PROCLAIM THE WONDER OF GOD

The gift of the Spirit is given freely, not according to human expectations, but according to the generosity of God. Joshua wants Moses to stop Eldad and Medad from prophesying in the camp, when they were not with the others as the spirit was bestowed on them. Moses, so close to God’s mind in the matter, wishes everyone could possess the spirit of God and proclaim it to the nations. Psalm 19 celebrates the perfection of God’s law, and how it brings joy and delight. It is better than the finest gold or the sweetest honey. Moreo-ver, God gives the wisdom of the prophets to everyone, especially the simple and lowly ones, even to children. It is the “little ones” who proclaim the wonder of God to all.

Blessings, Fr. Kiely

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — Moses said, “Would that all the people of the L were prophets!” (Numbers 11:25-29). Psalm — The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart (Psalm 19). Second Reading — Come now, you rich. The wages you withheld from the workers who harvested your fields are crying aloud (James 5:1-6). Gospel — Whoever is not against us is for us (Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48).

CATSKILL NEIGHBORS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS This all-volunteer group serves elders in the mountain country where Ulster, Greene, and Delaware Counties meet. Their mission is to help seniors stay at home with dignity. In our rural area, many seniors are isolated - without cars, without internet, and without nearby family. If you can offer about 3 hours/week, you can make a big difference for a person who is a shut-in. Parishioner Pat Ruane coordinates volunteers for Shandaken, and would love to hear from our Wood-stock parishioners, since a number of new clients from Woodstock and Olivebridge have reached out for help. You can reach Pat at 845-688-5357 or email [email protected]

175th ANNIVERSARY OF OUR LADY OF LA SALETTE

Parishioners and visitors filled the church on a beautiful Sep-tember 19th for a Special Liturgy of Our Lady of La Salette! After Mass, the celebrants and parishioners crossed the street to the Grotto for a brief ceremony and blessing. A delicious lunch-eon was then served in the Parish Hall – a beautiful close to a joyful celebration honoring our Blessed Mother at La Salette. (Photos next week). We would appreciate your photos from the event...for our church, and for the visiting celebrants. Please send them to Pam (845-688-2642) at [email protected]. Thank you.
