I speak of stones that have always lain in the
open or rested in a homely nest in the recesses
of earths dark veins. They hail from the very
beginnings of the planet, at times the offshoot
of another star. If so, they carry marks of their
twisting in space as the stigmata of their terrible
fall. They belong to before the time of man;
when man appeared, he did not alter them
with marks of his art or industry; he did not
craft them further, for some trivial, luxurious
or historical purposes. The stones perpetuate
their own memory alone. They remained as
they were, sometimes fresher, more legible, but
always strictly true to themselves and nothing
else (...).
I speak of those stones yet older than life itself
that remain long after life on the cooled planets,
if life had indeed the good fortune to burgeon.
I speak of stones that do not even have to waitfor death, that have nothing to do but to let
slide over their surface the sand, the rain or the
surf, storms, time.
No symbol whatsoever is etched over the
upright stones, not even a rudimentary one, as if
they hailed not only from before writing itself,
but before drawing too, or as if the workers
who had erected them had chosen not to let
anything figure on their surfaces. Signs as and
of themselves, the blocks appear exempt frombearing any. (...) Thus the first undertaking was
to get up standing, in glory and for memory,
these perpetual silent boundary stones with no
symbol nor motto, that were nonetheless taking
possession of the planet.
Centuries have passed. The distant descendants
of these deprived manufacturers can now call on
a quasi unlimited power. They are only able to
read in the stones, as nothing more than stones
standing directly above the ground - that their
baffled science designates by a Greek term, the first
evidence of their own obscure ambition, just as
disproportionate, as unpolished and as solitary. And
they wonder at the fact that misshapen upright
pillars initiated the entire history of their species..

a cualquier uso trivial, lujoso o histrico.
no figurar nada.
especie.

Izarpean edo haien hobian beti etzan diren eta
zainen gauean lo egin duten harrien inguruan
hitz egiten dut. Planetaren hasieratik egon dira,
kasu batzuetan beste izar batetik etorriak. Haien
gain espazioaren bihurdura daramate, erorketa
izugarriaren estigma bailitzan. Gizakia baino
lehen egon dira; eta gizakia, heldu zenean,
ez zituen bere artea edo bere industriaren
aztarnarekin markatu; ez zituen landu,
garrantzirik gabeko, luxuzko edo erabilpen
historiko bati zuzenduz. Haien memoria
propiotik haratago, ez dira iraunarazten. Zirenak
izaten jarraitzen dute, batzuetan freskoagoak
eta irakurgarriagoak, baina beti ere haien egian
zentratuz: haiek beraiek eta ez beste ezer (...).
Bizitzak baino adin gehiago duten harrietaz
hitz egiten dut, eta planeta hotzetan irauten
dutenak, nahiz eta honek zortea eduki izana
hauekin eklosionatzean. Heriotza itxaronbehar ez duten eta ez dutenak besterik egin
behar eta area, euria, ekaitza, edo denbora
haien gainazaletik irristatzen utzi behar duten
harrietaz hitz egiten dut.
Harri tente, zeinu baliogabea, baita elementala,
ez da grabaturik inskribitzen, idazketa aurretik
egongo bailiran bezala, marrazketa aurretik, edo
tente jarr i zituztenek ezer azaltzeko aukeratuak
izan zirela bezala. Zeinuak haien baitan, bloke
hauek iruditik libre dirudite. () Hau zutunikjartzearen lehen betebeharra hemen izan zen,
glorian eta memorian, betiereko zeinu isilen, ez
sinbolo ez kontakizun, eta hala ere, munduaren
jabetza hartzeari utzi gabe.
Mendeak pasa dira. Medio gabeko
eraikitzaileen urruneko ondorengoek botere

bakarrik eta honen zientzia zurtuak termino
greko batekin izendatzen du, ambizio ilun

gehiegizkoa, hain txarto landua eta bakartia,
haien beste. Eta haiek estela deformatuek
haien espeziearen historia inauguratzea
miresten dute.

