WHAT IS GET CONNECTED?Digicel Play is looking for six talented students who can conceptualize a range of a new television ads, designed to help Papua New Guineans understand how they can get connected to Digicel Play.

HOW DO I SHARE MY VISION?Entrants will be required to articulate their concept in words and simple line drawings – filling out a “storyboard” that clearly illustrates how their 30 – 60 second video ad would unfold, shot by shot. Entrants can download a storyboard template and entry form online or collect printed copies of both from their local Digicel Store. Entries will be accepted online and in-store from Wednesday 15th October until close of business, Friday 16th December, 2015 or (online) until 11:59pm

WHO CAN ENTER?The competition is open to PNG students who are 18 – 25 years of age and currently enrolled in a PNG educational institution. The competition is suitable for students interested in pursuing further education and/or a career in Film and Television Production. Entrants must provide their Student ID number on the entry form.

THE JUDGING PROCESS:Our judging panel includes representatives from Digicel Play and the University of Goroka – the best place in PNG to study film and television production at a tertiary level. The judges decision will be final and the six winners will be notified by phone on 23rd October at 10am. The winners names will also be posted on the Digicel Play website – www.digicelplay.com.pg and announced on Facebook and Twitter.

Entries will be assessed on criteria such as originality, how effectively the concept communicates the information Digicel Play wishes to convey and the overall feasibility of the production required. The six winners must be available to attend a Film and Television Production Workshop at the University of Goroka from the 10th – 24th of January, 2016. The prize (see details below) covers all tuition, food, accommodation and air travel to the University of Goroka, so winners should only be out of pocket for any insurance policy they may wish to purchase and/or more personal expenses.

THE PRIZE:All six winners will receive a new smartphone and a two week intensive Film and Television Production Workshop at the University of Goroka, return airfares to the venue and accommodation and food while attending the workshop. During the course they will learn the basics of television production and will be actively mentored by experts in the field to bring their proposed advertisements for Digicel Play to life. Digicel Play also plan to air the winners’ advertisements on the new TVWAN channel. All winners will additionally receive a certificate at the end of the course workshop – providing an opportunity to kick start a career in the creative industries.

REGARDING THE ENTRY:1. Information on how to enter, prize details and other information forms part of the terms of entry. Entry into the competition signifies acceptance of these terms and conditions.

2. Entry to the GET CONNECTED COMPETITION is open to PNG students (full or part time) aged 18 -25 only. However, employees of Digicel and their associated companies and immediate family members are not permitted to enter. NB: Winners will be required to present a copy of their student ID card before they can claim their prize.

3. The GET CONNECTED COMPETITION opens on October 15, 2015 at 09:00 am and ends on October 16th, 2015 at 23.59 pm (the Competition Period).

4. The purpose of the GET CONNECTED COMPETITION is for Digicel Play to find SIX original, creative ideas for 6 x 30-60 second informative advertisements designed to inform the public about how they can connect to Digicel Play.

5. Entry to the competition is via the Digicel Play website or via an affiliated Digicel store. All entrants must fill out the official GET CONNECTED entry form in ENGLISH – online or on the back of the printed competition flyer – and submit the same as an attachment to their storyboarded concept.

6. To enter, participants must follow all directions on the website or on the competition flyer in order to successfully submit their entry form. ALL details on the form must be filled out -- including (but not limited to) name, address, email, and phone number. An outline of the entrant’s concept must be included on the entry form together with a storyboard and script notes. These must be in ENGLISH OR TOK PISIN only. The advertisement the concept details must not exceed 60 seconds duration.

7. Entries must be original. Digicel reserves the right to request additional confirmation of this. This is important, as all winners of the competition must assign copyright in their concept to Digicel.

REGARDING THE JUDGING:8. The judging panel will include 2 representatives from Digicel Play and 2 representatives from the Centre for Creative and Social Media, the Director Dr Verena Thomas and the Film and Television Workshop facilitator, Sorrel Wilby. Concepts will be judged on the following points:• Originality• How effectively the concept communicates the requisite message to viewers• How feasible the concept is to execute.

In the event of there being two very similar concepts short-listed, the judges reserve the right to award the one showing the greater level of sophistication in communicating the concept. The judges’ decision in this regard will be final.

9. All six winners will be contacted by email and/or phone by 23rd October, 2015.

10. Each winner will be required to attend a 2 week Broadcast Media Workshop at the University of Goroka, from 10th to 24th January, inclusive. During this time they will be mentored to produce their concept, ready for broadcast. All winners will be required to work collaboratively with their mentors and other winners. The University of Goroka will arrange air travel for the winners to and from Goroka, but any travel insurance must be secured and paid for by the winner. The University will provide dormitory-style accommodation and meals for the duration of the workshop. The University will additionally require the winners to sign a Code of Conduct Agreement for the duration of theirstay on campus.

11. The TV commercials made during the workshop by the winners will be shown on Digicel Play Channels and the web, at Digicel’s discretion. No remuneration will be offered and the commercials will remain the property of Digicel Play.

REGARDING THE PRIZES:12. Six winners will each receive a prize package containing: a new smartphone, return air travel to Goroka, a 2 week Broadcast Media Workshop at the University of Goroka (from 6th – 19th Jan, 2015 only), dormitory style accommodation at the University and all meals while the Workshop is running.

13. It is likely that the winners will also appear in a short-form documentary about the competition and the running of the workshop which may then be broadcast at Digicel Play’s discretion, on TV, online and via social media.

14. The Judging Panel will select and notify the winners on or before the 23rd October 2015 Their names will also be published on the Digicel website and Social media immediately after all six winners have been personally notified.

15. Digicel accepts no responsibility for any loss, damage, or injury incurred through entering the competition or in connection with the winners fulfilling their obligations on acceptance of their prize.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS16. Digicel and the University of Goroka take no liability for any issues that may arise from accepting a prize in this competition.

17. Digicel and the University of Goroka take no liability for loss, theft or damage to any equipment owned and used by the winners in the production of their proposed advertisements.
