ministering in the USA for over 19 years; first I was in ministry of education and formation of seminarians and then in pastoral ministry. I am now Director of the La Salette Mission Center since January 2011, where my goal is to raise funds for La Salette Missionaries working in poor and underdeveloped mission countries. It will be my pleasure to speak to you about the mission activity of the Church and the La Salette Missionaries.

The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette

Having brought the fullness of Life to our world when He rose from the dead, Jesus sent his disciples to share this life with all of creation. “They went forth and preached everywhere” (Mk 16:20). The Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette minister to people of every race, language, culture and way of life – beginning at the La Salette Shrine in France where our Blessed Mother appeared in 1846. Her final words to the two children (Maximin and Melanie), “Well, my children, you will make this known to all my people,” echo Jesus’ Gospel mandate. It is little wonder that the La Salette Congregation has always been mission orientated. When called upon by the Vatican to preach the Gospel in foreign lands, they eagerly responded. This spirit brought them to mission in 27 countries, especially among the poor in Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Haiti, India, Madagascar, Myanmar and the Philippines. With your cooperation, the Missionaries of La Salette can continue to provide spiritual and financial assistance to these mission countries as they bring God’s reconciling message to the poor.

…neighbor helping neighbor... Our helpline 815-886-4165 ext. 304

All calls are confidential with callbacks within 24 hours.

In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us that “whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.” Prayer is an encounter with God that reassures us who we are and gives us the strength

to take up our daily cross, and lose ourselves in Jesus. By opening ourselves in prayer to the divine Presence, we are actually opening ourselves to our own identity and mission.

Our yellow donation envelops are in the back of the church and at the hall exists. If you or someone you know is in need of temporary assistance please call our helpline.

The Senior Planning Group will be meeting on Thursday, June 30 at

9:00am in the Parish Office to plan the upcoming year. If you are

interested in being part of the planning or have ideas for this coming year, please come and join us

at the Parish Office on June 30.

With Gratitude

What a beautiful Easter season we celebrated! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped decorate the church throughout Lent, Holy Week and Easter. You put in some late hours; and our church looked spectacular. To all the musicians who were here not only for all the celebrations, but many, many rehearsals, thank you.

Psalm 47 shouts: “God goes up with shouts of joy.

The Lord goes up with trumpet blast. Sing praise for God; sing praise!

Sing praise to our king; sing praise!”

Our Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors, Ushers, Altar Servers, and Knights of Columbus worked over-time to be sure our Masses and Services were prayerful. Thank you. We are blessed to have many Deacons to assist our priests. We appreciate you all. Our dedicated priests always had the right words to share with us at all of our Lenten, Holy Week, and Easter Masses and Services. They make our journey holy and help lead us to the Heavenly Father. God bless you.

TOTUS TUUS NEW SUMMER YOUTH PROGRAM

St. Andrew the Apostle July 16-22, 2016

WHAT IS TOTUS TUUS? Totus Tuus is a week-long “parish mission” for Catholic youth whereby seminarians and college students proclaim the Gospel and promote the Catholic faith through evangelization, catechesis, apologetics, Christian witness, the sacraments, Marian devotion, Eucharistic worship, and FUN!

Totus Tuus seeks to inspire in young people a true longing for holiness, a deep desire for daily conversion, and openness to their vocation by constantly challenging them to give themselves entirely to Christ through Mary and by continually strengthening their prayer lives in imitation of Her.

TOTALLY YOURS Totus Tuus, a Latin phrase meaning “totally yours,” was the motto of St. John Paul II. Taken from St. Louis de Montfort’s True Devotion to Mary, it signifies our desire to give ourselves entirely to Jesus Christ through the hands of our Blessed Mother Mary. It also expresses our effort to give all that we have to every young person we encounter.

Intención de Misa Para Todo Los Padres Presente y Ausentes.

Ethan Joseph Baznik

GRANT ETERNAL REST, LIGHT AND PEACE TO ALL FAITHFUL DEPARTED: Jean Berry, Arlene Repetowski, Denise Figueroa

Please call the parish office by Monday at (815) 886-4165 for the name of your loved one to be placed for 3 weeks on our short term prayer list. Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.

Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s — it doesn’t hurt to say it a few times, either! Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us, too, at the office, ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves us!

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.