Superficies & sonido
all de cierta superficie).
(algs) significa dolor, tambin mancha, anmala mancha blanca.

Y as
no permite decir nada.

lgico perfectamente coherente o perfectamente incomprensible, inici
absolutamente superficial (o absolutamente asuperficial).

grec, (alodaps) veut dire tranger .
En sanskrit, an-

Surfaces & sound
There is an immense field of stones. In spite of its stillness it is a completely
random landscape.
The immense field of stones is motionless but at the same time impossible
to predict. In Spanish random is aleatorio, a word derived from the Indo-
European root al- , which is used for a variety of meanings concerning
otherness. In Sanskrit rana means distant (furthest away from a given
surface). In Armenian ail means other (that which has a surface of its own).
In Greek (alodaps) means foreign. Also in Greek
(parlilo), meaning parallel describes absolute otherness (two surfaces thatwill never meet). In Latvian alut means to wander, i.e. to walk aimlessly,
to determinedly pursue a categorical otherness: those who wander follow an
absolute direction (they are not governed by any partial surface). In Sanskrit
an-ala means fire, that interrupted otherness, that being which is unceasingly
foreign to itself (that being with a diffuse, scorching surface). In Welsh alu
means to feed, an act of relating to foreign objects that Western thinking
considers inferior to knowing (interference, the magical transgression of
surfaces). In ancient Icelandic we find perhaps the most dazzling derivation ofall: elska means to live. In the Tocharian language spoken in the Tarim river
basin in Central Asia in the 6th-8th centuries alim meant life, alask meant
suppress (to annihilate the surface that makes something present). In Greek
(algs) means grief, but also stain: an anomalous white stain.
Chance (alea), unreduced otherness, otherness in a translucent state,
otherness with no surface, is a further displacement of a lost expression that
must have contained the original gesture of a speaking body and that now
binds its intimately to the vision of an unexpected white stain.
There is an immense field of stones. The field of stones is random: it is
absolutely immersed in the game of chance. It is an immense dispersion
of signs in which each one is so detailed, so indiscernible that it seems
to be being written by the body of chance itself: writing that deploys
something as empty as chance on the fall of stones.
In spite of this each one of its parts, each of its bodies houses a slight
pronunciation on its surface, transparency, chance, has not wiped out all
traces. That slight pronunciation is the presence of another, lesser factor
of imperfect otherness: the latency of the decomposition of the stones.
7/23/2019 "Surfaces" de Marie Sommer
39/87
That slight memory of fracturing is laid out like a sound on the surfaces
of each pebble.
This does not mean that the sound is audible. It is a meticulous polar or
desert wind (both these devastated landscapes are useful to us) that we are
incapable of understanding and that sweeps across the meticulous shapes
of the faces of each fragment. It is a sound that intervenes, a sound that
intervenes as something opposite to sight in sight, and not in hearing: it is
a sound that is the image of the impact.
(The impact does not have enough time. The impact is a concentration of(im) presence that divides. The impact has no duration but and perhaps
because of this it does have an image, a blind image, a blind, audible
image. The image of the impact can only be seen as a silent hearing: it is a
sound somewhat less, not somewhat more, somewhat less than the silence
of the image): a sound that is a depression in the silence of the image. An
excitement by its very absence.
Photography is condemned to see the surface of objects, the surface of the
field of stones, the surface of each stone in the field, the surface of the mistthat invades the landscape. Photography is itself an impact, and its intimate
game is obtaining the image of the impact (which separated one stone from
another, making it a moment): or perhaps its intimate game is to excite
muteness until it obtains an even lesser silence, a state of possibility capable
of housing something less audible than an image, so that it is possible to see
a sound. Or more precisely to hear with a vision.
Falling into an even lower silence produces a form of sound that can be
called sub-silence. There is no form of noise, of white noise, on the image,
nor any play of synaesthesia. It is a paradox. It is not that the image suggests
a voice. The audibility of the surface (of the stone in the photo, of the
photo of the stone) produces no sound, no classical sound, it is not a raving
product of the audible but rather it sinks into silence. It does not produce a
word; it produces the shape of an empty voice inside the silence.
This entails a paradox. It might be thought (not inaccurately) that
photographic images halt reality by abolishing its sounds, its pronunciation
(its movement). Photographic images stop things through their muteness.
Photographic images extirpate the audible and by doing so bring the
7/23/2019 "Surfaces" de Marie Sommer
40/87
world to stop. But they seem to fail, or seem to be failing in this game
of stoppages. Minor sounds, sub-zero sounds, absent vocabularies, sounds
hidden beneath the sound of nothing seemed to remain printed on their
surfaces (vibrationless, infertile to all things voice-related). A region of
audibility seems to be established that is only perceptible in images.
In its failure, photography is an excavation of silence. That excavation
allows nothing to be said. Its vocabulary is distributed in the emptiest
band of emptiness, in the strange disappearance of silence into even
greater silence. It discovers (or configures) a fall, a form of sound that is
deeper than that which characterises what has lost the possibility of being
listened to, a form of sound that appears in vision, a subtle trembling on
the surface that is slighter than silence and, therefore, can only be heardthrough images.
It is the vertigo of the audible. Vertigo is a strange arrangement of
movement. Only images produce vertigo. Only the promise that beats
in images turns their fall into an unavoided fact, turns their fall into an
autonomous event of their bodies: a horizontal vertigo can be felt; the
vertigo of the image on the horizon. It is an audible vertigo, or the sound
of vertigo that lacks a voice, like the sirens. If we have not heard their
singing perhaps it is because on the coast, burnt by the sun, sailors couldonly see and hear the diffuse image of a sound.
If photography is the excavation of silence, if its suppression of sound on
stopping reality is so absolute that it depresses it to the point where it
is audible as an image, it is not outlandish to think in terms of a surface
archaeology, a minimal archaeology in which what has happened can
be glimpsed, in which the surface of the rock is seen to be a dimension
between times, where the surface of the rock is seen not to be present: it
houses its past as a sound.
The optical lens photography is incapable of seeing what comes before
or after itself. But it can listen to earlier things. Photography (which is
a surface) can hear the impact originated by the surface of the stone
(however complex it may be) or the accumulation of tiny scratches that
gradually defined it.
Time is the proof of otherness, time is the profusion of others. Time
is the impossibility of the identical. Otherness (to annihilate which the
photographic moment was designed: photography would give us sameness,
the object in itself) persists in that depression of sound, in that depression

