Adults as well. Registration for the second time, if you did not sub-mit the documents last year, you must do it now, Your child cannot receive the Sacrament of First Communion or Confirmation without those documents. For those children who received First Commun-
ion in May can register for the Followers of Jesus classes.

Today we hear John the Baptist
crying out his Advent message
in the desert: “Prepare the way
of the Lord; make straight his
paths.” He is proclaiming repent-
ance for the forgiveness of sins.
Luke likens the Baptist’s mes-
sage to the prophecy we heard
from Isaiah. In the ancient
world, whenever an important
ruler was set to visit an area, all
the roads of the area were re-
paired: valleys filled in, wind-
ing roads made straight, rough
roads made smooth. All this
was done so that the visit
would be pleasant and delays could be avoided. And the people
would benefit too, because the ruler would bring gifts and de-
clare a holiday. All this preparation led to a welcome.
The Baptist is inviting us to make a similar preparation for wel-
coming the coming of our God in Jesus. Those who wish to wel-
come the Lord of life should desire to fill in the valleys created
by our sins, make the winding roads of our conflicting desires
straight, and smooth the rough roads of our anxieties and fears.
This is repentance: a graced change in the way we choose to
live. And the gifts that the Lord will bring us are the forgiveness
of our sins and a deeper sharing in the very life and love of our
God.

En el Evangelio de hoy escu-
chamos las palabras de Juan el
Bautista, quien nos urge a que nos
preparemos para la llegada de
Jesús.
Nuestro corazón es la fuente de
nuestras acciones. Nuestras ac-
ciones reflejan la forma verdadera
de nuestro corazón. Quien haya
ganado el corazón de una persona
lo ha ganado a él o a ella en su
totalidad. Aún así ese corazón, el
cual deseamos sea nuestro punto
de partida, ha de ser instruido. Juan
el Bautista desea que llenemos de
fe y de esperanza nuestros temero-
sos corazones. Existen ciertos
miedos y ansiedades que, cuando
se desbordan, perturban el corazón
dejándolo desmoralizado. Pero estos son zanjas y valles que debemos
llenar con la confianza y la esperanza derivada de nuestra preparación para
la llegada de nuestro Señor.
Construyan caminos verticales. Los caminos llenos de recovecos fatigan y
terminan despistando al viajero. Debemos rectificar nuestro camino confi-
ando en que Dios nos proveerá toda la ayuda necesaria para que logremos
adquirir una buena disposición. No se desanimen. Hagan todo lo posible
por desarrollar un espíritu de compasión. No me cabe la menor duda de que
Dios los lleva tomados de la mano. Si Dios permite que se tropiecen en un
momento determinado, es sólo para que ustedes sepan que si El no los
llevara tomados de la mano se habrían caído. Es de esta forma que apren-
demos a estrechar la mano de Dios con más fuerza.

A Godparent must be a practicing Catholic, at least eighteen years old,
and must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Communion & Con-
firmation. If married, must be married in the Catholic Church. If you are
living in common-law with your partner you cannot be godfather or
Godmother.
