The Magi studied the stars for clues to life and the future. But what made them do more than study and wonder what that new star was doing in the heavens? What prompted them into action that led them to visit the newborn Christ Child? Something called to them. What calls to us this fresh new time of 2011? What new thing might we do this year? What old thing might we give up doing? I suppose that is the stuff of New Year’s resolutions. We may think health & fitness: This year I will stick to my diet and exercise more! Or maybe personal growth: This year I will read that book that has been sitting on my shelf all year. Or maybe on the home front: At home, this year I will get organized. How about in our faith life? What new thing does God call us to this year? Perhaps it will be “action”: get to church more. Perhaps it will be “study”: read the Bible for 15 minutes every day, go to Bible study, or read a book on St. Paul because I wonder what made that man do so much. Or maybe it will be spirituality: stop wondering about how to pray better and join a prayer circle - or start one! Mission: maybe this year I will pick one way to help others so that I might share what God has given me. Our possibilities are endless. Our inspiration to grow in our faith and faithful living is always present, but sometimes our calls from God get drowned out with all the noise in our lives. This year, let us listen more carefully and then act on at least one of the new things that might deepen our faith, enrich our prayer life, broaden our understanding of scripture… the possibilities are endless. Let’s enlist a friend to share this adventure with us. It is more fun and we can hold each other accountable. And who knows, this may bring more joy into our lives. May God help each of us discover a more joyful corner of our hearts this year and share that joy with another. Joyfully, The Good News

My dear friends, Thoughts of January always prompt me to ask myself, “What ‘new’ thing might I do this year?”. The Magi studied the stars for clues to life and the future. But what made them do more than

study and wonder what that new star was doing in the heavens? January 30 The Right Rev. Bishop Gladstone B. Adams will make his triennial visit to St. Paul’s. Our wor-ship will take place at the usual 8 and 9:30 am. We will plan coffee hour between services as well as following the 9:30 service. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear about what is going on around the Episcopal Church and the Diocese of Central New York from our own Bishop Skip. I hope everyone is able to come and offer our special St. Paul’s hospitality to our Bishop.

Prepar ing for Worship Prepar ing for Worship Prepar ing for Worship Prepar ing for Worship ———— Quiet ly Quiet ly Quiet ly Quiet ly Some folks like to prepare for worship in a time or quiet prayer before the service. Others like to take that opportunity to connect with friends. While both are worthwhile endeavors, they don’t always seem to co-exist easily. So, we would like to set aside the church as a sanctuary of relative quiet before each service, to allow folks a peaceful place to pray. If you’d like to chat with your friends before worship , please either whisper or use other spaces in the building. Thank You!

OUTREACH NEWS Congratulations St Paul’s! Our Holiday Bazaar Holiday Bazaar Holiday Bazaar Holiday Bazaar earned over $1700.00 this year. Sincere thanks to the many folks who gave their time and energy to make this event such a success. We wish to give special thanks to Roberta Kincaid for organizing, directing the craft making and staging the entire bazaar, Libby Mills who lent her extraordinary talents to make many of the beautiful items we sold, Julie Reals for stepping forward to organize and manage the luncheon, and Darryl Tarbell and Joanne Furtado for organizing the Basket Raffle. Winners of the raffle were Jim Schofield, Tammy Barahmeh, Judy Montgomery, Joanne Furtado, Mr. Talbot, Patricia Fox, and Tania Mousaw. The holiday season was a busy one for St Paul’s. We sponsored a drive to support the Syracuse Rescue MissionRescue MissionRescue MissionRescue Mission which helped provide every resident in their five programs with a “stocking” filled with new personal hygiene products. Through the “Dove Tree” “Dove Tree” “Dove Tree” “Dove Tree” project we provided presents for several chil-dren and families in Madison County. This is a very popular tradition as our parishioners love to play Santa! I don’t want to leave out the terrific support of our local Food Pantry Food Pantry Food Pantry Food Pantry with our 10 lbs of food per family donation drive in October in conjunction with the nationwide Crop Walk against hunger. The most important part of Outreach at St Paul’s was not the material items our parishioners so generously gave to help those in need, but rather the generous giving of their time generous giving of their time generous giving of their time generous giving of their time in so many community programs and projects. Many of our folks volunteer hours at the local Food Pantry, Habitat for Humanity, Chittenango School, Literacy volunteers, the Public Library, Rescue Mission, Salvation Army…….the list goes on and on. This is the true meaning of Outreach – a giving spirit and loving heart.

His Unfailing Presence His Unfailing Presence His Unfailing Presence His Unfailing Presence Another year I enter Its history unknown; Oh, how my feet would tremble To tread its paths alone! But I have heard a whisper, I know I shall be blest; "My presence shall go with thee, And I will give thee rest." What will the New Year bring me? I may not, must not know; Will it be love and rapture, Or loneliness and woe? Hush! Hush! I hear His whisper; I surely shall be blest; "My presence shall go with thee, And I will give thee rest."

The New Year The New Year The New Year The New Year Dear Lord, as this new year is born I give it to Thy hand, Content to walk by faith what paths I cannot understand. Whatever coming days may bring Of bitter loss, or gain, Or every crown of happiness; Should sorrow come, or pain, Or, Lord, if all unknown to me Thine angel hovers near To bear me to that farther shore Before another year, It matters not—my hand in Thine, Thy light upon my face, Thy boundless strength when I am weak, Thy love and saving grace! I only ask, loose not my hand, Grip fast my soul, and be My guiding light upon the path Till, blind no more, I see!

GOD LAUGHS TOO !GOD LAUGHS TOO !GOD LAUGHS TOO !GOD LAUGHS TOO !

Children in Church Children in Church Children in Church Children in Church A little boy was in a relative's wedding. As he was coming down the aisle, he would take two steps, stop, and turn to the crowd. While facing the crowd, he would put his hands up like claws and roar. So it went, step, step, ROAR, step, step, ROAR, all the way down the aisle. As you can imagine, the crowd was near tears from laughing so hard by the time he reached the pulpit. When asked what he was doing, the child smiled and said, "I was being the Ring Bear." ************** The preacher was wired for sound with a lapel mike, and as he preached, he moved briskly about the platform, jerking the mike cord as he went. Then he moved to one side, getting wound up in the cord and nearly tripping before jerking it again. After several circles and jerks, a little girl in the third pew leaned toward her mother and whispered, "If he gets loose, will he hurt us?" *************** Six-year old Angie and her four-year old brother, Joel , were sitting together in church. Joel giggled, sang and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had had enough.. "You're not supposed to talk out loud in church." "Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.

Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, "See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers." ****************** A ten-year old, under the tutelage of her grandmother, was becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible. Then one day she floored her grandmother by asking, "Which Virgin was the mother of Jesus ? The Virgin Mary or the King James Virgin ?" **************** A Sunday school class was studying the Ten Commandments. They were ready to discuss the last one. The teacher asked if anyone could tell her what it was. Susie raised her hand, stood tall, and quoted, "Thou shall not take the covers off the neighbor's wife." ***************** One Sunday a young child was "acting up" during the morning worship hour. The parents did their best to maintain some sense of order in the pew but were losing the battle. Finally, the father picked the little fellow up and walked sternly up the aisle on his way out. Just before reaching the safety of the foyer, the little one called loudly to the congregation, "Pray for me! Pray for me!"