that expresses what can fall no further but falls further, towards a more
mute silence. That is why this type of sound is not audible. That is why
this type of sound is visible. Something that is prohibited for photography
seeing what happened before the present takes place as one listens to
the sight or sees the listening.
Photography sees surfaces as sounds. The silent photographed surface of
the stone in the field of stones is not an image, it is a hearing.
A journey across the field of stones, across the landscape where surfaces
have become infinite and indistinct in their meticulousness, shows close-
up the variety of grey. There is a stone that has been cut. Its interior has
struck a wall of glass. The stone, saturated on its surface, adheres to an
emptiness that acts as an obstacle and stops it. Photography glimpses asound that is an image.
Further on, a great block has collapsed naturally. The surfaces along which
it broke seem to have been produced by the evidence of an unbearable
interior. Where some of its faces meet there are tiny edges that are scarcely
credible given the size of the rock. Their surfaces are all but inexistent. In
them part of the cut seems to have been left behind. In them the break
continues to act consistently although it is exhausted in the rest of the
stone. In them an inexistence of sound is attained.Following Walter Burkert in Homo Necans the thesis can be maintained
that religious feeling appears in an animal that is aware that it kills, in an
animal whose consciousness of the destitution of others leads it to an abyss
that it must seek to overcome. The problem of surfaces can be seen in one
of his investigations. The hunter hunts the animal. Once the prey that
has always been moving is abruptly stopped it is trapped by the magical
action of the point that penetrates its surface, in still clumsiness upon
the ground. The hunter opens it up. This breaking of its surface (what
fate is a sign?) begins the ritual delirium, the multiplication of divinities.
The displacement of the surface gives rise to the god. Elsewhere, when
Mongol shepherds who are forbidden to kill (to interrupt the surface of
their sheep) decide to slaughter an animal for their own consumption,
they do so blindly, hiding the point where the blade breaks into the skin
with a cloth or looking away.
A sign is a displacement of a surface. Peirce (who, following a perfectly
coherent or perfectly incomprehensible logical path, began his scientific
work with studies concerning the measurement of light, and later devoted
7/23/2019 "Surfaces" de Marie Sommer
44/87
his efforts to measuring its anomaly, the sign) asserts that in a sign one
object is in the place of another, one surface is in the place of another. He
warns that during the sign the surface is displaced.
Five final notes on the logic of surfaces:
Under the field of stones runs a river. Sometimes it emerges between
the stones. The field of stones is reflected in it. The topology of the water
approximates the understanding of surfaces. Water is all surface and at
the same time lacks surface. In the body of water otherness (it intrinsic
otherness) appears as transparency. The transparency of water is the ruin
of its insistent destruction.
Water shows photography the possibility and the logic of a body capableof removing itself from itself and all but disappearing when another takes
its place or its picture. In surface tension, the slightly insistence in which
water contains its destruction, a reflection appears.
Inside a mist one is inside a surface, not inside a body. Mist is an
autonomous surface, a pure surface. It is the proof that surfaces take place
independently, with no support, and that an absolutely superficial (or
absolutely asuperficial) world is perfectly imaginable. It is also proof that
any body can be seen as an amalgamated surface. For neutrinos that passfreely through the body of a rock, that interior that we call an obstacle is
no more than a mist.
If a space without objects (lacking in surface) is simulated and a flow
of light is introduced into it, a full effect of disappearance is achieved.
Sight will see an empty volume like the distance between planets, the
lonely gap between meteorites. Light, that body with no surface or
appearance, requires other bodies, the bodies of others, adjacent surfaces
in order to appear. Light is an immense gap that becomes iridescent when
it encounters a body with surfaces. The space of light (the space where
nothing gets in its way) is an immense, dark, invisible air. Its nothingness
is that insistent. It is something beyond nothingness: it is a fall (audible as
a lack of sound) towards an expressionless face, towards the absence left
by a mirror that has ceased to exist.

