St. Pius X Youth Ministry

New Evangelization Ministry

Registration for Bishop Barron’s Pivotal Players at St. Pius X Bishop Robert Barron is on a new journey to unlock the truth behind the Catholic Church's most influential people. CATHOLICISM: The Pivotal Players is a multi-part study program that illumines a handful of saints, artists, mystics, and scholars who not only shaped the life of the Church but changed the course of civilization. These Pivotal Players are St. Francis of Assisi, St. Thomas Aquinas, St. Catherine of Siena, Bl. John Henry Newman, G.K. Chesterton, and Michelangelo.

The Pivotal Players is a 13 week study which involves home preparation, small group discussion, and video presentations. Registration will be held after Masses this weekend. The cost for the study is $30. The study will begin the week of February 5. For questions or more info contact Barb Harazin 630-629-7956 or [email protected]

Looking for Small Group Leaders The St. Pius X Youth Ministry is looking for adult leaders. Whether you are a college student or a grandparent (we already have multiples of both), if you love God and have a heart for students, we want you on the team! We are specifically looking for adults who would be interested in leading small group discussions. Small groups are split by gender and grade (6th, 7th, and 8th) and range between 6-10 students in size. Each small group has two adult leaders. Discussions are based around a pre-determined book or video. Small group discussions happen during youth group nights on Mondays from 6:30-8 pm. If you would like to become a small group leader or observe a youth group night and test the water, please contact Mark Restaino at [email protected]. 8th Grade Confirmation Student and Sponsor Meeting is on Wednesday, January 25 from 7-8 pm in the Social Center/Gym. At this meeting, we'll go over the sponsorship role and students and sponsors will have time to discuss their faith with one another. If a student's sponsor is unable to attend, a parent may come in their place; yet we still ask that the student and sponsor meet or talk together at a time convenient for them with guidelines that we'll both hand out at the event and email out. Three Dog Youth Group Night On Monday, January 30, from 6:30-8 pm, the youth group will be making dog toys for DuPage Animal Control in the Social Center/gym at St. Pius X. There will also be a hot chocolate bar! Invite friends because it's going to be pawesome!

Nelson Medina, OP

DEANERY AND DIOCESAN NEWS

www.stpiuslombard.org PAGE 10

2017 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal

The 2017 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal is underway! It begins with a mailing that many of our parishioners have received or will soon receive. This is a mailing from Bishop Conlon asking for a pledge to the 2017 Catholic Ministries Annual Appeal.

The Appeal not only funds many of the operations of the Diocese, it funds services that are of great help to the ministries here in our parish.

This year, the theme of the Appeal is “Held in God’s Hands.” What a wonderful thought! When we accept that God knows what we need and will provide for our tomorrows, we are able to be good stewards of the gifts He has entrusted to us.

One way that we can be good stewards, is by giving back to God the gifts He shared with us. We can support our parish, our diocese and the Church throughout the world with gifts of time, talent and treasure. The gifts we give enable ministries, education, and services that touch thousands of lives.

Our parish goal is $67,203. With your financial support, we can exceed this goal. When we exceed our goal in paid pledges, we will receive 70% of the amount over goal for use in our parish.

Please answer Bishop Conlon’s request and make a generous pledge. All pledges can be paid in ten (10) installments. Thank you in advance for your support.

This weekend is the Collection for the Church in Latin America! Please prayerfully consider supporting this collection, which strengthens the faith of our brothers and sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean. Your support is bringing the faith to those in remote villages who would otherwise not have access to church programs and outreach. Share your faith! Support the second collection. To learn more about the collection, please visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.

A Holy Hour for Life will be held on Sunday evening from 8:00 – 9:00 pm. Please send an email indicating when you will attend to [email protected], or join us at anytime during the vigil hours.

St. Joseph Church is located at 4801 Main Street, Downers Grove, IL.
