Stewardship Reflection Today s First Reading from the First Book of Kings, as well as the Gospel passage from Mark, both center on the actions of two seemingly poor and helpless widows who show themselves to be faith-filled and generous stewards. In the eyes of the world, particularly in biblical times when there was no life insurance or Social Security, these widows were weak and dependent on others to take care of them. They each found themselves in desperate situations — one in the midst of famine with a child for which to care, and the other clearly impoverished. Yet, each demonstrated strength and generosity that distinguished them from those around them. From where did this strength come? It came from knowing who they are, and Whose they are. These women must have known their security would not come from a good life insurance policy or connections to someone with a hidden storehouse of flour. No, their security came from knowing they were daughters of the Most High God and from putting their faith in Him. They had no need to panic in the midst of natural disaster or cling desperately to their menial resources. Their faith in God set them free to trust Him when all seemed hopeless. Their faith kept them detached from material possessions. Their faith allowed them to be brave and generous, to think of others despite their own trials. These women saw themselves as stewards, not owners, of the resources God gave them, regardless of how much or how little they had. And acting as stewards made them gracious, generous and mighty indeed. St. Joseph, Our Spiritual Father Documentary Joseph of Nazareth stands out in his role as protector of families in the difficulties of life and Patron of the universal Church. Now, in this Year of St. Joseph, the Church is seeking to deepen its understanding of the Guardian of Jesus and of the Holy Family. The Knights of Columbus, with screenwriter/director David Naglieri (Emmy Award-winning filmmaker), have produced this must-see Documentary. Airing TODAY Sunday, November 7, at 12:00 p.m. on WXOW 19 ABC. To view the trailer and see further broadcast times, visit Kofc.org/stjoseph. Baptism Today at the 4:30 p.m. Mass we celebrate the baptism of Sawyer Jackson Stark, son of Thomas and Ashley Stark. Congratulations to Sawyer and his family on this special day. Say No To Taxpayer Funding of Abortion The Hyde Amendment and similar laws have protected taxpayers from funding elective abortion for 45 years. Now, powerful members of Congress, with the support of the Biden Administration, want to take away these laws that both Democrats and Republicans have supported for nearly half a century. Visit www.NoTaxpayerAbortion.com and sign the petition.

Inspiration for the Week It all really boils down to a matter of the heart, and actions do speak louder than words. We cannot hide from the truth. A problem with religion is that it is possible for someone to make everything appear to be right when actually it is not. We can say all of the right prayers, perform all of the proscribed rituals, claim that we adhere to orthodox doctrines and still lead a distorted, empty and sometimes pitiful life. Only actions springing from true and deep sacrifice demonstrate true integrity. Without sacrifice, even the noblest looking actions can amount to nothing. It is no wonder, then, that the widow who contributed from her poverty received great admiration from Jesus. While it may not always appear to be the case, God has a special care and regard for those who depend upon him in times of trouble and want. Only the person who is truly poor is the only one who can see this. Because of a lack of trust, the one who has much is afraid to take a risk and sees only what they possess as their only security.©Lpi