da: harriaren deskonposizioaren sortasuna. Zatikatzearen oroimen arin
hori soinu gisa iltzaturik dago hartxintxar bakoitzaren azaleretan.
Horrek ez du esan nahi soinu hori entzuteko modukoa denik. Poloko
erabil dezakegu), ulertezin gertatzen zaiguna eta zatiki bakoitzaren aldeen
orografia zehatza jotzen duena. Tartean jartzen den soinua da, ikuskarian
bertan ikuspenaren aurka dagoen egitate gisa tartean jartzen den zerbait,
entzumenetik at: kolpearen irudia den soinua.
Kolpeak ez du aski aldiunerik. Gauzak banantzen dituen presentziarik
ezaren baitarapena da kolpea. Kolpeak ez du iraupenik, baina apika,
hori dela bide badu irudirik: entzuteko moduko irudi itsua. Kolpearen
irudia entzute mutu gisa begiztatzen da: irudiaren mututasuna baino
soinu arinagoa da, ez hura baino ozenagoa. Irudiaren isiltasunean apalaldi
bilakatzen den soinua da. Aldentzearen karizko kitzika.
Argazkilaritza objektuen azalera ikustera behartuta dago, hots, harritzaren
azalera, harritzako harri bakoitzaren azalera, paisaia lausotzen duen
lanbroaren azalera islatzera. Argazkilaritza kolpea da, berez, eta haren joko
mina kolpearen irudi hori atzematea da (harriak bata bestearengandik
banandu zituen talka, kolpe hori aldiune gisa eratzen duena): agian,
haren barne-barneko jokoa mututasuna kitzikatzea da, harik eta isiltasun
apalagoa erdietsi arte, irudi bat baino are entzunezinagoa den zerbait beregain hartzeko gai den ahalbide-egoera iritsi arte. Eta horren azken xedea:
soinu bat ikusi ahal izatea. Edo, zehatzago esanda: azken batean, optika
baliatuz entzun ahal izatea.
Are txikiagoa den isiltasunean erortzeak azpi-isiltasunari dagokion soinu-
era eragiten du. Ez da ezelako zarata-modurik, irudiaren gaineko zarata
zuririk, ez eta inolako sinestesia-jokorik ere. Paradoxa bat da. Kontua ez da
irudiak ahotsa iradokitzea. Azalera entzuteko modukoa izateak (argazkiko
harria, harriaren argazkia) ez du soinurik, soinu klasikorik eragiten, ez
da entzungaien eldarniozko emaitza, isiltasun hutsean murgiltzen baita.Ez du hitz jakinik ekoizten, ahots hutsaren isiltasunaren barneko forma
baizik.
Horrek guztiak paradoxa dakar berekin. Pentsa daiteke (erratzeke) argazki-
irudiak errealitatearen soinua, haren ahoskatzea, haren mugimendua
ezabatuz geldiarazten duela errealitatea bera. Argazki-irudiak
mututasunaren bidez geldiarazten du hura. Argazki-irudiak entzungaia
erauzten du, eta hura errotik ateratzerakoan mundua geldiarazten du;
baina porrot egiten duela ematen du, gelditze-joko horretan porrot egiten
segitzen duela ematen du. Soinuarekiko dardaragaitza eta antzua den
7/23/2019 "Surfaces" de Marie Sommer
52/87
