Twenty-Eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Matthew 22:1-14
“Jesus again spoke to the chief priest and
elders of the people in parables...”
Jesus told many parables. They were stories, not neces-sarily based on fact, but that communicated an important truth. Jesus used parables to get the attention of the people and to make them think. Jesus even used para-bles to teach truth to the “chief priest and elders of the people.” And apparently, they listened to him. He tells them about a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. The servants that were sent to the “invited guest” are mistreated and killed. The king fills the feast with people ordinarily thought unworthy. God invites us to a great feast - the wonderful world he has created for us. Unfor-tunately we can create our own small world filled with our own self-centered interest and ignore the opportunity to share with others in God’s world and the joy of growing in our relationship with God. The chief priest understood that Jesus was challenging them to be better. Do we un-derstand he is challenging us as well?
Knights of Columbus Chicken Cook October 17th will be the first ever Knights of Columbus BBQ Chicken Cook. Cost will be $10 for whole chickens and can be picked up starting at 1:00pm. Although there will be a couple dozen extra for roadside sales at the hall, preorder is preferred. To place an order call Joey Smith at 270-903-8986. Thank you.
Disciples Response Fund
The October 16-17 Liturgies are the Disciples Response Fund Masses. Bishop Medley will give us a reflection on the Gospel and ask you to support this important Dioce-san Ministry. As the Diocese has significantly increased its response to those economically impacted by the coro-navirus, we are all being asked to be as generous as pos-sible. Please spend some prayerful time reflecting on how we might generously respond.
Please Pray for all the sick †
St. Peter: Jennifer Ebelhar, Lillian Young, Joe
Coomes, Rosie Clary, Kenneth Williams, John & Judy Payne, and Gabrielle Hart.
Note: Names will be purged every 3 months unless
otherwise advised
Word of Life Weekly Quote
“I would now like to say a special word to women who have had an abortion. The Church is aware of the many factors which may have influenced your decision, and she does not doubt that in many cases it was a painful and even shattering decision. The wound in your heart may not yet have healed. ...The Father of mercies is ready to give you his forgiveness and his peace in the Sacrament of Reconciliation.”
Pope Saint John Paul II, Evangelium vitae, no. 99.
