SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OH Thursday, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. This feast reminds us that Mary was conceived without original sin. Mary, under the title of The Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States of America. The largest church in our country is the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in Washington, D.C. Since this is such an important celebration in our country this feast day is always a HOLY DAY OF OBLGATION no matter what day it happens to fall. So, we, as Catholics, are to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass under the pain of mortal sin. Please remember that it is a serious sin to deliberately miss Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation. This means that one must go to confession before receiving Holy Communion. Please see the bulletin for the Mass schedule. This is the Second Sunday of Advent and I hope that you have taken the time to register online to have the best Advent ever. Simply go to the web site BestAdventEver.com and you can sign up for daily emails that will help you and your family to make this Advent a time of prayer and reflection. I urge everyone to use the FORMED web site too where you will find many great resources for the whole family. Please take some time and check it out. Our parish code is 2QC77G. I want to thank Philip Teague for the wonderful job he did presenting the FORMED program last Sunday and for all his work chairing the committee that worked very hard to implement this resource for our parish family. May God bless you all for your efforts. There are many ways that we can truly make the best of this holy season both as individuals and as families. We should think about possibly attending Mass a few extra times during the week, making visits to the Blessed Sacrament or signing up for a Holy Hour once a week, make sure that we receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (our parish communal Penance Service is on Monday, December 12, at 7 PM), spend more time in prayer as a family by praying the Rosary together a few times a week or even every day after supper, and we can always make the added effort to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The idea is to do things that keep us focused on the presence of Christ in our midst and not let ourselves get caught up in all the anxious activity that this season seems to generate in the world. Everything does not have to get done by December 24 th of 25 th . Sending cards and giving gifts might be better left so that they arrive during the Christmas Season, which is 12 days long just like the Christmas carol tells us. I always send my Christmas cards out so that they are received during the 12 days of Christmas. There does not have to be a “Christmas rush” if we don’t want to buy into the ways of the world. It is sad to think that most, if not all, Christmas Parties are held during the Advent Season and not the Christmas Season. Think about how you and your family will spend the Season of Advent. Try to make it a season of prayer and preparation for the coming of Christ by welcoming Him more deeply into your life all the year round. Try to make the Christmas Season a time when we really celebrate the birth of Christ with 12 days of rejoicing. Maybe we cannot change everything at one time, but just try to make a change or two every year until you are celebrating Advent in the way it is meant to be celebrated and celebrate Christmas WHEN it should really be celebrated. I pray that you and your family will have a holy and prayerful Advent this year. KITCHEN RENOVATION: We are going to be doing some renovations in the church kitchen during the month of January. We will be putting in new cabinets, counter tops, appliances, flooring, etc. The kitchen gets a lot of use by various groups in the parish. It is used a great deal for the funeral meals. This is a beautiful ministry done by the Altar and Rosary Society to help families in a time of loss and grief. I hope that the renovation does not cause anyone any inconvenience. The work should be completed by the end of January. Of course, such a project does have a cost so if anyone is interested in helping out with the cost, please let me know. Any help is always greatly appreciated.

SACRED HEART WADSWORTH, OH

Thursday, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception of Mary. This

feast reminds us that Mary was conceived without original sin. Mary, under the title of

The Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States of America. The

largest church in our country is the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, in

Washington, D.C.

Since this is such an important celebration in our country this feast day is always a HOLY DAY OF

OBLGATION no matter what day it happens to fall. So, we, as Catholics, are to participate in the Holy

Sacrifice of the Mass under the pain of mortal sin. Please remember that it is a serious sin to deliberately

miss Mass on Sundays and holy days of obligation. This means that one must go to confession before receiving Holy Communion. Please see the bulletin for the Mass schedule.

This is the Second Sunday of Advent and I hope that you have taken the time to register online to have the

best Advent ever. Simply go to the web site BestAdventEver.com and you can sign up for daily emails that

will help you and your family to make this Advent a time of prayer and reflection. I urge everyone to use the

FORMED web site too where you will find many great resources for the whole family. Please take some time and check it out. Our parish code is 2QC77G.

I want to thank Philip Teague for the wonderful job he did presenting the FORMED program last Sunday

and for all his work chairing the committee that worked very hard to implement this resource for our parish

family. May God bless you all for your efforts.

There are many ways that we can truly make the best of this holy season both as individuals and as families.

We should think about possibly attending Mass a few extra times during the week, making visits to the

Blessed Sacrament or signing up for a Holy Hour once a week, make sure that we receive the Sacrament of

Reconciliation (our parish communal Penance Service is on Monday, December 12, at 7 PM), spend more time in prayer as a family by praying the Rosary together a few times a week or even every day after

supper, and we can always make the added effort to help those less fortunate than ourselves. The idea is to

do things that keep us focused on the presence of Christ in our midst and not let ourselves get caught up in

all the anxious activity that this season seems to generate in the world. Everything does not have to get done

by December 24th of 25th. Sending cards and giving gifts might be better left so that they arrive during the

Christmas Season, which is 12 days long just like the Christmas carol tells us. I always send my Christmas cards out so that they are received during the 12 days of Christmas. There does not have to be a “Christmas

rush” if we don’t want to buy into the ways of the world. It is sad to think that most, if not all, Christmas

Parties are held during the Advent Season and not the Christmas Season.

Think about how you and your family will spend the Season of Advent. Try to make it a season of prayer and preparation for the coming of Christ by welcoming Him more deeply into your life all the year round.

Try to make the Christmas Season a time when we really celebrate the birth of Christ with 12 days of

rejoicing. Maybe we cannot change everything at one time, but just try to make a change or two every year

until you are celebrating Advent in the way it is meant to be celebrated and celebrate Christmas WHEN it

should really be celebrated. I pray that you and your family will have a holy and prayerful Advent this year.

KITCHEN RENOVATION: We are going to be doing some renovations in the church kitchen during the

month of January. We will be putting in new cabinets, counter tops, appliances, flooring, etc. The kitchen

THE PARISH ADVENT

will be Monday, December 12, at 7:00 p.m. There will be a number of

WHAT IS OPLATKI? Polish, Slovak, and

Lithuanian background

families originally ob-

served this Christmas

tradition, but it has

become a tender,

touching family cele-

bration of love and forgiveness for all families.

Oplatki wafers [a thin Communion-like wafer

stamped with a Christmas scene] are shared

right before the Christmas Eve meal. The entire

family gathers around the table and the eldest

family member begins the ritual. The Oplatki is

passed from person to person along with a wish

and a kiss, symbolizing the giving and sharing in

our lives. OPLATKI [Angel Bread] will be availa-

ble for a donation at the East and Sacristy

entrances to the church December 11 and 18.

Please leave your donation in the red bag pro-

vided.

PLEASE REMEMBER IN

YOUR PRAYERS the family

and friends of Bill Jurey and

James Long who died recently.

May our Lord grant them eternal

rest in His heavenly kingdom.