azaleran soinu apalagoak, zero azpiko soinuak, hiztegi galduak, ezerezaren
soinua baino ezkutuagoak diren soinuak irarririk geratzen direla ematen
du. Irudi gisa soil-soilik atzeman daitekeen entzungai-eremua ezarririk
duela ematen du.
Argazkilaritza, bere porrotean, isiltasuna hondeatzean datza. Induskatze
horrek ez du ezer esaten uzten. Haren hiztegiak huts-zerrenda hutsagoa
atzematen du, isiltasuna isiltasun handiagoan desagertzen den eremu
bitxia. Erortze bat estalgabetzen (edo konfiguratzen) du, entzungaitasuna
galdu duen soinua ezaugarritzen duen soinu-era sakonagoa, ikuspenaren
arloan gertatzen den soinu-era, azalerako dardara gozoa, isiltasuna baino
leunagoa dena eta, ondorioz, irudiaren bitartez baino entzun ez daitekeena.
Entzungaiaren bertigoaz ari gara. Bertigoa mugimenduaren antolaera
bitxia da. Irudiak baino ez du bertigoa eragiten. Irudian datzan agintzari
sorrak baino ez du erorketa saihesten ez den egitate bilakarazten, hark
baino ez du erorketa gorputzen egitate autonomo bihurrarazten,
bertigo horizontala ere nabari baitaiteke: zeruertzeko irudiaren bertigoa.
Entzuteko modukoa den bertigoa da, ahotsik gabeko bertigoaren soinua,
uhandreena bezalakoa. Agian, ez dugu haien kantua ezagutzen, zeren,
eguzkiak bete-betean itsuarazten duen itsasertzean, marinelek soinu baten
irudi lausoa besterik ez baitzuten ikusten eta entzuten.
Baldin eta argazkilaritza isiltasuna hondeatzea bada, baldin eta errealitateageldiaraztean soinua zeharo ezabatzen bada eta irudi gisa entzuteko
modukoa egiten bada, badu zentzurik azaleraren arkeologia taxutzea, hau
da, gertatu dena antzemateko gutxieneko arkeologia hori lantzea; izan
ere, arkeologia hori oinarri hartuz, harkaitzaren azalera denboraren arteko
dimentsioa dela ohartuko gara, harkaitzaren azalera bertan ez dagoela
ikusiko dugu, haren iragana soinu gisa gordetzen baitu.
Argazkilaritzaren adierazkaria den optikak ezin dezake bere egitateak
baino lehen edo egitateon ostean ikus. Gai da, ordea, aurretiazko egitatea
entzuteko. Argazkilaritzak (zein azalera bat den) harriaren azalera sorrarazizuen kolpea (erabat konplexua izan arren) edo harria zehaztuz joan diren
urradura txikien pilaketa entzun dezake.
Denbora bestelako egitatearen froga da, denbora bestelako egitateen
pilaketa da. Denborak egitate identikoak gertatu ezina eragiten du.
Bestelako egitatea suntsitzeko diseinaturik dago argazki-aldiunea:
argazkiak aldiuneko objektu bera islatuko liguke; izan ere, bestelako
egitateak iraun egiten du soinu-beheraldi horretan, beherago ezin eror
daitekeen eta, aldiz, gero eta mutuagoa den isilaldirantz areago erortzen
den objektuaren adierazpen-beheraldian. Hainbestez, soinu mota hau ez

