NEXT SUNDAY: our parish will take up the annual collection
for Black and Indian Missions. Our financial contribution helps
to support Catholic American Indian communities on
reservations, in rural areas and inner cities. The collection also
supports African American evangelization programs particularly
in the south. Let us unite ourselves with the love of Christ in
supporting this collection with generous hearts.
2012 CATHOLIC CHARITIES APPEAL: begins today. This
is not a “special collection” but a request to make a pledge to
support the ministries and services provided by Catholic
Charities. This year’s theme is “I am Catholic.” We ask you to
consider the blessings God has given to you as well as the good
we can accomplish when we act with the unity and strength of our
faith. Over 300,000 people in Northeast Ohio benefit from the
programs and services of Catholic Charities each year. Please
pray for the success of this important appeal and consider a gift.
Dear fellow parishioners:
In these last couple of weeks we have seen an unprecedented attack on religious liberty in this country. The
government seeks to impose mandatory provision of insurance requirements for religious organizations that would force us
to go against the teachings of the church and our consciences. To paraphrase Archbishop Dolan, it is not about whether
or not one agrees with the teaching of the church but about whether the government has the ability to interfere with one of
the most fundamental rights we have as Americans, freedom of religion. I would urge you to write, call and email your
elected representatives and make your voice heard on this extremely crucial issue. The Catholic Church does not support
parties or individual candidates; however this is an issue that affects our entire church and society. We need to speak out,
now is the time! If you need more information on this please visit the Diocese of Cleveland web site
www.dioceseofcleveland.org or the US Catholic Bishops web site www.usccb.org.
Peace,
Deacon Bruce

your Lenten Journey and prepare you for the Holy Days of Easter.

will be providing refreshments. If you are able to help bake, please

LENT: Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59 are obliged to fast
on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. In addition, all Catholics 14
years old and older must abstain from meat on Ash Wednesday, Good
Friday and all the Fridays of Lent. Fasting as explained by the U.S.
bishops means partaking of only one full meal. Some food (not
equaling another full meal) is permitted at breakfast and around
midday or in the evening—depending on when a person chooses to eat
the main or full meal.
THE BIBLE STUDY AND MORE MINISTRY: meets every
Sunday (except Doughnut Sunday) at 9:30am in the Church Hall. We
are doing a six-week book study with our new book Rediscover
Catholicism. Please read pages 145-228 to be prepared for session
four. If you have not been able to attend the past sessions, please feel
free to join us now. One of the questions we will discuss is, "What
insight from this chapter made you rethink your attitude toward
confession?"
