FUNDRAISING UPDATE Congratulations Lumen Christi students! You have earned a spirit wear day due to the amount collected from our Box Tops for Education collection. We are happy to report that we earned $567 from the Box Tops Collection and over $50 from our Milk Cap Collection. A grand total of $617. Don’t forget that you can shop using the www.boxtops4education.com/marketplace website to earn more money for our school. Stores include: Barnes and Noble, Best Buy, I Tunes, JC Penny, Justice, Kohl’s, Macy’s, Lands End, Nordstrom, Old Navy, Sears, and many more. The Spirit Wear day will be set soon!

PLACEMENT REQUESTS The school administration, in cooperation with the classroom teachers, is responsible for the student classroom placement assignments. Many factors are considered when determining classroom placements, including student ability levels, academic strengths and challenges, processing skills, special education needs, personalities, friendships, maturity levels, past and present conflicts and resolutions, growth and development, teacher-student relationships, student to student relationships, gender influences, birthdates, birth order, etc. The teachers and administration of the school make all placement decisions with the students’ best interest in mind. Any educational concerns need to be submitted in writing to Mrs. Fyfe no later than April 19th. Specific teacher requests will not be accepted. THE MISSION IS COMING! THE MISSION IS COMING! MARCH 4, 5, AND 6! All school families are invited to attend this parish event. We will begin each night with a simple meal, followed by a presentation with a guest speaker, Rich Curran. Rich will guide us through three nights of prayer, reflection, discussion, and celebration as we explore who we are as God’s children and how we want to “IGNITE THE LIGHT” in our parishes, our school, our homes and our hearts! PLEASE visit www.lumenchristiparish.org and follow the mission link from the front page to learn more about each meal and all of the other details of each night. MARKET DAY DESSERT BONUS DAYS ARE HERE - HELP OUR SCHOOL EARN A SPIRIT WEAR DAY! Don't forget to order Dessert during the Dessert Bonus Days this month at Market Day. The more desserts purchased, the more our school can earn! The fundraising committee is setting a school wide goal of 100 desserts purchased. If we reach this goal, Mrs. Hauke has agreed to give the school a Spirit Wear Day (date to be determined)! These desserts are great for the holidays (think Easter), First Communion, birthdays, and make great hostess gifts too! Market Day Orders are due in the school office by 3:00 on Friday, March 2nd. If you are ordering online, orders are due by 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3rd. Order pick up is scheduled for Wednesday, March 7th from 3-4 at the LCM cafeteria. You can go directly to the Market Day website to order. If you are a new customer ordering online, use the code FIVEOFF to save $5 off a $25 order at www.marketday.com. Questions? email Katie Hartzheim at [email protected]. ORIENTATION TO 4TH GRADE It is hard to believe that we are already preparing for the 2012-2013 school year. March 1, 2012 Dear Interested Track Participants, We hope everyone is excited to begin the track season! The coaches this year will be Wendy Kennedy and Andy Starsky. In order to complete registration for track, we need the registration form/t-shirt order form completed and a track sports fee of $40.00. If your child has not competed in a sport at Lumen Christi this year, it will be necessary to go to the school website, print, fill out, and turn in the Archdiocese Athletic Forms. It is imperative that we get these returned so that the track t-shirts are able to be ordered and completed before our first meet. Please have these turned in by March 16, 2012. Practice will begin March 27. We will have practices on Tuesdays and Fridays. The times of the practices will be communicated as soon as we have confirmed availability of the Homestead track. The practice and meet schedule are being finalized. When this finalizes, we will be sending out a parent volunteer helper sign up sheet. We had about 60 kids last year and may have that many this year as well. We are looking forward to a great season. Please direct any questions to Wendy Kennedy (262-238-8659 or [email protected]) or Andy Starsky ([email protected]) Sincerely, Wendy Kennedy & Andy Starsky

SCHOOL COUNCIL UPDATE

March 1, 2012

We’re currently working on addressing the concerns raised during the January 12th School Forum

regarding our middle school model. We decided we needed feedback from teachers, parents,

and 6th grade students to help us to figure out what issues need to be addressed, as well as what

has worked well. A parent follow-up meeting was held on February 15th. A teacher survey is

currently being created and distributed, and parent/student surveys will be conducted following

the teacher survey.

The plan is to review the initial feedback regarding the middle school model at the March 8th

School Council meeting.

Anyone interested in becoming more involved and informed about this sub-committee can

contact Sheila Dunne at [email protected] .

Education Quality Assurance Committee Update

We’re focused on strengthening the relationship between our School and the Parish and the Catholic Formation ministry. Several activities are planned to achieve this:

- The hands from school children and Catholic Formation will be posted in the shape of a candle to promote the mission. See it at both campuses!

- The 1st graders from school and Catholic Formation will be gathering the people on the first night of the mission.

- The 8th grade school students will be helping with the dinner on the 3rd night of the mission. - We’re working on a joint service project between the school children and Catholic

Formation. - We’re facilitating an idea exchange between teachers and catechists.

Please contact Michelle Correa at [email protected] with any questions or to get involved.

Faith Formation Committee Update

Next School Council Meeting is March 8 at 6:30pm in Dominiak Hall

Questions or feedback on this communication, please contact Kim Althaus at [email protected]