da entzuteko modukoa. Hainbestez, soinu mota hau ikusteko modukoa da.
Hori debeku da argazkilaritzaren alorrean, hots, objektuaren orainaldiaren
aurretik gertaturikoa ikustea; egitate hori, hain zuzen, ikuspenaren
entzunaldian gertatzen da, edo entzunaldiaren ikuspenean.
Argazkiak soinu gisa ikusten du azalera. Harkaiztegiko harriaren azalera
isilari egindako argazkia ez da irudia: entzunaldia da.
Harkaiztegian zehar ibiltzean, zorroztasunaren zorroztasunez azalerak
amaigabe eta bereizezin bilakatu diren paisaian zehar ibiltzean, hur-
hurretik ikus dezakegu gris aldaera. Ebakirik dagoen harri bat dago.
Haren barnealdea kristalezko hesi batean bildu da. Harria, bere azaleran
aserik, behaztopa-harri duen eta geldiarazten duen hutsari itsatsirik dago.
Argazkiak irudi den soinua begiztatzen du.
Aurrerago, bloke handi bat modu naturalean zerraldo erorita dago. Haren
haustura-azalerek barnealde jasanezinaren ebidentziak eragindakoak
dirudite. Blokearen aldeetako baten elkargune-ertzean aho imio
sinestezinak daude, harkaitzaren bolumenari begira. Aho horietan azalerak
ez-izatea du hurbil-hurbil. Horietan, ebakiduraren zati bat atzean geratu
dela ematen du. Horietan hausturak ekin eta ekin jarduten jarraitzen du,
harriaren gainerako ataletan akitu ondorik. Horietan soinuzko ez-izatea
erdiesten da.
Walter Burkert-ek Homo Necans liburuan adierazten duen tesiarenarabera, hiltzen duela badakien animaliarengan sortzen da erlijiotasuna,
beste izaki bat deuseztatzen duela badakien animaliarengan, eta horrela
nola edo hala saihestu behar duen amildegiaren aurrean jartzen du bere
burua. Haren ikerlanetako batean, badirudi azaleraren arazoa antzematen
dela. Ehiztariak animalia ehizatzen du. Behin lazki geldiarazi ondoren,
ehizakia, beti mugitzen egon izan dena, azala zulatu dion geziak eragiten
duen egitate magikoak harrapatzen du, lurrean geldi dagoen fardel
baldar antzo. Ehiztariak ireki egiten du azalera hori. Azaleraren hausturak
(zer da, bestela, zeinu bat?) erritu-zorabioa abiarazten du, jainkoenbiderketa. Azalera lerratzeak jainkoa sorrarazten du. Osterantzean, artzain
mongoliarrak, hiltzea (bere bildotsen azalera urratzea) debeku duenak,
eguneroko otorduetarako arkumeren bat hiltzea erabakitzen duelarik,
itsu-itsuan hiltzen du, aiztoaren ahoak azala urratzen duen gunea trapu
batez estaliz edo handik begirada alderatuz.
Zeinua azaleraren lerratzea da. Peirce-k ohartarazi zuenez (zeinek, zeharo
koherentea edota zeharo ulertezina den ibilbide logikoari jarraiki, argiaren
neurketari eta, ondorik, haren anomalia den zeinuaren neurketari buruzko
azterlanekin abiarazi baitzuen bere zientzia-jardunbidea), zeinuak irauten

