Public invited to Lunch ’n Learn Series

Family and friends celebrated Mother’s Day with a Springtime Afternoon Tea. They wore their best spring hat and outfit and enjoyed a variety of tea sandwiches, scones, and confections with a classic cup of tea served in a dainty cup.

The next session in the series—Staging and Prepping Your Home to Sell—is Tuesday, June 10 at 11 am.

Real estate expert Sandy Kokoruda will share tips on how to present a home and will show how these adjustments can help sell a home quickly and for the best price. There will be time for questions after the presentation.

The no-charge event includes lunch, but people need to call to RSVP by Friday, June 6. (Tours available upon request.)

The final two sessions are June 24 and July 8. The next June session is Making Choices in the Downsizing Process with organizing specialist Donna Tennison of Trio Estate Sales. On July 8, Touchmark Life Enrichment/Wellness Director Nanette Holmes and a Touchmark Resident Panel will present Changing the Way We Age.

Raise your teacup!

In addition to regular pet visits, several Touchmark residents have dogs. For example, Donna Miskovich and her canine friend Max live at Touchmark. They love greeting people and thrive on the activity. “I like that Max is small enough to sit on my lap,” says Donna of the Chihuahua-Yorkie mix who is an energetic 21 months old.

Beth Berg’s Pomeranian/Lhasa Apso mix—Finn McCoy—is 2 years old. “Finn is a wonderful companion” says Beth, “although he does have a bit of ‘Big Dog Syndrome!’”

CAPTURING DELIGHT{FULL} MOMENTS

Research on cognition and memory is finding that people who participate in more mentally stimulating activities have a slower rate of decline in memory (Wilson, et al, 2013, Journal of Neurology). Apps and websites like Fit Brains, Lumosity, Tetris, Sudoku2 all work on your computer, tablet device, or smart phone. Touchmark recently conducted a webinar with team members

that covered cutting-edge ideas for activities and cognitive stimulation. We now are working to develop programming throughout Touchmark communities that takes advantage of this technology for enhancing memory.

If you own or intend to purchase a computer, tablet, or smart phone and would like to participate in learning how to use it, please let us know. Also, if you have a favorite website or app that helps build the brain, please send an email to [email protected]. Let’s learn together what can benefit all of us as we exercise our brains and boost memory.

Do you have a computer, iPad, or smart phone?

The Touchmark Easter Egg Hunt helped raise money for the Angel Fund, which assists school children with needed classroom supplies and clothing. Touchmark donated $650 to the nonprofit. For the event, residents prepared more than 6,000 Easter eggs filled with various prizes for children to find throughout the Touchmark property. The families attending also received a lunch, and many contributed to the Angel Fund. Touchmark on Saddle Drive and Mountain West Bank cosponsored the annual Easter Egg Hunt and lunch.
