Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Statement from The Most Reverend Paul J. Swain

Bishop of Sioux Falls August 13, 2017

In response to the demonstrations promoting racism in Charlottesville, VA

The recent violence in Charlottesville, Virginia saddens and shocks all people of good will. It also ought to prick our consciences.

Racism, especially in this instance of white supremacy, is sinful. It is to be both rejected and condemned. Hateful and criminal

violence is only its most extreme expression.

Inherent in our Catholic faith is that all persons are created by God in His likeness and, therefore, are children of God.

Every person in all our diversity is deserving of respect and the freedom to live lives of dignity and safety.

As St. Paul reminds us: “For all of you who were baptized into

Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free person, there is

not male or female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal 3:27-28). Christ’s invitation is offered to all.

Let us reject all forms of violence and

pray for greater respect, mutual understanding, and reconciliation.

Lord, make us instruments of your peace . . .

where there hatred let us sow love.

Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 20, 2017

Jesus said, “O woman, great is your

faith! Let it be done for you as you

wish.” And the woman’s daughter

was healed from that hour.”

YOUTH FUNDRAISING MEETING Parents and youth in 8th-12th grades are asked to attend this short meeting on Wednesday, September 6th @ 7:30pm in the FCMC to brainstorm ideas and set dates for fundraising events. Some dates & events have been set-up already, but we will need your verification on additional ideas & dates that will work for most everyone. With a positive response to our summer youth conference and diocesan discipleship camp this summer, we plan on moving forward with fundraising for a future Steubenville Youth Conference or a Catholic Heart Work Camp in June 2018. The fee for both of these events will roughly cost between $350-$375. We ask that youth take advantage of all the fundraising opportunities that are being offered. Scholarship money will also be available for any high school youth.

ADULT Safe Environment Training It's time again to renew your safe environment training for this year! As Catholics, we must be vigilant if we want our local parishes, schools, and community to be a safe environment for our children to learn and practice their faith. In order to create and maintain existing safe environments, the Catholic Diocese of Sioux Falls requires all adults and youth to complete an annual Safe Environment Program (SEP). Safe environment training is for all adults who are hired by the church, or volunteers with youth or vulnerable adults. Such programs are religious education, youth discipleship, Martha's kitchen, and taking communion to the homebound. Please get your training completed by Sept 1. Any questions please call JoLynn. 1. Go to www.sfcatholic.org/safe-envrionment to access the online portal to CMG Connect. 2. Click on the Online Training Portal image 3. Login or Create an Account a. If you have done Safe Environment training for the Diocese last year, you already have an account. Click on “Sign in Here” located in the green square in top right-hand corner of the screen. Please login with your previous username and password. If you cannot remember your username and password, please click the FAQ or the Support tab for additional information. b. If you have never created a CMG Connect account, create an account by completing the first tab under “Register for a New Account” then click “Next Step” to proceed to the next tab. 4. After you have signed-in or have created a new account, your Dashboard will show your “Required Trainings” and “Optional Trainings”. Complete all trainings listed under “Required Trainings” and any optional trainings required by your location. To complete the curriculums listed under the trainings headings, click on the blue “Start Curriculum’” button. 5. After clicking “Start Curriculum” you will be redirected to the curriculum. Each section must be completed before you may move on. To get to the next section, you will click “Submit Answers” or “Next” and it will automatically push you to the next page. You will know you have completed that section because it will appear in the lower right-hand corner of the section. 6. Proceed through each section until the curriculum is COMPLETE. Once complete, a green button stating “Completed” will be visible beneath the curriculum on your dashboard. You will also have the option to print a certificate of completion.
