SHARING OUR GIFTS Autumn is the season for harves ng and sharing the fruits of our labors. This week's scriptures use images of the harvest, family life, pregnancy, and investment to describe the abundant harvest in the reign of God. We discover that sharing the gi s we have been given brings eternal rewards for everyone. In the Gospel parable a master entrusts his possessions to three servants before going on a journey. Each is given some talents. What they do with those talents determines what the master will do with them when he returns. How about us? What are we doing with our talents? How will our Master treat us when he returns? Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

¿Cómo nos tratará nuestro Maestro cuando vuelva? would like. We would be happy to help you in the office with the ordering.

We do need to know a couple weeks in advance so that we can no fy Flowers Etc. of what flowers we would like to have in the arrangements.

medicina, enfermería, odontología o alguna carrera a n.

"I WILL TRUST YOU WITH THINGS OF GREAT VALUE" God has entrusted each of us with different gi s. He wants us to work with them every day so that at the end of our lives we will give him the good fruits that they bring to life. To some people God has given great physical strength. It is necessary that they use it to serve the weakest. There are those who have the ability to relate to others; they can serve as a bridge with others who find it difficult. Others feel called to lessen the suffering of others and are able to look fearlessly at blood, and therefore study medicine, nursing, den s-try or a related medical career. Those who have been favored by God with a be er economic situa on than the majority of people are especially called to help their brothers who have less. To others, the Lord has given great intelligence. This ability must be used for the common good and never to do evil. The bap zed form the Mys cal Body of Christ, and the gi s that we have received we must humbly place at the service of God and of others.

God trusts us, and wants to entrust us with even greater things. Do not let him down.

If we use God's talents, we shall find that they become mul -plied in the use. We thought we had two; we find we have five. --Richard Meux Benson

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Earlier this autumn, we looked at how our Eucharis c Prayers have been enriched by the approval of several new prayers to augment the old Roman Canon. For us, there are the four standard prayers, three for Masses with Children, and the most recent addi on, the former Swiss Eucharis c Prayer with four alterna ve forms (now known as the Eucharis c Prayer for Masses for Various Needs and Occasions). We also have two Eucharis c Prayers for Masses of Reconcilia on. The source for these two prayers is the request by many bishops for a special prayer for the "Holy Year" of 1975. Originally, the commi ee in charge was commissioned to write a single prayer, but the theme proved so rich that it gave rise to two. The first is based on and develops biblical texts on reconcilia on. The second starts with the experience of living in today's fractured world, and how the Spirit calls us to reconcilia on and peace. Not everyone was happy with all this crea vity, saying that if too many were published, it would be difficult for the Va can to control further requests. Everyone thought the pope would put strict limits on the prayers, but in the end he said he was willing to open doors that had long been closed. Although he approved them for a period of only three years, they were never formally removed from the Sacramentary and have been incorporated into the new Roman Missal. --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

--Fray Gilberto Cavazos-Glz, OFM, Copyright (c) J. I wonder what that third servant in the Gospel was doing all that me, a er he buried the talent he was given. Probably nothing. What strikes me is that the word for money in this reading is "talent," which in our language is an ability or skill. Maybe this parable can remind us to use our abili es and not let them go to waste. A person might be strong and fast, but if she exercises and prac ces, she could be a great athlete. The same with spiritual gi s. Just having one doesn't make you a saint. So how do you know what gi s you have? First, ask God in your prayers to show you what gi s you have been given. Read the scriptures, especially the Acts of the Apostles or the Le ers of Paul (e.g., 1 Corinthians 12:1-11). Listen humbly to friends or loved ones who can tell you what strengths they see in you. Second, look for ways to use your gi s. Check the parish bulle n or website or your diocesan newspaper for ac vi es and organiza ons that you could take part in. Hospitals, schools, shelters, and nursing homes frequently offer opportuni es for volunteers. Or you may see a need for some service that you can get started in the parish or community. Just remember that you are called to service by your bap sm and confirma on. Don't bury that calling by procras na ng or being afraid to try. Remember the "useless servant" with the one talent who was fearful and lazy (Ma hew 25:25-26). At least he can remind us to use it or lose it. Tom Schmidt, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.

We have received the designs and prices from the carpenter for the furnishings for our new daily Mass and Adora on chapel. These items are all hand cra ed by a local ar san. They are made from oak. Deacon Joe Schwertner’s memorial fund will purchase the altar as planned and in addi on to that it will also purchase the Presider’s Chair, the Deacon’s Chair and the Presider’s Table. All of these things will be in memory of Deacon Joe. In addi on to these items there are a few other items to pay for: The Credence Table: $875.00 The Ambo:$1,850.00 The Sta ons of the Cross: $80.00 each (14 of these) If you would like more informa on or to look at the designs, please stop by the parish office. If you want an example of the ar san’s work, he did the wood base for our new bap smal font.

¿Qué don has enterrado?
