A BIG “THANK YOU” from Kairos Menard #17 Retreat

On behalf of the Kairos Team, inmates of Menard, and correction officers, I want to thank all of you who provided cookies for Kairos Menard #17. It was a retreat of so many blessings. Your cookies were a special blessing. With about 10,000 cookies, we tell the inmates that they represent God’s boundless love. You can never get enough of them!! Some of you got creative (within the guidelines!) and offered some new recipes. Naturally, the chocolate chips are a big favorite. However, we also love the snicker doodles, the oatmeal, and peanut butter cookies. There were also gooey butter cookies, and lemon cookies. All in all, it was a great cookie feast!!! - and a great retreat. Thanks. You were an instrument of God’s grace.

Fr. Tom Santen

St. Simon Organizations’ Spiritual Component November 2019

During the month of November, we remember those who have gone before us, most especially the Saints, or saints – those canonized and those who were just great people that we once knew on earth. “a great multitude, which no one could count, from every nation, race, people, and tongue” (Rev 7:9). Fr. Terrance Klein, SJ once wrote in America Magazine about the Church as a garden with holiness as its harvest. “The wholeness and loving energy of the saints reveal the very nature of God, but they also display a truth about us, about the nature of the Church. The Church is a garden. It exists “to harvest” men and women of holiness,” states Klein.

See what love the Father has bestowed on us that we may be called the children of God.

Yet so we are. The reason the world does not know us

is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now;

what we shall be has not yet been revealed. We do know that when it is revealed we shall be like him,

for we shall see him as he is. Everyone who has this hope based on him makes himself pure, as he is pure. 1John 3:1-3

As we honor the long list of canonized Saints, let us look beyond that list to search for holiness among ourselves. When we spot holiness in one another, we see that despite the flaws and sins of the Church, it truly is a rich harvest for God. Through God’s grace men and women are growing in holiness in her. 1. Have you ever had someone reveal acts of kindness

they witnessed by someone you knew who had died?

2. What evidence of holiness have you witnessed in others in the Church?

Let us pray: Lord, as the saints in Heaven adore You for eternity, I beg for their intercession. Saints of God, please come to my aide. Pray for me and bring to me the grace I need to live a holy life in imitation of you. All saints of God, pray for us. Amen

Fr. Tom’s Birthday / Retirement Celebration Today!

“Blessed by God for 75 years”

All are welcome! Please join us after the 11am Mass for refreshments, fellowship, and fun in the Lower Church Hall.

Thirty-second Sunday in Ordinary Time In today’s Gospel we find that God is a God of the living, and this is indeed the core of our hope. Jesus has risen and is with us, therefore, at no time should we be without hope for the future. When you give the furniture, household items and clothing you no longer use to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, you give hope to your neighbors who have nothing.

Our Fourth Annual Holiday Shopping Campaign is underway and lasts until January 1. Last year our school and parish families purchased $77,000 in gift cards over the holiday season which earned our school $2,700.

Every family who purchases at least $200 in gift cards between October 28 and January 1 will be entered in a raffle to win one of TWO, $50 Visa gift cards! Earn another raffle ticket for every additional $200 you spend! Winners will be announced in the January 10th bulletin.

Want to earn a bonus entry in the raffle? Every family who meets the $200 minimum sales amount AND places an online scrip order with PrestoPay or credit card at least once between Oct. 28 and Jan. 1 will earn a bonus entry in the raffle!

Thank you for your continued support of our school!

CARDS REMAINING

Last Wednesday, Jim Reznicek’s

name was picked and he took Card

# 49.

It was the Six of Diamonds.

Jim still won $300.00.

The St. Simon Youth Ministry would like to invite you to pray about volunteering to be a Sleep House host family for our Luke 18 retreat January 10-12, 2020. We need a total of 20-22 families to open their homes to approximately 5-7 teens Friday and Saturday nights and provide transportation to and from St. Simon. We will send the teen retreatants with a High School leader, snacks, and soda. You can interact with the teens as much or as little as you would like. The teens are told to pack a sleeping bag, so all they need is space on the floor or couch (unfinished basements are not ideal). Are you thinking about being a Luke 18 Sleep House? Then anyone 18+ and out of high school needs to complete the Protecting God's Children requirements. There also must be 2 adults present to be a Sleep House host. We appreciate your continued prayers and support. If you are able to volunteer please let me know ASAP. Thank you, Susie Pollard [email protected]

LUKE 18 RETREAT The St. Simon Youth Ministry will be offering our

19th LUKE 18 Retreat for the 7th & 8th Graders of the parish January 10-12, 2020. The LUKE 18 retreat weekend is a wonderful opportunity to experience God’s love in new and exciting ways through games, skits, songs, sharing, and a series of talks given by area high school and college students. By encouraging the 7th & 8th graders (the Lukers) to have fun and break down their “walls”, the weekend helps them see that God and His love are present in relationships at home with their family, and at school with their peers, and it challenges them to share that love with others.

The LUKE 18 is organized and coordinated by the Youth Minister and Core Members, and our YATLS (Young Adult Team Leaders) who are college age or older. Once the weekend begins, a team of young adults lead the group through the various activities with the help of high school students who not only present the talks, but also lead the small group discussions. With “youth ministering to youth”, the Lukers are able to relate more easily to the experience of living a Christian life at home and school. We will be visiting with the 7th grade PSR classes and the day school 7th and 8th grader classes on Monday, November 11 to explain what the retreat is about. At the end of our visit we will give the 7th and 8th graders the registration forms for this retreat, which includes more information.

Registration for the Luke 18 retreat is Sunday, November 17, 2019 after the 9:00 and 11:00 Masses outside the Simon Room. We will collect ALL registration forms on Sunday after the 9:00 and 11:00 am Masses, NO FORMS are to be turned in through school. We will try to have a split of 75% 8th graders and 25% 7th graders ratio. There is limited number of spaces available, so registration form must be turned in on Registration Sunday. Any question , call Susie Pollard (314-842-3848 ext. 128 or 314-640-0680).

Women of St. Simon join us for :

St. Simon the Apostle Catholic Church Lower Church Hall

Sunday, December 8, 2019, 6:00—8:30 pm

Who is invited?

The event is offered to ladies high-school age and older. You do not need to be a member of St. Simon the Apostle to attend. Take the opportunity to invite friends or family! Because of limited seating, reservations are required.

What is this event? Advent by Candlelight is a special evening for

women to set aside the hustle and bustle of holiday preparations and focus their minds and hearts on the birth of Christ. This evening includes uplifting Scripture readings, music by the Notre Dame High School Choir, and reflections from our speaker, St. Simon’s very own, Jennifer Meehan. This is a free event; however, a goodwill offering at the end of the evening will be accepted.

How does it work? In an atmosphere lit only by candlelight, as a

hostess, you set a banquet table (8 seats, including your seat). You may do this on your own or share the responsibility with a friend. You, as the hostess, may invite ladies to sit at your table, or allow the seats to be filled via the sign-up process. No requirement to be a hostess, you can also just sign to be included in a table with open spaces. You may bring fancy dinnerware, wine glasses, silverware, etc. or keep it simple. Your guests, then bring part of a meal of their choice (appetizers, entrée, and/or dessert) for those at your table.
