Trinity Catholic Primary School is committed to providing an education that develops the whole person.
We believe that the social, emotional, moral, spiritual and physical wellbeing of our students
is pivotal to student health, safety, learning and success.
Dear Parents,
The theme of Transformation is captured in this
week’s newsletter. In its simplest terms ‘to
transform’ means to change something usually for
the better. At Trinity we are continually striving ‘to
transform’ the ways we do things – we are
continually striving to improve and to make the
learning experiences for our students to be the best
they can be. Last week, on Thursday morning,
Simon and I, invited parents to share in an Open
Conversation - coffee and chat in our new library
space. The Portable, which originally was the Music
room, has been transformed into a welcoming and
engaging Library. Our conversation with parents,
in the new library space, focused on our building
and the building works, our ideas around the Design Discovery Technology and
Performing Arts centre, the work teachers are doing in their Data Room and through
their Professional Learning days using SPA (Student Performance Analyser), updates to
our Policies in line with the Child Safe Standards and Ministerial Order 870, and a sneak
peak of photos the new Marian building. We thank the parents who attended for their
questions, contributions and participation in the Open Learning Conversation.
Confirmation Reflection Day
Today, our Confirmation candidates are participating in a Confirmation Reflection Day at
Saint Francis Xavier College, Beaconsfield. This is a time for our students who are
making their Confirmation to reflect on and re-contextualise the gifts of the Holy Spirit
at work in their lives today. We look forward to hearing of their learning experiences
and wish our Confirmation Candidates all the very best as they prepare to welcome the
Holy Spirit to transform their lives.
Pyjama Day
Our uniform was transformed in to flannelettes, onesies, fluffy slippers, sleep masks,
just to name a few of the wonderful array of pyjamas worn to our Pyjama day. Photos
celebrating this day and the fundraising efforts for the heART Project and Special Kids
are included in the newsletter.
Marian Building updates
We await in eager anticipation as the final touches to the Marian building take place.
The transformation of this learning area into a contemporary, light filled 21st century
learning space is almost finished and we are on track to begin our move into the Marian
building next week. More information about the details of the move will be finalised
once we have formal notification from the builders regarding the certificate of
occupancy.
Welcome back Miss Johnston
We welcome back Miss Donna Johnston 1J from World Youth Day. In next week's
newsletter, Donna will share her experiences of celebrating World Youth Day in Kraków.
We look forward to sharing this amazing journey with her.
District Athletics Day
Tomorrow, Mrs Charman and selected Year 4, 5 and 6 students will be attending the District Athletics -
congratulations to the students attending, and in the spirit of the Olympic games, we hope a few gold
medals come their way.
Student Free Day – Staff Professional Learning
Monday 15th August, is a student free day as Trinity staff will be attending Session 3 of our SPA – Student
Performance Analyser Professional Learning Day at St. John's Koo Wee Rup focusing on Learning
Intentions, Success Criteria and writing quality assessment pieces to transform student learning. We look
forward to continuing our work with Philip Holmes-Smith on analysing our student data in line with the
new Victorian Curriculum learning outcomes.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS
Confirmation Reflection Day
Today students from Grade 5 and 6 gathered together with the neighbouring parish schools to participate
in the Confirmation Reflection Day. This was held at St Francis Xavier Beaconsfield and was organised by
the Year 11 students completing their Religion and Society Unit. The students participated in a variety of
activities that required them to extend and reflect upon their own faith, allowing them to grow closer to
God. The day also enabled them to learn more about the Sacrament of Confirmation and provided an
opportunity for the students to ask any questions they may have. I would like to thank Mrs Cassar, Miss
Edmanson, Mrs Cherry and Mrs Wells who attended the day to support the students. Your assistance was
greatly appreciated.
Bishops’ Visit – 26th August
On Friday 26th August at 10:30am, Bishop Patrick O’Regan will be
visiting Trinity to meet and speak to all the students preparing to receive
the Sacrament of Confirmation in September this year. We warmly invite
all families who have a child preparing for Confirmation to join us on this
day.
The Assumption of the Mary
Monday 15th August
Next Monday the Catholic Church will celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of Mary.
On this feast day we celebrate a special favour that God gave to Mary, our Mother.
The Assumption means that Mary was taken up into the glory of heaven not only
with her soul, but also with her body. Jesus, the Son of God was born from Mary's
pure womb. So when Mary died, God the Father and Jesus, would not let the body of
the Mother of God be spoilt. This was her reward for her love of God and her years
of faithful prayers and suffering. Now Mary is in heaven. She is queen of heaven and
earth. She is the Mother of Jesus' Church and queen of Apostles. Every time Mary
asks Jesus to give us graces, he listens to her request.
As we celebrate the feast day of Mary, we can ask our Blessed Mother Mary to
guide, protect and care for us.
The Parish of Our Lady Help of Christians warmly invites all families to attend a special
Eucharistic celebration at the Church on Monday 15th August at 10am. This is a School Closure
Day for Trinity students.

