THE TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
My Dearest Brothers and Sisters in the Lord,
With summer winding down, it is time to turn our
attention to the Religious Education Program for our fellow
parishioners. The first event is going to be the Catechist Meeting
this upcoming Monday, August 28th, from 6:00 until 7:30 P.M., in
the Church Hall. I am deeply grateful to our entire Religious
Education staff for returning for another year. These dedicated
fellow parishioners are most willing to spread the Catholic Faith to
the families in the program; I want to thank God every day for
their ministry; they certainly have my prayerful support.
Next weekend features Labor Day on Monday,
September 4th. May we always ask God’s blessings upon all the
work that we do whether it is accomplished professionally or
personally. God always takes a bad situation and brings great good
from it; a perfect example of that is labor. While the necessity to
work is an effect of the original sin of our first parents, Adam and
Eve, the Good Lord has turned labor from being a curse to being a
blessing if we do the work that He wants us to do in this life. May
all of our work have as its goal the glory of God and the salvation
of souls.
Next Sunday, September 3rd, we will be celebrating our
first Family Mass of the year at 10:30 A.M. We will also have the
Instructional Prayer Meeting at Noon until 1:00 P.M. on that same
day. The topic is: the Rite of Eucharistic Devotion; I will try to
convey the history of it and why we have this rite in Catholicism
and Orthodoxy; you are most welcome to attend.
Speaking of prayer, we will resume the Spirit of Life
Prayer Group on Tuesday, September 5th, from 7:00 until 8:30
P.M. I am very sorry that we have had a three week period without
the Prayer Group but the Holy Day of Obligation of the
Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was on the 15th, the
Advisory Committee for Parish Development was on the 22nd, and
I hope to visit my sick brother and his family from the 29 th until
September 1st. Please continue to pray for a miracle healing for
Gene and Connie from their MS disease if that be what is best for
the eventual salvation of their souls. Of course, since my first
responsibility is to our fellow parishioners, if a funeral occurs, I
will return for that since the Pastor should be there for parishioners
in their time of need.
ALL LADIES OF THE PARISH WHO ARE AT LEAST
EIGHTEEN YEARS OF AGE ARE MOST WELCOME TO THE
ALTAR ROSARY SOCIETY MEETING STARTING AT 6:30
P.M., WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 6th BEGINNING WITH
THE RECITATION OF THE HOLY ROSARY IN THE
CHAPEL.
The Church Store will be open for business on Saturday,
September 9th, from 3:30 until 5:00 P.M. and after the 5 P.M. Holy
Mass and on Sunday, September 10th, after the 8:30 and 10:30
A.M. Holy Masses.
Speaking of September 10th, you are most welcome to
make reservations for our Fifth Annual Parish Picnic (a.k.a.
Parishioner Appreciation Picnic) starting at 1:00 P.M. on that
Sunday, at the Centerville Firehouse pavilion and grounds. I am
very grateful to Centerville’s Bravest for permitting us to use their
property for the fifth year in a row. Please call Denise Dudzic to
make your reservations at (845) 750-8510.
Speaking of the Religious Education Program, you are
most welcome to the Opening Holy Mass on Monday, September
11th, at 6:20 P.M., in the Church.
Community Action/Food Pantry meeting will be on
Tuesday, September 12th, at 1:30 P.M., in the Church Hall.
The Finance Council will meet in the Rectory on
Tuesday, September 12th, at 4:00 P.M.
Junk in the Trunk will be Saturday, September 16th, from
10:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., in the Church Parking Lot.
The 20-Week Club Dinner will be Sunday, September
17th, starting at 1:00 P.M., at Anthony’s in Catskill. Next weekend,
September 2nd and 3rd, the 20-Week Club Committee will begin to
sell raffle tickets after the Holy Masses.
Sincerely, with prayers,
Father Bill Woodruff

THANK YOU– I wanted to take a minute to thank you for your
hospitality when I came for the Mission Appeal. The dinner at
Emiliani’s on Saturday evening and the brunch at Howard
Johnson’s the next day was great. I enjoyed the peace and quite
of your parish grounds and I felt very much at home sharing my
experience with your people. The travel to Hyde Park was easy
and the scenery was beautiful. I was glad to see some friends at
Mariapolis. The trip back was a bit long, but uneventful.
United in prayer, Fr. Bruno

JOKE– When I arrived for my daughter’s parent-teacher
conference, the teacher seemed a bit flustered, especially
when she started telling me that my little girl didn’t always
pay attention in class and was sometimes a little flighty.
“For example, she’ll do the wrong page in the workbook,” the
teacher explained, “and I’ve even found her sitting in the wrong
desk.” “I don’t understand that,” I replied defensively. “Where
could she have gotten that from?” The teacher went on to
reassure me that my daughter was still doing fine in school and
was sweet and likeable. Finally, after a pause, she added, “By the
way, Mrs. Johnson, our appointment was for tomorrow.”
PRAYER FOR LIFE
Jesus, Mary and Joseph we love you very much.
Help us spiritually adopt and protect all human life
from preborn to natural death.
Amen.

MAKING ALL THINGS NEW
God our Father, through the Gospel and the Eucharist,
You bring us together as Your Church in the
Archdiocese of New York.
Send us Your Holy Spirit, to enlighten our minds and guide our actions
as we plan for the future of parish life in this Archdiocese.
Help us learn new ways to strengthen and revitalize our parish
communities, and to be good stewards of the spiritual and material gifts
that sustain them.
Bless our work, so that our parishes may continue to witness to the truth
of the Gospel, and be a sign of Your love for all people.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME
God has a way of allowing us to be in the
right place at the right time.
I was walking down a dimly lit street late one evening
when I heard muffled screams coming from behind a clump of
bushes. Alarmed, I slowed down to listen and panicked when I
realized that what I was hearing were the unmistakable sounds of
a struggle: heavy grunting, frantic scuffling and tearing of fabric.
Only yards from where I stood, a woman was being
attacked. Should I get involved? I was frightened for my own
safety and cursed myself for having suddenly decided to take a
new route home that night.
What if I became another statistic? Shouldn't I just run
to the nearest phone and call the police? Although it seemed an
eternity, the deliberations in my head had taken only seconds, but
already the cries were growing weaker. I knew I had to act fast.
How could I walk away from this?
No, I finally resolved, I could not turn my back on the
fate of this unknown woman, even if it meant risking my own life.
I am not a brave man, nor am I athletic. I don't know where I
found the moral courage and physical strength -- but once I had
finally resolved to help the girl, I became strangely transformed.
I ran behind the bushes and pulled the assailant off the
woman. Grappling, we fell to the ground, where we wrestled for a
few minutes until the attacker jumped up and escaped.
Panting hard, I scrambled upright and approached the
girl, who was crouched behind a tree, sobbing. In the darkness, I
could barely see her outline, but I could certainly sense her
trembling shock. Not wanting to frighten her further, I at first
spoke to her from a distance.
"It's OK," I said soothingly. "The man ran away. You're
safe now." There was a long pause and then I heard the words,
uttered in wonder, in amazement. "Dad, is that you?" And then,
from behind the tree, stepped my youngest daughter, Katherine.

“Please Pray For All Bishops, Priests, Deacons & Religious!”
"I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you
bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose
on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Then he strictly ordered his
disciples to tell no one that he was the Christ.
