A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR
Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family,
Thank you to all the people who have
responded to our Anchors Aweigh
Campaign. We have had about 100 pledg-
es so far. I look forward to those yet to
come. We are blessed by all the good work
Melodie Harding did to put together our
promotional material with Anne West and
Jen Marsh.
Thanks also to Molly Pautz and the great
committee she assembled to pull off a
wonderful Tailgate Party. We had a nice
crowd who really enjoyed themselves. The
music was great. The food was awesome
and the kids had plenty to do with the
bouncy houses that were donated.
This next week, John, Feargal and I go back
to our Parish Catalyst Group to look at what
we have accomplished and where to go in
the future. Since Father Rubén is gone, we
will be without a priest until Thursday even-
ing this week. I ask your patience at daily
Mass with Communion services since there
was no one I could get to celebrate Mass.
Have a Blessed Week!
Father Paul
Barb Haffner, center, was honored at a
banquet last Sunday as Holy Apostles’ 2015
Woman of Inspiration, along with women
from other McHenry County parishes.

Lector Ministry Invites You Grow in knowledge of the Liturgy, share your gifts with
your parish and enhance your speaking skills by volun-
teering as a Lector during Mass. We invite you to attend
a training session on Saturday, October 3, at 2 PM.
The session should last about 2 1/2 hours and will be
held in the church. For further information contact Jim
O’Hagan at 815-385-4038.
Helping Hands Are Needed We are all so busy that we sometimes feel we have no
time to participate in any ministries at Holy Apostles,
but here we offer the opportunity of a valuable yet not
time-consuming ministry: be a “helping hand.” We have
many people in the parish who are at various times in
need of help. A nice home-cooked meal, a cake or cook-
ies, a ride to church or to the store would be so appreci-
ated by them. Would you be willing to volunteer to help
on an as-needed basis for the homebound or for special
events at church? Please contact Jeanne Fraser, Pasto-
ral Care office, at 815-385-5673, x 124, or jfraser@
Thechurchofholyapostles.org.
Take Part in Public Square Rosary All are invited to take part in praying for our nation at a
Public Square Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 10, at
noon at Veterans Memorial Park, Pearl & Court Streets.
Our nation is in great need of prayers—let’s pray together.
Holy Apostles Mission Day—October 17 Many of us would love to reach out and be the face of
God by serving others in need but are unable to take a
mission trip to do so. Mission Day is an opportunity for
everyone to serve people in our community just for a day.
Set aside Saturday, October 17, to work on a team of
parish members to give a hand to
someone who needs assistance
maintaining their homes. Register
online on the parish website or pick
up a form in the narthex.
Are you or do you know someone in
our community (need not be parish
members) who needs help at their
home with cleaning, yard work/
landscaping, painting, or light electrical, plumbing or con-
struction repairs? Let us add your needs to our “to do”
list on Mission Day. (We cannot guarantee that all re-
quests for help will be met.) Contact Joe Filpi at 815-
385-5673 or [email protected] with your
requests for help.
Jesus’ Greatest Expression of Love... ...is the Divine Eucharist. Take a little time each week to
visit Jesus in the Divine Eucharist in the All Saints Perpet-
ual Adoration Chapel. and thank Him and be refreshed. Pray,
listen, and feel the peace that He gives us so lovingly.
Take a break from your busy life to acknowledge His com-
forting love. Jesus will bless you, your family, and the
whole world for this hour of faith you
spend with Him in the Blessed Sacrament.
Please pray about committing to one of
these open times:
Monday: 8:30 to 9 AM
Tuesday: 4 to 5 PM
Wednesday: 2 to 3 PM
Friday: 2 to 3 PM
Call Mike Thielsen at 815-385-8562 to commit your time.
Adoration Ministry Meeting Scheduled Everyone is highly encouraged to attend a meeting of
current, past, visiting and interested Adorers at our
All Saints Adoration Chapel on Tuesday, October 20, at 7
PM in Sherry Center. For more information about the
meeting and/or about becoming an Adorer, please contact
Mike Thielsen at 815-385-8562 or [email protected].
Offer Your Intentions with Candles Four large candles surround the Blessed Sacrament in
the All Saints Perpetual Adoration Chapel, each burning
for 14 days. Request your own personal intentions for
their duration by contacting the Parish Office. The suggested
donation is $15 per candle. From September 27 through
October 10 with these candles, your prayers have been
requested by Debbie Welter, Belen Cervantes and the
Community of Holy Apostles..
A group of Holy Apostles’ staff enjoyed a fun afternoon
last Tuesday of lunch outdoors followed by bowling!
We Share Our Blessings This week, our Parish Tithe will be given to the Saint
Vincent de Paul Society.
Annual Blessing of Animals Our pets are beloved members of our
families. Bring them to receive a
blessing next Sunday, October 4, at
11:30 AM outside near the gazebo in
the Sherry Center parking lot.
Your Prayers and Gifts Help Needy Many of us, at one time or another, have needed to live
paycheck-to-paycheck. Do you remember how one large
bill could throw off your entire budget, leaving you unable to
pay for necessities? The St. Vincent de Paul Society often
helps people in just such a circum-
stance. A higher-than-usual elec-
tric bill left a middle-aged woman
unable to pay for her needed pre-
scription. Thanks to your generosi-
ty to the poor box and SVdPS, this
medicine was purchased and prayers shared with this
thankful individual. This is my commandment, that you
love one another as I have loved you. John 15:12
Be Part of McHenry Area Life Chain Stand with thousands of pro-lifers throughout the US by
being part of the local Life Chain on Sunday, October 4,
2:30 to 3:30 PM, on Richmond Rd. (Rt. 31) and Rt. 120,
in front of St. Mary’s Church, rain or shine. Please arrive
by 2:15 PM. Approved signs will be available at St. Mary’s.
Please remember this is a quiet time of prayer for the
protection of all preborn babies and an end to abortion
so come early to get a sign and say hello before the hour
of silence begins. Bring the whole family and a chair if
you cannot stand. Visit LifeChain.net for details.
Baby Bottle Collection Did you miss the Baby Bottle collection in Lent? Holy
Apostles’ Respect Life Ministry will hold a Baby Bottle
collection starting after Masses on October 3/4, which
is Respect Life Sunday, with the bottle distribution, and
ending after Masses the weekend of October 24/25
with the bottle collection. As
in previous years, at least
50% of the money collected
will be donated to 1st Way
Pregnancy Support
Services, with up to 50% of
the money collected sup-
porting the costs of the Respect Life Ministry. Please
contact Cynthia Heimsoth at 815-245-9813 or
[email protected] or any member of the
Respect Life Ministry for more information.

