September 29th, 2019, Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time“You were well off during your lifetime, while Lazarus was in misery” Lk16:25Amos was a shepherd. When God called him to be a prophet, Amos did not forget the values of living in harmony with nature. The selfish ways of the rich disgusted him. They thought only of their own comfort and placed their trust in their wealth rather than in God. The prophet warned them that God would not allow their sinful-ness to remain unpunished. / Amos 6:1a, 4-7Today’s reading is the conclusion of the first letter to Timothy, a leader of the early Christian community. The writer, Paul, urges Timothy to serve others by practicing all the virtues; that means strengths that we see in Jesus. Timothy must “fight the good fight of faith” and be committed to the truth until the Lord comes again. / 1 Timothy 6:11-16In the last Sunday Gospel Jesus told us that we cannot give ourselves to God and money. In this Sunday’s Gospel Jesus is telling us the story of the rich man and Lazarus. In this way he reminds us that those who serve money will suffer from the eternal punishment like the rich man. And those who suffer will be given the eternal reward like Lazarus. / Lucas 16:19-31

Amós era un pastor. Cuando Dios lo llamó a profetizar él no olvidó los simples valores de vivir en armonía con la naturaleza. La vida egoísta de los ricos le disgus-taba. Los ricos pensaban sólo en su comodidad y ponían su confianza en su riqueza en vez de en Dios. El profeta les recordaba que Dios no permitiría que su pecado quedara impune. / Amós 6:1a, 4-7Esta lectura es la conclusión de la primera carta a Timoteo, un líder de la primera comunidad cristiana. Pablo le insta a servir a otros practicando todas las virtudes que vemos en Jesús. Timoteo debe “pelear la buena batalla de la fe” y comprometerse con la verdad hasta que el Señor regrese. / 1 Timoteo 6:11-16
En el Evangelio del último domingo, Jesús nos dijo que no se puede amar a Dios y al dinero. En el Evangelio de este domingo Jesús nos cuenta la historia del hombre rico y Lázaro. En esta manera él nos recuerda que los que sirven al dinero sufrirán la eterna condenación como el hombre rico. Y los que sufren, recibirán la recompensa eterna como Lázaro. / Lucas 16:19-31