duen artean, objektu bat beste baten tokian dago, azalera bat beste azalera
baten lekuan dago. Adierazi zuenez, zeinuak irauten duen artean, azalera
zatikaturik gertatzen da.
Azkeneko bost ohar azaleren logikari buruz:
Ibaia doa harritzaren azpialdean zehar. Lantzean behin azaleratu egiten
da, harkaitzen artean. Harritzak bere burua islatzen du. Uraren topologiak
azaleren ulerkuntza hurbilarazten digu. Ura osoan da azalera, eta aldi
berean, berriz, ez du azalerarik. Uraren gorputzean bestelakotasuna
(haren berezko bestelakotasuna) gardentasun gisa agertzen da. Uraren
gardentasuna haren suntsidura setatiaren hondamendia da.
Bere burua bazter lagatzeko eta besteak haren tokia edo irudia hartzen
duenean ia desagertzeko gauza den gorputz baten ahalbidea eta logika
erakusten dizkio urak argazkilaritzari. Azalerako tentsioan, urak bere
suntsidura geldiarazten duen seta leunean, isla sortzen da.
Lanbroaren barruan azalera baten barnealdean gaude, ez gorputz baten
barruan. Lanbroa azalera autonomoa da, azalera aratza. Azalerak modu
irudikatu baitezakegu erabat azalekoa (edo erabat azalerarik gabekoa) den
mundua. Halaber, gorputz oro nahasturazko azalera gisa uler daitekeen
froga ere bada. Harkaitzaren gorputza trabarik gabe zeharkatzen duenneutrinoarentzat, oztopo deritzogun barnealde hori lanbroa bezalakoa da.
Baldin eta objekturik gabeko espazioa irudikatzen badugu (batere
azalerarik gabea), eta baldin espazio horretan argi-fluxua sartzen badugu,
erabateko desagerpen-efektua azaleratuko zaigu. Optikaren ikuspegia
bolumen hutsarena izango da, meteoritoen arteko bakartasunarena. Argiak,
azalerarik eta agerpen geldirik ez duen gorputz horrek, beste gorputz
batzuk behar ditu, besteren azalerak diren bestelako gorputzak behar ditu
agertu ahal izateko. Argia egundoko hutsunea da, azalerak dituen gorputz
batekin topo egitean irisatzaile bilakatzen dena. Argiaren espazioa (harenbidearen erdian jartzen ez den ezer ere ez dagoen espazioan) egundoko
aire ilun ikusezina da. Hain da setatia haren ezereza. Hutsetik haratago
dagoen zerbait da: aurpegi izukaitz bateranzko erortzea da (soinurik
ezaz entzun daitekeena), unean izateari utzi dion ispilu batek laga duen
absentziarantz jaustea alegia.

