THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT First Reading: Exodus 3:1-8a, 13-15 Moses came upon a burning bush, when God called out to him. God told Moses that he had seen the suffering of his people in Egypt, and intended to lead them from their captors to a land of milk and honey. Moses asked what he should say if the Israelites should ask what God wished to be called. God replied, "I am who am." Second Reading: I Corinthians 10:1-6, 10-12 Paul describes how the people were led into the desert by Moses, yet many of them were struck down by God. He warns that this should serve as an example not to give in to wicked desires or we may suffer the same downfall. Gospel: Luke 13:1-9 Jesus says that an individual's misfortune does not mean that their sins were greater than someone else's. He warns that without repenting, all sinners will meet the same end. He tells of a barren fig tree whose owner planned to cut it down. But a servant offered to give it special care for one year, and destroy it should it remain barren. This symbolizes God's patience toward us.

Women’s Guild Our next WG meeting is scheduled for Monday, March 7th @ 6:30 p.m. in the St. Christopher Church Hall. Pope Francis has designated 2016 as the "Year of Mercy." He has requested that we reflect on & practice corporate and spiritual works of mercy so that we may "enter more deeply into the heart of the Gospel where the poor have a special experience of God's mercy." What better way to practice "Works of Mercy" than to help our Tiverton Seniors this Easter Season! The Women’s Guild has reached out to our Tiverton Sen-ior Center regarding this initiative & they are delighted! That being said, we will provide “Easter Gift Bags” to our Seniors. Suggested items include: postage stamps, all occasion cards, writing pens, toothpaste & tooth brushes, dental floss, Kleenex tissues, gift cards in small denominations (CVS, Rite-Aid, Stop & Shop, Wal-Mart etc.), books, un-scented hand or body lotion, and of course, assorted candy/goodies! Our goal is to make 30 Gift Bags for our Seniors who quite often are forgotten/overlooked. This is a small ges-ture that will provide smiles/happiness to them. Let us bring them the warmth of our presence and our friend-ship! Thank you all for your kindness & participation in this pro-ject! Kindly contact Pat Karp 816-5428 or Kary Miksis 585-6488 for questions.

LENTEN MISSION 2016

CATHOLIC CHARITY APPEAL Have you given prayerful consideration to your gift for the 2016 Catholic Charity Appeal? Won’t you help us by be-ing the “Hands of Christ” in supporting the people and the work of the Diocese of Providence? Many of you have responded to the CCFA mailing from Bishop Tobin. On behalf of those served by the min-istries and services funded by the CCFA, we thank you for your gifts. If you have not made a gift to this year’s Appeal, you will be able to do so through our In-Pew solicitation, which will take place on this weekend and next weekend. Feb. 27/28 and March 5/6. This weekend Feb. 27/28, 3rd year Seminarian Dan Mahoney from Our Lady of Providence Seminary will speak at all Masses. The goal of our parishes is to attain 100% participation – a goal that can only be reached with your sacrificial help and support. All gifts, regardless of size, help to make a difference in the lives of so many individuals.

Last Sunday was a very proud moment for our friend Fr. Luke Willenberg who graduated from Air Assault School. Congratulations and good luck. in his words… "Air Assault School graduation - I got an honor grad and established a new record of the school on 12 Mile Ruck March - 1h 42min 32sec (from 1h 49 that was unbeatable for a number of years). Over all it was a great experience. I met a lot of great people, learned a lot about proper planning, attention to details and suck-ing it up when things get rough. Some call the ASSLT school "The hardest 10 days in the Army" - well, it was a great Lenten Penance for me. I hope you are having a Holy Lent!" Please continue to pray for Fr. Luke and all who pro-tect our country.