ping for apples and other sweets/gifts at

will carpool from church, leaving at 9:30 AM. Please call
Barb Haffner at 815-385-7479 by October 8 if you plan
attending and tell her if you are willing to be a driver.
Dementia Discussion Group to Meet Do you have someone you love who is suffering from
some stage of dementia? There are many types of de-
mentia, but it generally involves problems with thinking
or memory. The purpose of this meeting will be to talk
with one another and share stories about your loved
one with dementia. We all can learn from one another.
All are welcome: family members, the person with de-
mentia, the caregiver, friends and anyone who wants to
know more about this condition. Our first meeting will be
Wednesday, October 14, (please note this corrected

wife has dementia. For more information contact

will be combining to present two epic concerts of Sacred
Contemporary Music to celebrate our respective exist-

along with our Children's Choirs and the various ethnic
nationalities (Spanish, Polish and Filipino) represented
in our communities. A little Irish may show up too! Mark

Prayerfully Consider a Cursillo Weekend Cursillo (pronounced kur-see-yo) is a Spanish word
meaning “little” or “short course.” The Cursillo weekend
begins on Thursday night and ends on Sunday evening.
Candidates attending live and work together listening to
talks given by religious and lay people to gain a deeper
awareness of their faith. The goal of the Cursillo week-
end is to form small Christian communities or groups
that meet weekly to help us with being accountable in
our faith lives and to help to accomplish the mission of
the Church. It is a blend of seriousness, light hearted-
ness, spiritual exercises, talks and discussions and is
presented in an atmosphere of joy and song. The whole
point of the Cursillo movement is that ordinary people
can steadily grow in love and service of God and man for
the rest of their lives. Christian growth is not easy, but
the Cursillo weekend provides a framework for it, both
during the three days and afterwards.
