General Membership Meeting Minutes - March

The regular monthly meeting of the Liberty Region Corvette Club was held on Thursday March 13, 2014 the Chief Regent being in the chair the Secretary being present at 7:32 p.m. The meeting was called to order after the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence by the Sergeant at Arms with 51 members present. Minutes: Ron moved the minutes be approved as published in the Vette Gazette. Motion passed. Membership: we currently have 101 members. Treasurer: The treasurer’s report was presented by Ron. Jon moved the treasurer’s report be accepted as read. Motion passed. Charity: Fred noted our three main charities; American Cancer Society via Corvettes Conquer Cancer, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The National Corvette Museum. In addition we support other charities throughout the year. If the membership has any suggestions for different chari-ties; Jack suggested the Wounded Warriors program. Club store: There are some free items available on the table. Website: Mike reported that everything is up to date on the website. Marketing: Ed reported that Paul F. will assist in marketing and Ed is working on a potential new sponsor. If any members have any leads, please contact Ed or Paul. Vette Gazette: Nothing new to report. Shows: Jack reported that Delaware Valley Fire Co. will not require our assistance for their show this year. Newtown has decided not to do a car show in conjunction with Summer Fest this year. They would rather do an all car car show at a different time, possibly last summer or early fall. Jack is also pursuing a show at bowling lanes near Fred. Ron from Contemporary Corvettes is assisting in finding a location for our annual show. Empire Covers would like to have a show too. The main problem is finding a location for these shows. Activities: Bowling, St. Patrick’s Day party at Caritaville, Rails & Rods show, Go Carts, Memo-rial Day Parade followed by a picnic at Caritaville. Oaks show is next week. Jack submitted the application for the Doylestown Memorial Day Parade. We will only getting 100 Football Mania tickets this year. NCM: Nothing to report. Safety: Jon talked about the CPR course with will be conducted at Taranovas on Sunday, April 27. There will be 2 classes on that date with 12 students per class. Unfinished Business: Ed talked about the cost of the banquet and how much the club needs for the year. The cost of the banquet this year will be $55.00 per person. In November, the Board will go over our financial situation and if there is a surplus, we will let the membership decide if all or a portion of that money should be used to offset the cost of the banquet. Rick C. ques-tioned the cost and wondered if we had investigated other locations for the banquet. He men-tioned that at his other club, they have a late holiday party so that do not pay holiday prices. Their party at a fire house was less than $55.00 and had an open bar. Ed requested that Rick bring us the information and we will look into it for 2015. We are committed to the Blair Mill Inn for 2014. There are also the liability concerns with having an open bar. New Business: Empire Covers needs a car for the NY car show. If interested contact Ed. 50/50 – Janet Studer Meeting adjourned at 7:59 P.M. Fred Steinouer, Secretary

HUMOR

A group of 15-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Dairy Queen, next door to the Ocean View restaurant, because they had only $6.00 among them and Brad Johnson, the cute boy in Social Studies, lived on that street. 10 years later, the group of 25-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the beer was cheap, the restaurant offered free snacks, the band was good, there was no cover charge, and there were lots of cute guys. 10 years later, the group of 35-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the cosmos were good, it was right near the gym and, if they went late enough, there wouldn't be too many whiny little kids. 10 years later, the group of 45-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the martinis were big, and the waiters wore tight pants and had nice buns. 10 years later, the group of 55-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the prices were reasonable, the wine list was good, the restaurant had windows that opened (in case of hot flashes), and they served fish which is good for your cholesterol. 10 years later, the group of 75-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because the food was not too spicy, and the restaurant was handicapped-accessible 10 years later, the group of 85-year-old girlfriends discussed where to meet for dinner. Finally, they agreed to meet at the Ocean View restaurant, because they had never been there before.

CLUB INFORMATION

Caravan Safety Guidelines All participants should arrive at designated meeting area at assigned time. Arrive with a full tank of gas. Bring a “two-way” radio tuned to channel 6 and tone 14. Listen at the drivers meeting and be ready to leave on time. Advise event leader if you are meeting the group somewhere else. Event leader should lead group. Event leader should have directions and maybe a map to give everyone. Event leader should also go over any safety precautions. The planned route should allow for rest stops. Event leader should supply all participants with everyone’s cell number. Prior to leaving the leader should break the group into smaller groups which will be easier for travel and move-ment control. Each group should have a leader, a tail car at end, and maybe a middle car. The leader, middle car, and tail car should have two passengers, so that it is easier to work the “two-way radio” and/or cell phone. The middle car and tail car should keep the leader informed as to what is going on behind him, i.e. if someone is caught at a light, etc. It is important to be aware of what is going on in front of you, not just the car that’s directly in front of you. The group will usually travel in the center or right lane with driving lights on for safety and identification. When traveling in a congested area, you will probably become separated. The leader will stay in contact with the tail car and decide whether to pull over or slow down until everyone catches up. If you have car trouble pull over and the tail car will pull over with you and pass on this information to the leader. They can decide if the rest of the group will pull over or continue on. The car in front of the tail car should become the new tail car. The leader will be supplied with a small box which will contain: A Road side maintenance assistance kit (flashlight, flares, etc.), two Medical kits and spare portable radios.

On the other side you will find a survey sheet for the activities I am planning for our road trip in September. Please circle the “X” by the activities you'd like to participate in. This will help immensely in the planning of these activities. At a later date I will be collecting money for these planned activities as was done for St Michaels. This particular survey is to see what interest there is in these various meals and activities. Here is a brief summary of our current itinerary: Since we will only travel on 2 roads (The PA Turnpike Northeast Extension and Rt 6) on the way up there will be no need for formal groups as was the case with St Michaels. Each car can travel individually or in an informal group. In either case we will all start by meeting at the Allentown Service Plaza of the PA Turnpike at 9:30 am on Friday, September 5th. We will have a drivers meeting to discuss that day's travel plans and then leave the service plaza to head towards the end of the PA TPK Northeast Extension at Rt 6. After exiting the Turnpike we will travel on Rt 6 west to the Perkins Restaurant in Tunkhannock, PA. It is there we will stop for lunch at around noon. From Perkins we will continue to travel west on Rt 6 to our hotel, the Coach Stop Inn. Dinner that evening will either be free LRCC pizza or you may choose to dine at the Coach Stop Inn's Restaurant (Friday night they feature a fish fry). Saturday morning we will take a covered wagon tour of the Grand Canyon. Satur-day afternoon we will have a full lunch on a scenic train ride through Tioga County. After the train ride there will be free time to explore Wellsboro or one of the many other local attractions. Dinner on Saturday evening will be wherever you'd like. After dinner we can all gather and party at the Hospitality House. The Hos-pitality House (a 3-bedroom Rancher) is available to all of us all weekend. On Sunday there will be a caravan over scenic mountain roads to Corning NY and their famous glass museum. We can arrive around noon, lunch in the museum’s cafe then go for a guided tour of the museums many attractions at 1 pm. Sunday evening will feature a BBQ/Picnic put on by our Hotel. Monday is our travel day home