In about 1980, a small meteorite
(45 x 31 x 20 cm) weighing 100 kg
landed in a field next to Retuerta del
Bullaque (Ciudad Real), and was picked up
by the Asensio Lopez family, who thought it
to be a possible war scrap and gave it various
domestic uses - for a long time it served
the purpose of pressing ham in its phase of
salting. (...)
According to the geological context of its
place of discovery (a former alluvial fan), the
experts conclude that the meteorite dates back
to prehistoric times (Pleistocene intermediate
or advanced), probably before the formation
of the river. The object remained buried and
therefore survived through periods of history
where the demand for metals became greater.
It remained untouched by the documented
civilizations that had settled in the area(Neolithic, Roman, and Medieval), until its
relatively recent exhumation, which came
as a result of the continued digging in the
fields. Despite showing an irregular external
oxidation, the remains of the meteorite fusion
crust were generated during its entry into
Earths atmosphere, as were numerous surface
voids (regmaglypts) due to air friction.

The use of ruins
Over 2009 and 2010, I went on the
Teufelsberg hill, located in the former
West Berlin.
This seemingly natural hill, which has
been densely planted with forest, is actually
a hill constructed out of rubble. It is a
Trmmerberg, built out of the ruins
from the World War II bombings so as to
cleanse the city of its rubble. The peculiar
thing about the Teufelsberg hill is that it
covers the never completed Nazi Military-
Technical College, designed by Albert Speer,
author of the Theory of Ruin Value (Die
Ruinenwerttheorie). According to his theory,
the size at which buildings are built should
be blown out of proportion so that they
become beautiful ruins after hundreds orthousands of years, memories of past splendor
akin to ruins from the Roman Empire.
Between 2013 and 2014, I travelled to Belchite,
a village in Aragn, bombed during the civil
war between the 24th August and the 6th
September, 1937. Following this, the ruined
village was kept in its bombed state under
the Franco regime to be used as a soruce of
propaganda to denounce the red savagery.
Franco also offered the villages residents NewBelchite, a village built right next to the ruins.
This model village of the fascist regime was
built by the republican prisoners of Belchite
concentration camp, and was erected in
accordance with the militarys architectural
strategy. This village, as with many others that
were heavily bombed, was exemplified in the
program Servicio Nacional de Regiones
Devastadas y Reparaciones (National Service
of Devastated Regions and Repairs) that
offered an exhibition that toured throughout
Spain, showcasing models and plans of the
bombed villages and the future villages.
Ruinas (Die Ruinenwerttheorie). De acuerdo
con esta teora los edificios construidos
deberan tener proporciones desmesuradas

Hondakina(k)
2009 eta 2010 urte bitartean Teufelsbergeko
mendixkara joan nintzen, antzinako
mendebaldeko Berlin hirian kokatuta.
Mendixka hau itxuraz naturala, baso mardul
batez estalia, ordea, hondakinez sortutako
mendixka bat da, Trmmerberg bat,
Bigarren Mundu Gerraren bonbardaketen
ostean, hiriaren zaborra garbitzeko asmoz,
hondakinekin eraikitakoa. Teufelsbergeko
mendixkaren berezitasuna Akademia Teknico-
Militarra Nazia lurperatzea da, Albert Speer-
ek diseinatutakoa eta Hondakinen Balioaren
Teoriaren autorea baita (Die Ruinenwerttheorie).
Teoria honen arabera, eraikitako eraikinek
neurrigabezko proportzioak eduki beharko
lukete, ehundaka edo milaka urte geroago
hondakin ederrak izateko, iraganaren distirarenoroigarri, Erromak utzitako hondakinen
antzekoak.
2013 eta 2014 urte bitartean Belchitera
bidaiatu nuen, 1937ko abuztuaren 24
eta irailaren 6 bitartean gerra zibilean
bonbardatutako Aragoiko herria. Herriaren
hondakinak ukitu gabe gelditu ziren Francoren
erregimenarengandik, propaganda sinbolo
gisa, basakeri gorria salatzeko asmoz.
Francok honen hiritarrei Belchiteko HerriBerria eskaini zien, hondakinen ondoan
eraikitakoa. Erregimen faszistaren Herri
modeloa Belchiteko kontzentrazio zelaiako
preso errepublikanoek eraiki zuten, arkitektura
militarraren modeloak jarraituta. Belchite,
Servicio Nacional de Regiones Devastadas
y Reparaciones eko (Suntsitutako Herrialde
eta Kompoketen Nazioarteko zerbitzua)
bonbardeatutako beste herri askoren antzera,
Espainian bonbardeatuak izan ziren eta
herri berrien maketak eta planoak zutenen
erakusketa ibiltariaren parte zen.
