Are you a registered parishioner? Please do not take for granted that you are registered in the parish just because you attend mass and/or had your sacraments here as a child. If we have no record of your parish membership, it could be quite embarrassing to us or to you or your
family, when someone wishes to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, or if you have been asked to act as a sponsor for baptism or confirmation. Please fill out a census form, located in the narthex, in the Parish office or online at www.stmarkboynton.com. Once you have filled out the form please mail or bring it to the Parish Office. To receive a letter of Sponsorship for Baptism or Confirmation from the Pastor, one has to be an active parishioner of this parish for at least three months, received the Sacraments of initiation, and (if married) be in a Catholic Church recognized marriage. The Parish of St. Mark defines an “active/participating parishioner as one who is registered and worshipping at this parish on a regular (“weekly”) basis; and who commits to a stewardship of time, talent and financial resources to help support the parish and the Church of the Palm Beach Diocese”. Vocation Chalice As you know the church is in great need of men who commit themselves to the vocation of the priesthood. We are often asked to pray for that intention so that men will heed the inner call to become a priest. Here at St. Mark Parish, we have the Vocation Chalice. The chalice remains in one household for a week and the family is asked to pray for Vocations. Many people are needed for this; as you know, there are 52 weeks in a year. Please consider this prayerful service, which is done in the privacy of your own home for just one week. Contact Joe Schenk for more information to sign up to have the Chalice in your home for a week: 561- 364-0312.
Caregivers & Bereavement Support Groups Many caregivers and bereaved have difficulty committing to a specific day and time for a weekly group meeting. Therefore, until further notice, there will not be a set meeting at St. Mark Parish.
Instead, Sally will be available to meet individually or as a small group when it is convenient for you. You choose the place, day and time. Remember, Sally is only a phone call away for support, assistance and encouragement. Sally Moore 561-215-8732
The St. Mark’s Council of Catholic Women meets the second Saturday of each month from September to May. Meetings are held from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon in the Madonna Room. Membership is open to all women of the parish, and new members are always welcome. For more information, call Marge LaViola at 561-329-4667 or Robbin Holman at 561-436-4251.
St. Mark Prayer Warrior Ministry More Prayer Warriors Needed!
St. Mark has had a Prayer Ministry for many years and it is thriving. We have well over 100 people who have committed to taking the time to pray for people who ask for our prayers. The way our Warriors pray is up to each person; it's between you and God. There is no list kept of petitions; I send the petitions out as soon as possible from the time I get an e-mail or other notification.
Please contact me if you need prayers. When I receive a petition your last name is not included in the emails that are sent to our Prayer Warriors. If you sign up to be a PW your information is kept confidential and is only on the master list that I keep. So, what is keeping you from becoming a part of this wonderful ministry? You pray every day, for sure, so why not have some intentions outside your circle to include in your daily prayers? Advent is upon us. We are in the season of awaiting the Lord. How about honoring His coming with a commitment to pray for someone who asks for prayers. I am eager to hear from some new people to add to our growing list. God bless you for your time and commitment.

St. Mark Bible Study Are you seeking an appreciation of the Bible and its relevance to your daily life? You are invited to come and join fellow parishioners starting on Tuesdays from 7PM to 8 PM in the St. Clare room of the St. Francis Center. No prior Bible Study experience is required. So if you are a beginner or a student of scripture you will be welcomed and hopefully edified. We plan to utilize a book authored by Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J. a frequent and popular host of EWTN Catholic television as guide for the sessions. A donation of $8.00 is suggested, but not required. Fr. Pacwa’s book will help whether you read the Bible frequently or rarely. Please call Vic Coppola 561- 736- 7812 if you have any questions.

FYI: The First Sunday of Advent – December 3, 2017
This weekend we begin a new Church Year. The Readings will be taken from the B Cycle for Sunday Readings and Weekday Readings will be taken from Year 2. During this time of expectation and excitement all of us are reminded that the Lord has promised that He will come again. May He find all of us eager at His coming. This weekend we ponder the Second Commandment: You shall not take the Lord your God in vain. In ancient times to know someone’s name gave one a certain power and prestige. Often times, the name suggested a hope or dream of what the person would be or become. Throughout Scripture we read about certain names, Emmanuel, ‘God-with-us’; Jesus, ‘He will save the people from their sins.’ Michael, “He who is like God.’ In Judaism, the most Sacred Name of God, Yahweh or Jehovah was so important that it was only pronounced once a year by the high priest on Yom Kippur, The Day of Atonement. In fact, we don’t even know the exact pronunciation of the Name, so sacred was its meaning and power. We do know that the most Sacred of God’s Names means I Am, Who I Am. In the Second Commandment we read that the Name of God should not be taken in vain. This word means unnecessarily, or as we might define it, it should not be taken in disrespect or for a purpose that does not give honor and praise to God. Often times we use the word, swearing, to acknowledge a violation of the Second Commandment. Swearing is basically calling on God to do something that is against His nature. The most obvious is the phrase calling upon God to condemn someone or something to the power of hell. God is the Author of Life. It is through our stubbornness and pride that sin and death came into the world. Another violation against the Second Commandment is the use of profanity. Profanity is language that is ‘base’ and ‘crass’. It is used to shock or scandalize another. There is an old story that is told about Harry Truman. It seems that during one interview, Harry referred to someone’s opinion as full of manure. A grande dame of the Daughters of the American Revolution complained to the President’s wife that the President should watch his language. Mrs. Truman supposedly reported that it took her forty years to calm Harry down to that! Other violations of the Second Commandment are taking false oaths, e.g. “I swear by my children….” or perjury, lying under oath. Often the Second Commandment is violated when someone is under duress, anger or frustration. In those moments, it is best if we can step back, get our thoughts together and ask the Lord to give us the patience to deal with the situation or person that has evoked our response. If all else fails, if you want to use someone’s name in vain, use your own! On to other matters, December 8, 2017 is the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It is the Patronal Feast Day of the United States and a holyday of obligation. Masses will be celebrated at the following times: 7:30 p.m. Vigil Mass (Dec. 7th) Masses on the Day: 8:00 a.m.; 12 Noon; 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Misa en espanol. The Parish Christmas Party is scheduled for next Sunday, December 10th. Ticket sales in Church end this weekend. Limited sales at the door will be taken at the Parish Center the day of the event. Brothers and Sisters while we have time, let us do good. ~ Fr. Dan
