Nomination Requirements for “SERVICE TO SJV AWARDS”

On January 30, 2016, the SJV Foundation will host its annual Foundation Gala at Noto’s Old World Italian Restaurant. The event will again include presentation of the Service to SJV Awards. We would like to give you the opportunity to submit a nomination if you would like to do so. I. Description of the Awards The “Service to SJV Award” is given annually to the St. John Vianney employee or volunteer who has consistently served the SJV com-

munity in an extraordinary fashion or whose efforts during the past calendar year were exceptional. The “Lifetime Service to SJV Award” honors an individual who has provided a very unique level of service to the parish over a signifi-

cantly long period of time. The award recipient will be an individual who has essentially become a living part of the history of the parish. Because this award is truly unique, it may not be presented every year.

II. Selection Committee Nominations will be solicited from the parish. The award recipient(s) will be chosen from these nominations by the Selection Committee

using the selection criteria below as a guide. The Selection Committee will be comprised of the following:

The Pastor The School Principal A representative of: School Board; Foundation; Finance Council; Athletic Boosters; Foundation Gala Committee; Auction Com-

mittee; Festival Committee; Home & School; Faith Formation; Worship and Pastoral Care

IV. Criteria for Selection The following criteria will be considered by the Selection Committee when determining the award recipient: A significant history of service to the SJV community as a volunteer or employee over many years. A unique or extraordinary level of service to the SJV community in terms of the hours of work or service. Service as a chair, co-chair, or key committee member of a particularly important church, school or SJV community program or event. Assistance to the church, school or SJV community in addressing and resolving a particularly difficult issue, challenge or situation. Any other outstanding qualities or examples of service that uniquely contributed to the success of the SJV community. You may nominate one individual for the Service to SJV Award and one individual for the Lifetime service to SJV Award. To nominate, please prayerfully consider the selection criteria on the previous page and provide the following information. You may provide this information by sending an email to [email protected] (preferred) or by filling out a Nomination Form (available on-line) and dropping it in the nomination box with the SJV Foundation Gala logo in the back of the church. You may pick up a nomination form at the Parish Office or access it on our website www.stjohnvianney.net.

CATHOLIC SERVICES APPEAL 2015

The funds allocated annually to Catholic Charities West Michigan represent essential seed money that leverages significant additional outside revenue for our vital Social Service programs. This budget subsidy for Catholic Charities West Michigan includes support for counseling, family preservation, adoptions, child welfare services, and emergency needs. Your CSA gift helps support this critical assistance to those most in need.

To date 417 families, representing 31% of our parish households, have pledged $112,078 or 74% of our parish goal. We would like to have 100% participation.

Online gift giving and pledges can be completed at www.dioceseofgrandrapids.org/CSA. If you need assistance with this, come into the Parish Office and Patty or Emily can assist you.

Also keep in mind that any amount raised over our goal is returned to the parish, specifically this year it will go to the Faith in Our Future campaign. If you have returned your CSA card, thank you!

A Family Perspective ~ September 13, 2015

If we want to be happy at home we must commit (lose ourselves) to our family. If we try

to be independent from others (save ourselves) we end up lonely and alone. Happiness is

found in commitments. The Gospel is true: We save our life by losing it!

Morning Offering Prayer: O Jesus, through the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I offer you my prayers, works, joys, and sufferings of this day in union with the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass throughout the world. I offer them for all the intentions of your Sacred Heart: the salvation of souls, reparation for sin, and the reunion of all Christians. I offer them for the intentions of our bishops and of all Apostles of Prayer, and in particular for those recommended by our Holy Father this month.

The Pope asks us to pray for two intentions each month.

These are the intentions for September:

♦ Opportunities for the Young ~ That opportunities for educa-tion and employment may increase for all young people.

♦ Catechists ~ That catechists may give witness by living in a way consistent with the faith they proclaim.

Wedding Anniversary Mass – Together with your families, the Church in the Diocese of Grand Rapids honors the faithful witness to your vocation of marriage and wishes to celebrate with you. MISSION OF THE CHURCH -

Of her very nature, the Church is missionary. This means her members are called by God to bring the Gospel by word and deed to all peoples and to every situation of work, education, culture, and commu-nal life in which human beings find each other. The members of the Church seek to transform society not by power but by persuasion and by example.
