Reading I
Wisdom 12: 13, 16-19
You give repentance for sins.
Reflection: This passage from the Book of
Wisdom reveals a caring God. Not a God
far away from the human condition.
Rather. This God is lenient and likely to
offer repentance. This God is slow to
anger and shows power in justice. Do I
meet this caring God on the good ground
of hope in my life?
Psalm 86
Lord, you are good and forgiving.
Reading II
Romans 8: 26-27
The Spirit intercedes with
inexpressible groanings.
Reflection: Last week, St. Paul said that
we join all of creation in groaning for what
PARISH MISSION STATEMENT: The very heart of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church is Jesus Christ present on the
altar. Our mission, born at that altar, is to be sent forth into our neighborhood in order to
build up the Kingdom of God. The labor of this effort must address in deed more than in
word the needs of our people.
is yet to come. Today’s passage explains how
the Spirit intercedes for us with inexpressible
groaning. The on-going desire of the Spirit is
to help us in our need. Do I ask the Holy
Spirit to help me in my prayers and needs?
Gospel
Matthew 13: 24-43
Let them grow together until harvest.
Reflection: In St. Matthew’s gospel, we have
more parables that take us into the fields to
reflect on the seed that has been sown. God
is patient, allowing the crops that bear fruit
and the weeds to grow side by side. At the
harvest, the fruits of our lives will be known.
Do I listen with ears of faith to the promises
of God’s life growing within?

Anima Christi
Soul of Christ, sanctify me.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, strengthen me.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Within your wounds, hide me.
Permit me not to be separated from you.
From the wicked enemy defend me.
At the hour of my death call me,
bid me come to your side, that with your
saints I may praise you forever and ever.

PASTOR’S CORNER
As disciples of Jesus, we care for the
seed of God’s Word growing within us.
Today after Mass, the Spiritual Life and
Worship Commission hosts Sunday
Conversation. This year’s survey will
help us examine how we practice our
faith in prayer and retreats.
Times and places for our renewal are
helpful. During summer, people move
outside to relax with friends. Spending
time with others on St. Matt’s Chats is a
virtual way of connecting. Spending
time with God deepens our devotion and
prayer. Meeting others in their needs
reveals our faith in action. Yesterday, the
St. Ann’s Novena began at her Shrine at
St. Nicholas Church and will go until
June 26. This week, two staff members
joined the Jesuit’s Colleagues Retreat;
a virtual retreat this year. An online
Bridges Information Session, hosted by
Pam Mason, is on Thursday, July 24 at
6:30 pm. The Bridges Program runs
from Sept. to May. All are welcome.
The Knights and Ladies of St. Peter
Claver host a “Sock Angel” drive. Bring
new socks through August to help people
served by Peter and Paul Community
Services and St. Patrick Center. We
await The Ville Block Party plans for
August 15th and what is needed.
As disciples of Jesus, we listen, reflect,
pray and act all throughout the summer
days ahead.

1) As a member of this faith community, how have I been nourished during the past year at
St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church or at other places?
____________________________________________________________________________________
2) Living with the presence of the COVID-19 virus has affected all aspects of our lives. Have I found
video links, TV support, praying with Scripture, or personal supports to nourish me in my worship and
devotions, as I lived out of my faith during these unusual days?
Never Sometimes Usually Always
3) Does a regular, small group conversation interest me as a way to support for my Spiritual
Development during these days?
Never Sometimes Usually Always
4) Is my Spiritual Development strengthened by devotional prayers (novena, revival, rosary, scripture
reading, adoration, prayer hours, spiritual conversation, etc.)?
Never Sometimes Usually Always
5) Is my Spiritual Development deepened by on-going education and information (Sunday Conversation,
a parish organization’s program, a deanery event, an archdiocesan workshop, a national group or by
networking with another organization)?
Never Sometimes Usually Always
6) For your Spiritual Development, is there a retreat offering, a type of devotional prayer, or an on-going
formation/ workshop that would be helpful for growing into our faith?
____________________________________________________________________________________
7) As a member of St. Matthew the Apostle Catholic Church, what are the areas of desire, hopes, needs;
areas for improvement and growth - especially concerning our liturgy, devotions, retreats and on-going
faith formation?
