Pastor’s Column

Today we celebrate the feast of the Holy Family. Jesus, Mary, and Joseph

are the members of the family, a family that can reflect many families in

our society today. It is what we would call a blended family. Jesus being

God and the biological son of Mary, Joseph being the spouse of Mary and

the foster father of Jesus. We see in this family unit a loving and caring

family. Joseph, a man of faith caring and loving Mary to keep her from the

scorn of the religious powers by taking her into his home. Joseph is

protecting Jesus from Herod by relocating the family to Egypt.

We see in the Holy Family all the elements of family life for us to model our

own families. Yes, faith as the keystone. Trust in God is the key for both

Mary and Joseph as well as for Jesus. Mary and Joseph both had to believe

that God would guide them on their life’s journey. Jesus himself knew he

had to redeem the human race and had to trust in the guidance of God the

Father.

We must learn to trust in God as Mary and Joseph did this which comes

from prayer and meditation on the scriptures. As children we are to obey

our parents like Jesus did and pray to God and trust in Him.

So as we celebrate this feast and start the New Year let us resolve to form a

prayer life with God and trust in His guidance in our life.

God Bless, Fr. Rich
