The Catholic Church has five precepts that every Catholic is instructed to use as a baseline in their
relationship with Jesus Christ. The five Precepts of the Church are:
1. Catholics attend Mass on Sundays (or the vigil on Sat-
urday evenings) and Holy Day of obligation. 2. Catholics confess our sins at least once a year through
the Sacrament of Reconciliation. 3. Catholics receive our Creator in Holy Communion at
least once during the Easter Season. 4. Catholics observe the prescribed days of fasting and
abstinence. We fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Fri-day. We abstain from meat on the Fridays of Lent and do some form of penance each Friday of the year.
5. Catholics provide for the material needs of the Church, each according to his/her ability.
