Dear Lord

I pray that You give me the wisdom to guide me on this faith journey of

stewardship.

Help me to understand that everything I have is a gift from You.

Open my heart and my mind so that I may use these Marvelous

gifts to give back to You here on Earth.

I pray Lord that You welcome me into Your kingdom at the end of my life

and that You are pleased with what I have done with all Your gifts.

Amen.

Safe Environment The safety of our children is the responsibility of every Christian. To report abuse to the diocese, current or past, by anyone acting in the name of the Church (paid or volunteer), call Louanne Payne, Pastoral Assistance Coordi-nator (English) on the confidential phone line: 270-852-8380, or Susan Montalvo-Gesser/Miguel Quintanilla, Pastoral Assistance Coordinators (Spanish): 270-880-8360. Third Sunday in Ordinary Time "Today this Scripture passage is ful-filled in your hearing." The question of when Jesus knew he was the Messiah has been debated since not long after he died and rose

from the dead. In the beginning of his Gospel that St. Luke addresses to "most excellent Theophilus" [in Greek "friend of God"] he tells of Jesus standing up in the synagogue in His home town of Nazareth to read a passage from the Book of Isaiah that prophesies the coming of the Messiah. He rolls up the scroll and an-nounces that "this Scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing." The people who had known Jesus from His youth, and knew Joseph and Mary even before He was born, responded with questions and then an-ger. But we have the benefit of Scripture in the New Testament and the witness of more than two thou-sands years of people who believed in Jesus as Mes-siah and Lord. We are challenged to demonstrate our belief in Jesus by getting to know him better, appreci-ating His love for us and imitating Him to the best of our ability for ourselves and others. We are chal-lenged to be a "friend of Christ."

Word of Life

“Many people know someone personally who is suffering because of an abortion. If a friend confided in you tomorrow that she had an abortion, would you be able to respond in a way that brings her closer to healing? … Even a woman who doesn’t go to church or think of her-self as religious can be afraid that God will never forgive her for having an abortion. She should know that God loves and forgives those who are sorrowful. He wants to comfort them and give them his peace.” USCCB Secretariat of Pro-Life Activities “How to Talk to a

The en re Catholic Church is called to par cipate in the upcoming Synod of Bishops!

We invite you to join us for a two part listening session.

Sts. Joseph and Paul Listening Sessions Session One

Sunday, January 23rd—1:30-3pm Parish Hall or Wednesday, January 26th—6:15-8pm Parish Hall

Session Two

Sunday, February 20th—1:30-3pm Parish Hall or Wednesday, February 23rd—6:15-8pm Parish Hall

Recently, Pope Francis announced a worldwide synod to focus on the life and mission of the Church as we move for-ward together. The theme for this synod is, “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Par cipa on and Mission.” Rather than simply a mee ng of bishops, Pope Francis has asked us, the People of God, to take part in the synod—to “journey together” with our brothers and sisters in Christ along the path of renewal, guided by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Father has asked that every parish in the Diocese par cipate in this synod in order to listen to the living voice of the en re People of God. Our parish will conduct a two-part synodal listening session. We invite you to join us for Session One on Sunday, January 23rd 1:30-3pm or Wednesday, January 26th 6:15-8pm and Session Two on Sunday, February 20th 1:30-3pm or Wednesday, February 23rd 6:15-8pm as part of the synod. These sessions will provide an opportunity for every member of our parish community to share our thoughts and feelings, but more importantly to discern how the Holy Spirit is guiding us in our journey together. Please join us for this important event. We want you to gather with us. However, if you can’t make the parish listening sessions, share your input online at h ps://owensborodiocese.org/synod