Pyjama Day – Tuesday 9th August
Yesterday the SRC and Social Justice Leaders orgainsed a successful Pyjama Day for all the
students at Trinity. The day raised money for two important family centred charities; The heART
Project and Special Kids. A big thank you to everyone for their generosity and compassion.
Many children today turn up to school half asleep and hungry. This combination is proving to be
a key factor in why some children are finding learning difficult and aren’t reaching their full
potential.
Breakfast is considered to be the most important meal of the day – but one in four children in Australia currently skip breakfast. At school, research indicates that a hungry child can lose
concentration in class, have no energy for playtime and snack on unhealthy foods, such as chips or biscuits. A calm and healthy breakfast every day, is the best defense against this happening.
It also helps children to develop good habits that they can carry through life.
Sleep researcher and psychologist Dr Sarah Blunden, from the Centre for Sleep Research at the University of South Australia, believes that poor sleep routines in children can also affect their
capacity to learn. Not only does poor sleep affect a child’s memory and attention span but also their ability to think and behaviour appropriately. Blunden states that primary school children require 10 to12 hours of sleep a night and suggests that without this sleep, children are not able
to function well.
As parents it is our responsibility to ensure that our children have the best opportunities in life, especially when it comes to their education. We are their first role models, so it is important that
we assist them in developing a positive sleep routine and encourage healthy eating habits,
starting with breakfast each day.
Kathryn Pepper - REL / Student Support
Is your child getting enough sleep each night and starting the day with a
healthy breakfast?

TRINITY CAR PARK ETIQUETTE For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all
drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are
demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking
area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles
promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval)
are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up
Zone ONLY.
The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-
UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to
the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of
the pick-up queue.
There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All
vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain
traffic flow.
THE GATES CLOSE AT 9.00am AND RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm.
Occasionally they might re-open slightly later due to school
activities.
Thank you for your patience and consideration of others.

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER 10th AUGUST 2016
WE PRAY FOR: those Mothers expecting babies; those parents undergoing

HOW TO GRIEVE: 5 MYTHS THAT HURT. (conclusion)
Myth#5: GRIEVING SHOULD END AFTER A SET AMOUNT OF TIME. Ignore oft-quoted rules of thumb that purport to predict how long certain types of grief should last. A
downside to six-week or eight-week bereavement groups, says Sherry S. Showalter, a
psychotherapist specializing in grief and the author of Healing Heartaches: Stories of Loss and Life, is at the end of the sessions, people mistakenly expect to be “better”( or their
friends expect this of them.)” We grieve for a lifetime, because we’re forever working to incorporate the death into our own tapestry of life”. Learning how to grieve is ultimately
part instinct, part stumbling along, part slogging along – a bit like learning how to live.
A WORD FROM POPE FRANCIS: “God wanted to be born into a human family: he wanted to
have a mother and father like us. I often think that a good indicator for knowing how a family is
doing is seeing how their children and elderly are treated. (A Year with Pope Francis on the Family,
page 233.234.)
Father’s Day Breakfast

STEWARDSHIP Stewardship recognizes that everything we are and everything we have is a gift from God.
Genuine thanksgiving means using those gifts as God would want – developing them and sharing them with others. It is our responsibility as good stewards in Our Lady Help of Christians Parish – Narre Warren to respond to the words of Pope Francis – “…….to set ourselves on the ideals of
service that makes our talents fruitful.”
