S ixth Sunday of Easter Share in the Power This Sunday is two weeks before

Pentecost, but already the readings prepare us for that feast. The first reading from Acts shows us the conversion of the Samaritans, thanks to Philip's preaching and curing the sick. He did this through the power of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit makes Jesus present today, not just in the sacraments, but through us, his disciples. The Gospel gives us a hint of this in Jesus' words: "I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you" (John 14:20). Jesus knew that after his Resurrection appearances, he would not be visible as a man. Instead, he would live in all of his followers through the power of the Holy Spirit. That's why he tells the disciples that the Spirit will be with them and in them. So confirmation, the laying on of hands (Acts 8:17), reminds us that when God lives in us, we share in the power of the Holy Spirit. In the second reading, Peter gives us practi-cal advice. First, he tells us to be ready to explain our hope in the Lord. That hope comes from our faith in the Resurrection. When you see someone curing the sick, you could be tempted to say, "I can't do that." But when you hear that people saw and talked to Jesus after he rose from the dead, then hear that anyone who follows Jesus will share in that resurrection, you begin to have real hope. When we share that hope, we do so gently and reverently. None of this "I'm saved and you're not!" stuff. We are all sin-ners and Christ's death brought us all for-giveness. Next, Peter tells us to avoid sin, not because we won't be forgiven again, but to show that we can live a life free from sin, selfishness, and hatred. Freedom from sin allows us to give a good example of how to live. Aban-doning selfishness allows us to love others without counting the cost. When we are free from hatred, we are able to forgive others as we have been forgiven. As we live in Jesus and he in us, our happiness will attract peo-ple to God. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. The Influence of Catholic Education on the Life of a Child

Public schools cannot compare with the educational environment we provide at Holy Family Cath-olic School. Our students are well prepared by our academic program. We consistently receive positive feedback from both Montini Catholic High School and Immaculate Conception College Prep on how well our students perform. At Holy Family, special subjects like Technology, Art, Music, PE, and Spanish, and extracurricular activities including athletics, choir, chess, engineering, and guitar enrich the students’ academic experience. Our dedicated teachers, Resource Special-ist, instructional assistants, Social Worker, and Interventionist coordinate efforts to meet the indi-vidual needs of all students. Furthermore, with plans to create an integrated library and technolo-gy lab, and expand the Spanish language program, HFCS is ready to help your child meet the chal-lenges of the future. However, what really sets HFCS apart is our Catholic culture. In the Diocese of Joliet, our motto is: We Teach More! We strive to help our students see all that is true, good, and beautiful in the world and help them grow in their personal relationships with Jesus. In so doing, we further the mission of the Church to develop modern day Disciples of Christ. At HFCS, students realize they belong to something bigger. They begin to see how they can change the world. Holy Family School, Faith—Family—Future!

For more information and a tour, please call our Principal, Linda Kelly, at 630-766-0116.

*Students transferring from another Catholic school within the Dioceses of Joliet, Peoria, Rockford, Springfield and the Archdi-ocese of Chicago are not eligible.
