Rev. Gregor Gorsic, Pastor (815) 886-4165 ext. 317

My dear family of St. Andrew the Apostle and St. Patrick! As I reflect on my 21 years of priesthood – 12 of those blessed years at St. Andrew’s – I give thanks to God for His marvelous Providence and Love for me all these many years! I also look back on my first assignments at SS. Peter and Paul in Naperville, and St. Teresa in Kankakee, and I see only Jesus who has been my most faithful Lord and friend, merciful, forgiving, loving, gentle, compassionate, and humble of heart! Would that I could continue to reflect to others just a small smidgeon of His goodness that He pours out on me! Of His peace and joy! I hope each one of you has felt the most powerful, overpowering love of Jesus just a little through my presence, my faith, and my joy! It is my most fundamental prayer everyday. It is the wisdom of Jesus working through His Church that provides a time of renewal and refocus and repurpose. Before my next move to my new family of St. Patrick Parish, Joliet, I have been given permission to take some time for a sabbatical. I am so looking forward to this gift and opportunity! Back in January of this year, I wrote to our Bishop Daniel Conlon the following: “I would prefer not to be assigned to a new parish and have to come in to say ‘hello, St. ??, and good-bye for the next 3-6 months.’” I simply do not want to be an “absent pastor” from the beginning for the first few months of a new assignment. I am extremely grateful to Bishop Conlon for honoring my request. He has given me permission to go on sabbatical before beginning to serve the good people at St. Patrick’s Parish in Joliet, so that I can enjoy and deepen my friendship with our Lord Jesus without the profound responsibility of pastor that is such a great blessing and constant care. I want to share with you a few of the diocesan policies governing sabbaticals. First, “All priests should be encouraged to take a sabbatical when they qualify.” All diocesan priests “incardinated into the Diocese and ordained at least 15 years (with 7 years of service in the diocese) shall be eligible for a sabbatical, and then shall be eligible for another sabbatical every 10 years following the first.” Also, “The sabbatical normally lasts 3-6 months,” and the “Diocese has three criteria for a sabbatical. A sabbatical plan is expected to include: 1) a two-thirds structured program; 2) spiritual renewal; 3) some free time.” So my overall sabbatical time plan looks like this: six weeks in Spain, which will include my first 30-day Ignatian Spiritual Exercises retreat plus a pilgrimage of some 250-miles towards Santiago de Compostela; then six weeks in the Holy Land, as I continue my studies of Biblical Hebrew and spend time at the Tantur Ecumenical Institute, Bethlehem/Jerusalem; and finally the last six weeks of a lengthier vacation and free time, mostly spent in Slovenia with family and friends. Again, gratitude fills my heart that God through our Bishop Conlon has given me this most holy and precious time for renewal, re-focusing, and re-purposing! I ask you, my family of St. Andrew the Apostle and of St. Patrick, to keep me close to your heart in your prayers for safe travels, a time of refreshment, light, and peace, and a safe return, refreshed for the next chapter of my call to follow Jesus, the Bridegroom, and to serve Him and His Bride, the Church, as His priest and the friend of His Heart! In the loving Hearts of Jesus and Mary, Fr. Gregor

SECOND COLLECTION FUND FOR DIOCESAN INFIRMED AND ELDERLY PRIESTS

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

This year, Father’s Day is celebrated on June 17. There will be a special collection taken at Masses on June 16-17 to care for our infirmed and senior priests. The

Fund for Diocesan Infirmed and Elderly Priests is a special way for the people of the Diocese of Joliet to express their concern for the welfare of those who have dedicated their lives in service to our pastoral care.

The money in this fund goes toward priests who need help with extraordinary medical expenses or suffer a catastrophic illness. It also provides for the care of the St. John Vianney Villa, home to several senior priests in the Diocese of Joliet.

Prayerfully consider making a donation to help our aged and sick priests as an expression of appreciation for all they have done in exemplifying Christ’s mercy, through their spiritual guidance and celebration of the sacraments.

On behalf of all the active and senior priests of the diocese, I am grateful for your prayers and for your generous support of the Father’s Day Collection for our aged and infirm diocesan priests. Please be assured of my prayers for you. Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon Bishop of Joliet

Grzech przeszkadza. Ty pragniesz zamieszkać w czystych sercach wolnych od zła. Pomóż walczyć z grzechem, Ty w nas zwycieżaj, bo sił ubywa – tych ludzkich.

Jezu, pomóż, bym zawsze miał czyste serce, aby Cię przyjąć, abym był mocny Tobą, by zwyciężać zło. -Św. Jan Paweł II

Also, please call the parish office, if you are hospitalized and would like a visit from our hospital ministry team or homebound and in need of communion.

Hospital Visitation of Parishioners Please remember that if you or any family members find yourselves in a hospital, be sure to let them know you are a parishioner at St. Andrew’s. Whenever we priests, deacons or Eucharistic Ministers come to visit, we check the hospital list of parishioners printed under “St. Andrew.” But if you’re not listed as a parishioner of St. Andrew, we won’t know you’re even there! We do not want to miss you! You can always call us at the office, (815) 886-4165 ext. 301. Thank you. May the Lord Jesus be with you all your days, to love and be loved by Him, to honor and serve Him, as He honors and serves

A COMMUNITY OF WORD AND SACRAMENT SACRAMENTS OF INITIATION

CATECHUMENATE The Catechumenate is a community which gathers those adults who have not been baptized, and seek deeper insight into the Christian faith.

BAPTISM OF CHILDREN

We joyfully celebrate the baptism of children of Christian households which are joined to our weekly worship, and have active registration in our parish community for at least 3 months. After registration in the parish, please attend an Evening of Awareness, if you have not attended a class in the past two years, to register for Baptism and select a date. Classes are presented on the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall. Baptism is celebrated on the third Sunday of the month at 1:30 p.m.

EUCHARIST AND CONFIRMATION

Formation for those coming first to the table of the Lord as children is infused into the efforts of our school and Faith Formation Office. Confirmation formation is a two year process completed in eighth grade. Please call the Faith Formation Office for more information.

SACRAMENTS OF COMMITMENT

MARRIAGE

Marriage preparation is a six month process of prayer, reflection and study. Couples work with both the presider and a sponsor couple through this process. Please note that this six month period of preparation is essential.
