Catholic Communica ons Campaign This WKD Pope Francis has said “It is important to remember that the Church is present in the world of communications, in all its forms, most of all to lead people to an encounter with the Lord Jesus. Only an encounter with Jesus can transform human hearts and human history.” Each year the Archdiocese of St. Louis leads people to this encounter with the Lord through effective communications by promoting the faith through radio advertisements, billboards, and digital advertising, along with supporting parishes, schools and ministries. Through your generosity in the past, the St. Charles Lwanga Center is able to communicate Christ’s messages through its newsletter about Black Ministry. Additionally, your generosity has allowed Ste. Genevieve Church in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri to spread the truth of the gospel to the homebound. We are very grateful for your donations in the past, which have enabled the archdiocese to spread the Truth of the Gospel. The STL Archdiocese ask you to prayerfully consider helping to spread the Truth in one of three ways. First, follow the Archdiocese of St. Louis, the St. Louis Review AND Archbishop Robert Carlson on Facebook and Twitter. Second, provide the archdiocese with your personal email address so that we may connect with parishioners allowing all participants to spread the Truth of the Gospel. Finally, donate to our annual Catholic Communication Campaign. You can find more information about our campaign by a post card in the lobby, or at www.archstl.org/ccc. Thank YOU for supporting Catholic Communications Sunday - we need your help in spreading Christ’s message. Join us. Donate now. Help Spread The Truth of the Gospel.

Blood Drive May 27 In the recent past, and continuing at the present, a number of our parishioners who have been battling cancer have found themselves in need of transfusions of blood, either in order to stabilize their blood counts or in conjunction with extensive surgeries. In addition to our on-going prayers, and as a way of standing in solidarity with our fellow parishioners, St. Simon Parish will be hosting an American Red Cross Blood Drive here in our lower church hall on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 9:00am until 1:00pm. There is a sign-up sheet available in the church lobby after all the Masses this weekend and next weekend. Thank-you.

Parish Stewardship of Treasure :

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Gift of the Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit is called the Advocate, the Paraclete, and the Consoler in Scripture. He is the gift of the Father whom we received at Baptism and then more fully in Confirmation. The Holy Spirit is our defender, the one who stands by us in the midst of the attacks of Satan (the accuser). Constantly reminding us of what Jesus has taught us and guiding us into prayer, the Spirit leads us just as He led Jesus. “The Holy Spirit, whom Christ the head pours out on his members, builds, animates, and sanctifies the Church” (CCC 747). Praise God for the gift of the Holy Spirit, our anointing, our dove, our fire. archstl.org/dynamic

May 21, 2017-6th Sunday of Easter “For it is better to suffer for doing good, if that be God’s will, than for doing evil.” 1 PETER 3:17 The old line says “if you want to make God laugh, tell him your plans.” Many of us are diligent in our planning, making sure things are progressing smoothly, then disaster strikes, we don’t get the result that was intended. An unforeseen problem arises. Many times we may respond negatively. Why me? I did everything right! Here’s the thing – God has a different and better plan in store for you.

Stewardship is Not Just for Adults. Even children have wonderful gifts to give. It is also extremely important that young people learn to realize that they are greatly blessed by God and that God, in turn, asks them to share their blessings. We want to give our children the opportunity to share of these gifts. Whether it be through something they do for their parents, volunteering through their school or parish, or even giving of a small monetary gift, these are some of the ways that we teach our children that giving to God is important. Starting last weekend we have children’s envelopes available in the lobby. We will be giving the kids an opportunity to bring their envelope forward when the collection is presented to Father. Look in the children’s section of the bulletin to see what the children have accomplished each week. We will be taking their collection dollars and putting them towards a gift to the parish from them. They will have an opportunity to vote on what they would like their gifts to go towards. Your Stewardship Council

About 33 Days to Morning Glory 33 Days to Morning Glory is an extraordinary 33-day journey to Marian Consecration by Fr. Michael Gaitley. It can be done simply by reading 2 pages a day of the book daily and meeting weekly for DVD teaching by Fr. Gaitley and group discussion. The book takes you to the heart of Jesus through Mary by learning about four spiritual giants: St. Louis de Montfort, St. Maximilian Kolbe, Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Pope St. John Paul II. Fr. Gaitley masterfully summarizes the teachings of these 4 saints, making it easy to grasp and simple enough to put into practice. He weaves their thought into a user-friendly, do-it-yourself retreat that will bless the busiest of people. We are considering both daytime and evening sessions beginning Tuesday, June 13th that run a total of 1½ hours one day a week for 5 weeks. The daytime session will run from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. in the lower church hall. The evening session time will depend on the level of interest. Please contact Deacon Dave at 314-842-3848 (120) or Beverly Simmerman at 314-791-2324 to register or for more information.

Taizé – Pilgrimage of Trust Is Here Beginning last September 2016, brothers of the Taizé Community (www.taize.fr), in collaboration with churches of various denominations, have facilitated a series of “pilgrimage of trust” prayer services in the St. Louis area (including St. Simon last October). At a time when fear and violence seem to be gaining the upper hand, the

purpose of the pilgrimage (www.taize.fr/stlouis) is to create a space where people of different backgrounds can come together for prayer and conversation on ways of building trust in our daily lives. This yearlong pilgrimage of trust will culminate in a gathering to be held over Memorial Day weekend, May 26-29, 2017. The invitation to come to St. Louis for this ecumenical pilgrimage was first extended to the Taizé community by Archbishop Carlson in the wake of the Ferguson unrest. Other church leaders and communities were contacted and have given their full support, hosting many evenings of prayer in their churches. For the Memorial Day weekend in 2017, hundreds of young adults will come from throughout the Midwest and beyond. Participants will be offered hospitality by local families. The weekend will involve times of prayer, Bible reflections, workshops on various themes related to trust, justice and reconciliation, and a citywide prayer walk to express the desire to work together for a more human society. Many of the events will be held at Saint Louis University, but workshops will involve visits to other places of suffering and hope in the St. Louis metropolitan area. One of the important aspects of this weekend is offering accommodations to participants from outside the St. Louis area. They will essentially be young adults between 18 and 35 years old, who will stay for three nights in very simple conditions. Our experience has always been that this hospitality in people’s homes is one of the high-points of the pilgrimage. Far beyond just the need to offer shelter, it creates bonds of friendship, and also helps to involve parishes and congregations in the pilgrimage, even those who do not directly participate in the events at SLU. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HOSTING A YOUNG ADULT FOR THIS EVENT, PLEASE CONTACT DEACON DAVE IN THE PARISH OFFICE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
