High Youth Ministry will meet on MONDAY evenings
instead of Wednesday evenings. The complete schedule will

WALK TO JERUSALEM —"I was glad for the suggestion of going to Jerusalem, to the Temple of the Lord......all Jehovah's people have come to worship, to thank and praise the Lord" ( Psalm 122 ). The St. Catherine of Siena Health and Healing Ministry is very pleased to report that 50 teams and/or individuals walked to Jerusalem during Lent, in just 8 weeks logging in 10,435 miles. Congratulations to all our virtual walkers. The Silling Family led the pack with a 1728 miles total, and Donna Hammond singly logged in 315 miles. Special mention to the Rosato family (1,099) and Mr. Dillon's 6th grade class (1,080). We knew this parish family could meet the 8 week challenge with miles to spare!!

St. Catherine of Siena 2014 Lenten Mercy Project/Report to Parishioners
Dear Parishioners, Your generosity and that of your children once again surpassed our and the designated agencies' expectations! Each week we filled an SUV to capacity, front to back, top to bottom! We also collected a grand total of almost $1100 in cash contributions. Our children donated almost as much themselves—$980 from their own resources, nearly doubling last year’s contribution! This year, the Lenten Mercy Project sup-ported 6 agencies: Gifts of Love, The Little Sisters of the Poor St. Joseph Residence, Interval House, Nurturing Families Network at St. Francis Hospital, and the Veteran's Home and Families in Crisis. We chose those agencies to address the needs of various groups including local families experiencing a financial crisis, the elderly poor, battered women, disadvantaged newborns and their mothers, disabled veterans, and families of the imprisoned. In addition, the money collected by our children supported Covenant to Care, which provides assistance for children, who are neglected, abused or impoverished. These agencies are always in need of assistance and if you are interested in continuing to provide for them, you can contact them and offer either goods, financial support or volunteer support. A list of the agencies and the contact information is on our St. Catherine website, stcatherine.info. In order to deliver the tremendous amount of goods, we were assisted by fabulous volunteers. Special thanks for packing and delivery go to Carol Herron, Amy Daniels, Sue Hessions, and Carolyn Gorecki. We are also grateful to Father Michael for his promotion of the project, Tom Tanski for his website support, Kathi Bonner for coordinating our Religious Education efforts and Lisa Cerchia for the collection of funds. A Fantastic Way to Get Involved
in Your Community Recruitment Session
Scheduled for those Interested in becoming
a McLean Meals-on-Wheels Volunteer.
A Meals-on-Wheels driver recruitment session will be
held on Monday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. in the Burkholder
Restaurant at The Village at McLean, 100 Sarah Lane, Simsbury.
All who are interested in learning more about becoming a
volunteer driver are invited to attend.
The McLean Meals-on-Wheels program is a fantastic
way for residents to get involved in their community. Volunteers
deliver nutritious meals to homebound seniors. They also provide
companionship and a safety check for residents in the
community. All it requires is a two-hour commitment once or
twice a month, and access to a car. Become one of the Meals-on-
Wheels volunteers and make a difference in someone’s life.

ing benefit for the Malta House Food Pantry. For $20 per
adult and children under 12 free, enjoy an afternoon and evening

Health and Healing Ministry hosted a Life Care seminar for parishioners on how to consider long term care, skilled nursing care or other forms of life care as we advance in age. Q. I take care of my mother, who has dementia. I was very active in my parish, but now I hardly have a mi-nute to spare for prayer, much less helping out at church. I’m getting very depressed. What should I do? A. I have several ideas. First, make your prayer life part of your mother’s routine, and you’ll find it easier to fit into your day. People with dementia find it soothing to listen to repetitive prayer, so consider praying the rosary aloud in her presence. Sometimes people with advanced dementia can still remember and recite the Our Father and Hail Mary, so you could end up praying the rosary together. That would truly be a gift. Next, try reading aloud Scripture stories from a youth Bible. They’ll be easier for her to understand than passages from an adult Bible, and you’ll get some time with God’s Word. Last, but absolutely not least, it’s important for you to be connected. If your parish has a parish nurse, he or she can help you find respite care, in which someone else take your place with your mom so you can get away for a while, or a caregiver-support group where you can talk with other people in your situation. If your parish doesn’t have a nurse, your diocese can give you the same infor-mation. Remember, attending to your spiritual health doesn’t just help you—it helps your mother too. –Fr. food orders with quality meats and produce. Give them a try! ABC’S of Annulments—“ABC’S of Annulments”, an
informational program designed to answer questions about
the process of Annulments, will be held on Friday May 9th
2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM, at St. Gregory the Great Church,
235 Maltby Street, Bristol, CT. This program will be held in
the Church Hall. Pre-registration is not required. Brother
Larry Lussier, CSC, will be the presenter. Questions will be
accepted following the presentation. This presentation is
open to all seeking an annulment in the Catholic Church.

The Hands of Christ Citizenship Award sponsored by both the Men’s and
Women’s clubs will be accepting applications during the month of May. Guidelines and applications will soon be available on the St. Catherine website and in the atrium. [email protected] . The Hands of Christ Citizenship Award will be given to a member of St. Catherine of Siena Parish who has shown a dedication to the parish or other service. The award is to be used to pursue the recipient’s passion for service or education.
Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat, for healing after
abortion. If you are suffering, experience the healing love of
Jesus Christ on a Rachel’s Vineyard Retreat weekend, May 30-
June 1st in Hamden, CT. The weekend healing process
includes discussions Living Scriptures with meditations, the
Sacrament of Reconciliation, a Memorial Service and Mass of
Entrustment. Participation is totally confidential and offers a
beautiful opportunity to experience God’s love , forgiveness and
compassion. Both men and women have participated in past re-
treats and have ranged in age from teens to mid-eighties. The fee
is $175.00 for meals, a private room and all retreat materials. For

St. Catherine of Siena Church will be delivering prepared food to St. Elizabeth House in Hartford on Sunday May 11. We are in need of both volunteers to deliver
and serve food as well as volunteers to prepare the food. Sign-up sheets are in the atrium at the back of the church. SAVE THE DATE! The Annual St. Catherine of Siena
Charity Golf Tournament is coming up
on Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Simsbury
Farms Golf Course. All men and women
of the parish are welcome to attend. Put it on your calendar and
invite your friends. Proceeds from this year’s Tournament will
be donated to the Malta House of Care Mobile Medical Clinic
and our own Pantry Partners food ministry. The Tournament
will have a shot-gun start at 11:30 AM and a scrambles format.
It will include 18 holes of golf, cart, lunch, cocktail hour, dinner,
prizes and a putting contest. More details to follow.
