to a relaxing evening of Vincentian stories, experiences & refreshments

Presentation by Jane Knuth, the Author of Thrift Store Saints

Meeting Jesus 25¢ at a time Wednesday, November 7 at 7:00 PM

St. Pius X Church

A few years back, our St. Pius X Conference members purchased some Thrift Store Saints books to read a chapter every couple of weeks and then discuss briefly at our meetings. While our conference provides assistance to those in need in a different fashion, the experiences that were related in her book from the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift store in Kalamazoo, MI were very similar to ours and as well as inspiring.

All are welcome to attend!

St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry for the Hispanic Ministry

“… so that they may all be one, as you, Father, are in me and I in you.” John 17:21

Father George has asked that we all do more to connect the Hispanic Ministry to the rest of St. Pius X, so that we become one congregation, not two communities that happen to share the same building. Toward that goal, the St. Vincent de Paul Society has extended the reach of our Food Pantry to the Hispanic Ministry Mass on Saturday evenings. The kickoff event occurred on July 21 after the 7 pm Mass. 60 bags of non-perishable food, and about the same number of bags of fresh fruit and vegetables were distributed to about 30 families. The Vincent de Paul Society bought the non-perishable food from the Northern Illinois Food Bank. Deacon Armando arranged for the fresh food. On the first night food was given to anyone there who asked. To participate in future distributions, people were asked to register in advance. The subsequent food distributions were held on August 18, September 17, and October 20 after the 7 pm Mass. Fifteen families usually receive both non-perishable and fresh food. We are planning to repeat these events on the third Saturday of each month but may vary due to the calendar. As word spreads, and more people register, we expect the number served to increase. You can support this new ministry by making donations to St. Vincent de Paul, or by helping us prepare the bags of groceries on the afternoon of the third Saturdays or even helping distributing the bags after the Hispanic Mass. For more information, please contact our Conference President, Wally Newman at 630-815-9434 or email us at [email protected]

The V.I.P. Senior Thanksgiving Luncheon will be on Tuesday, November 13. Please be in church at 11:30 am. Please RSVP by Monday, November 12, by calling Carolyn Holst at 630-620-1035.

A sincere Thank You to my dear friends who hosted a wonderful and delicious evening, and to Fr. George for his kind words. What a great send-off. And Thank You to all who wished me good luck and God’s blessings as I start a new life journey. The love and support of all my parish family was overwhelming and very much appreciated. I pray the Lord will continue to bless this caring community. Jean Plewa

S . P X P S In The News!

The teachers and staff of St. Pius X Parish School dressed “pretty in pink” in honor of the month of October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Our first and eighth grade students “buddy” up during the school year to attend weekly Mass together and make special holiday projects. This past week the “buddies” got together to make caramel apples.

On Friday, October 26, 2018 all students in preschool through eighth grade participated in our annual Run-A-Thon. The theme for this year was “Run On The Wild Side.” Students gathered pledges from family and friends and came together to run their laps for our school. Thank you to all of our sponsors and families for their generosity! Second grade students got a special visit from some reptiles that coincided with their reading curriculum. The bearded dragons were a big hit! Upcoming Events Trivia Night on November 17, 2018! Check the bulletin or school website for registration info.
