Lord, You invite all who are burdened to come to you. Allow Your healing hand to heal them. Touch their soul with Your compassion for others. Touch their Heart with Your courage and infinite love for all. Touch their mind with Your wisdom, that their mouth may always pro-claim Your praise. Te-ach them to reach out to You in their need, and

help them to lead others to You by example. Most loving Heart of Jesús, bring them health in body and spirit that they may serve You with all their strength. Touch gently these lives which You have created, now and forever. Amen.

Gospel: Mark 9: 30-37 When people suspect that something bad is about to hap-

pen, fear sometimes causes them to stick their heads in the sand and pretend that everything will remain the same. When Jesus tried to tell his disci-ples about how he would soon suffer and die, they were afraid to ask him any questions. They acted as though everything would stay the same. They

even argued about who was the greatest among them. So Jesus cor-rected them by saying that whoever wanted to be the greatest would have to be the servant of all. Embracing a small child, Jesus told the disciples, "Whoever welcomes a child such as this welcomes me." He wanted them to understand that they were to be willing servants with the childlike qualities of innocence, honesty, and lack of pretension. Jesus identified himself with the innocent child who is completely de-pendent on God. 1.) What kinds of bad news at home or at school might people your age not want to face? 2.) Do you think it is better to act as though everything will be alright, or to ask questions about what might happen? 3.) Why? In what ways have you ever been involved in argu ments about "Who's the greatest?

Why do we sometimes use incense in the Mass? Today’s incense is made from Frankincense, which is derived from the sap of desert trees. It has been prized in the Middle East for centuries, and became associated with Jesus since the Magi (The Wise Men) offered it as a gift (Matthew 2:10-11). The sweet smell of incense is intended to please God and its smoke is like our prayers rising up to Heaven. Incense can be used during Mass to show reverence for the altar, the Gospels, the bread and wine, the assembly or con-gregation, and the body of the deceased during a funeral. God bless you. Fr. Alex

Padre Alex
