MASS INTENTIONS

Altar & Rosary Society Christmas Luncheon & Fundraiser Invitations and drawing tickets were sent to the registered families for the upcoming Altar and Rosary Society Christmas luncheon. The luncheon is scheduled for December 4th at Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo.

Need for Food A er Thanksgiving

Many agencies have cared for the needy leading up to Thanksgiving. Now there will be a lull in support. If you have food-stuffs left over that you won’t use, then drop these non-perishable items in the hutch at the entrance of the church. We will get the food to the Five Cities’ Chris-tian Women’s food distribution center. If you are inter-ested in donating your time to the effort (1 or 2 after-noons per month), please call the rectory.

Events Outside the Parish

1. The Conventual Franciscans of Our Lady of Consolation Province (headquartered in Indiana) staffed the parish from about the 1930s to about the 1970s. Perhaps you have old pic-tures or other items lying around the house that depict a friar or friars working in the parish. The Province Archives of the Province of Our Lady of Consolation and the former Custody of Our Lady of Guadalupe would love to have them. The Ar-chives Office of the Province would be willing to take such items. A note attached to the items explaining dates, people involved, etc. would be greatly appreciated. They can be sent to: Province Archives, 101 St. Anthony Drive, Mt. St. Francis, IN 47146 or emailed to [email protected].

2. The Newman Center at Cal Poly is operational with the start of school. The center is meant to help Catholic students at local colleges to have a place to live and express their faith. Masses are celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Chapel at the Newman Center (Sunday at 6:00 p.m. and Monday through Thursday at 11:10 a.m.). Various ministries are offered at Newman; details are at (www.slonewman.org). The center is located at 1472 Foothill Boulevard, San Luis Obispo; the of-fice is open weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (543-4105).

Father Jacob is Now Online Father Jacob has an email account set to communicate with the parishioners. It is [email protected]. ______________________

Protecting Our Children--Safe Environment

Given the recent public outcry over abuse of children in the Catholic Church, a FIRM policy is needed. The parish has followed the direc ves of the diocese for years. On Wednesday from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., only authorized individ-uals and personnel who have been cleared by the diocese may be in the parish hall (parents or guardians may bring or pick up the children in the hall). NOBODY ELSE will be per-mi ed ANYWHERE in the hall. The NOBODY includes mem-bers of the Knights of Columbus, the Altar and Rosary Soci-ety and Martha’s Ministry and anyone else. Join us in pro-tec ng the children.

Respect for the Lifestyle of the Friars

We remind parishioners that the Friars have a schedule of prayer and meals that needs to be respected. The commu-nal prayer takes place at 11:45 a.m. and at 4:45 p.m. It is truly annoying to have the telephone or doorbell ringing at these mes. In addi on, the communal meal is enjoyed at noon. This is community me for the Friars. Please be more careful to observe office hours Monday through Fri-day (9:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.).

Join the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA)

The CDA was formed over 100 years ago and is one of the largest and oldest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. We donate to charities, administer schol-arship programs and strive "to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness." Meetings for Court #1162 take place every second Saturday of the month at Nativity of Our Lady Parish Hall in San Luis Obispo. The next meeting will take place on Saturday, December 8th at 10:00 a.m. Our Guest speaker will be Seminarian Abraham Barrera from Cambria. Luncheon will follow. New members always welcome. For more information, please call Rose at (805) 544-3358.

Coffee and Donuts

Coffee and donuts will be available Sunday morning in the hall. Please join your fellow parishioners after the Sunday morning Masses and introduce yourself to someone you don’t know.

Contribution Envelope Boxes

All of the contribution envelope boxes have been placed in the rear of the church. Those who use these or who have electronic deductions will find boxes available. You will need the boxes now. Please take your box home. If you would like to receive a box of contribution enve-lopes, complete a registration form and indicate your wishes. If registered already, just call the office.

Our New Bishop We have a new Bishop, Daniel Garcia. He is coming from the Diocese of Aus n, Texas. He will be installed as the Bishop of Monterey on January 29, 2019. Please pray for him.

All are invited to attend and participate. There are no meetings June, July, August & December. Rosary for Priests The Rosary for Priests is prayed on Thursday afternoons from 3:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. in the family room in rear of church (parking lot side). Praying for Priests: A Mission for the New Evangelization "As you begin to pray the holy Rosary for priests, ask Mary to pray with you. Assume the posture of a child who needs to be led in prayer. We do not know how to pray but, as the Word of God teaches, the Holy Spirit prays within us."

THE PROMISE OF JUSTICE

We are in fairly good company when we ask God for jus ce. O en enough we hear and agree with the lament of the people of Israel asking God why the wicked pros-per. However, when we call out for jus ce, we usually want someone to get his or her comeuppance. God’s jus-

ce is something other than this, of course. God’s jus ce comprises a wonderful rightness between God and hu-mankind.

Today, Jeremiah looks ahead to a me when a just one will sprout from the shorn-off stump of Jesse of the house and family of David. Life was not fair in Jeremiah’s

me. Israel’s kings held the promise of God’s fidelity, but it was difficult to see how God’s promise could be realized through them.

Nevertheless, Jeremiah li s his voice and announces that the Promised One will come. Luke’s Gospel echoes that announcement, and Paul is filled with sturdy encour-agement. And so Advent begins with a promise. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
