THE BUSH TELEGRAPH OCTOBER 2018NZDA AUCKLAND BRANCH: PROTECTING & PROMOTING HUNTING 2

PRESIDENT’S REPORTGreetings to all.

This month has been a sad one with the passing of a long-standing club member Graham Harrison. Graham enjoyed the social trips into northern Pureora and was known for his great story’s around the camp fire and from all accounts Graham was a very generous man who put a lot of time, effort and financial support into the club. An absolutely solid man with a very giving heart who will be missed dearly. Our condolences go out to Grahams family and friends.

This month we have the Wild Twins Serena and Amber as our guest speakers who are well known for their hunting and outdoor adventures. Come along and see what they have to say!

I would also like to thank the members of our club and those of other branches including the national executive and NZTF for their huge effort in helping rein in the recent proposed Tahr cull. It was great to see a large number of hunters banding together to make our voices heard. Although the Thar are the first species to be targeted, our

newly appointed conservation minister has much more on her agenda, including trout and all “Ungulates” as she mentioned at this year's NZDA national conference in Wellington. The fact we made our voices heard this time means we can do it again and hopefully will, with a few big motions from the minister to come, its important those of us who enjoy the NZ outdoors and its activities stand up for what we hold dear. This is vital to ensure we are able to continue what we do and keep our sport/hunting/fishing/food gathering or however you would refer to it for future generations.

With spring fast approaching it’s a good time to think about getting out to fill the freezer for those summer BBQs. Remember to plan and prepare for your trips as it makes for a much more enjoyable trip as well as ensuring the safety of yourself and others while on the hill. At our last club night we opened the floor to members to share their storys around safety and what can go wrong while out hunting. I personally felt this was a welcome and sobering reminder to all those who attended. Remember to think about what your are doing and identify your target beyond all doubt.

Happy and safe hunting.

Callum Sheridan, Auckland branch president.

CENTREFIRE AGGREGATE SHOOT 23RD SEPT.

49TH ANNUAL PRIZE SHOOT 9TH SEPT.

The weather forecast for the day looked good which was a bonus for the 67 shooters attending & having a go. The time spent on Saturday morning meant that we were able to get everything ready for the Sunday shoot. As usual there a very good variety of prizes laid out on the tables from which one could choose. I would like to say a big thanks to our sponsors for their generosity and to the club members who donated as well. The BBQ crew was kept busy through out the day.

As our prize shoot it as all about having a go, you do not have to be a top shot to compete. Our Prize shoots are a good social day and it was good to see many of the regular shooters there. To run a prize shoot well we need to have plenty of help

doing all the small tasks. I would like to thank all the club members who gave up their time to assist on the day and the help in getting the prizes in for the shoot. Thanks to David who organized his computer to log all the scores as this saved us a lot of time at the end of the day as we were out of the range be by 5.00pm.

We look forward in seeing you there again next year regardless of the weather conditions.

Please support our sponsors as listed in the BT.
