TWENTY FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: STRIVING TO FOLLOW JESUS In today´s gospel from Luke we hear that Jesus goes from one place to another teaching all those he encounters. No one is excluded from those teachings, because the will of the Father is that all may be saved. One among those listening asks him: “how many will be saved?” On the one hand the question makes me laugh, can there be a limit to those saved? We know some sects have a certain number, so why do they continue to try get more members into their house of worship? On another hand, we have people saying that all will be saved, God is merciful and He cannot leave anyone behind. Well He is, but who does the leaving behind, God or the human being? Jesus was strongly criticized by those who knew the law, because he got close to the sinner, those forgotten or set aside by those who thought they were in the right, the just in their own eyes. There is no limit to those who will be saved, it´s not about numbers, it about a way of life. It’s about listening to what Jesus has to tell us and then trying our best to live a life worthy of a follower of Christ. Sometimes we worry about the wrong things, if we're invited to a feast, we worry about who is going to be there. When we go to the eucharist, do we worry about those who are going to be there? I´m not going, because so and so is going to be there. Well, we will lose out to the invitation to the greatest banquet, where we are convoked as individuals to form a community, with Christ as our head. We are invited to heal and ask forgiveness as a community of sinners called to sainthood. We are invited to listen to the living Word, which has a message for each of us today. We are invited to pray together “the Lord´s prayer”, asking the Father for our daily bread. What a trusting and transformative prayer when we pray it well, because it leads us then enter to give Christ´s peace to each other. Remember what He said: “my peace I give you, not like the world gives it.” Then we go to receive Christ and become one with Him. Do we forget that we are tabernacles of the Lord? It should always invite to think about what we say, what we do and how we manifest that He is alive in us for all. How will we enter the narrow door? By striving each day to follow Christ with humility and faithfully. Each day trying to carry the cross that comes as Jesus himself taught us. Be Blessed!

VIGÉSIMO PRIMER DOMINGO: ESFORZÁNDONOS EN SEGUIR A JESÚS

En el evangelio de hoy de Lucas, escuchamos que Jesús va de un lugar a otro enseñando a todos los que encuentra. Nadie está excluido de esas enseñanzas, porque la voluntad del Padre es que todos puedan salvarse. Uno de los que le escucha le pregunta: "¿cuántos se salvarán?". En una mano, la pregunta me hace reír, ¿puede haber un límite para los salvados? Sabemos que algunas sectas tienen un cierto número, entonces, ¿por qué continúan tratando de atraer a más miembros a su lugar de culto? Por otro lado, tenemos personas que dicen que todos serán salvos, Dios es misericordioso y no puede dejar a nadie atrás. Bueno, lo es, pero ¿quién deja atrás, a Dios o al ser humano? Jesús fue fuertemente criticado por aquellos que conocían la ley, porque se acercó al pecador, aquellos olvidados o apartados por aquellos que pensaban que estaban en lo correcto, lo justo en sus propios ojos. No hay límite para los que se salvarán, no se trata de números, se trata de una forma de vida. Se trata de escuchar lo que Jesús nos tiene que decir y luego hacer todo lo posible para vivir una vida digna de un seguidor de Cristo. A veces nos preocupamos por las cosas equivocadas, si nos invitan a una fiesta, nos preocupamos por quién va a estar allí. Cuando vamos a la eucaristía, ¿nos preocupamos por los que van a estar allí? No voy, porque tal y tal va a estar allí. Bueno, perderemos la invitación al banquete más grande, donde seremos convocados como individuos para formar una comunidad, con Cristo como nuestra cabeza. Estamos invitados a sanar y pedir perdón como una comunidad de pecadores llamados a la santidad. Estamos invitados a escuchar la Palabra viva, que tiene un mensaje para cada uno de nosotros hoy. Estamos invitados a rezar juntos "la oración del Señor", pidiéndole al Padre nuestro pan de cada día. Qué oración tan confiada y transformadora cuando la rezamos bien, porque nos lleva a entrar para darnos la paz de Cristo. Recuerda lo que dijo: "mi paz te doy, no como la da el mundo". Luego vamos a recibir a Cristo y ser uno con Él. ¿Olvidamos que somos tabernáculos del Señor? Siempre debería invitarnos a pensar en lo que decimos, lo que hacemos y cómo manifestamos que Él está vivo en nosotros para todos. ¿Cómo entraremos por la puerta angosta? Al esforzarse cada día por seguir a Cristo con humildad y fidelidad. Cada día tratando de llevar la cruz que viene como Jesús mismo nos enseñó. ¡Se bendecido!

Pope: Fire of God’s love burns in charity Pope Francis reflected on the day’s Gospel (Lk 12:49-33), in which Jesus tells his disciples that the time has come to make a decisive choice in favor of the Gospel. Sacrament of Marriage For a marriage ceremony at St. John the Baptist or Our Lady of Good Counsel, arrangements must be made with the Pastor at least 1 year before the wedding date. The diocesan Marriage Preparation or “Pre-Cana” classes are presented in English, Spanish, Creole, Polish and Italian. The Diocese of Brooklyn have specialized Pre-Cana for Interfaith/Interchurch couples, for couples who are re-marrying and for couples who are convalidating their civil unions. HOLY SACRAMENTS

Infant Baptism Birth to 6 yrs. Infant baptisms are celebrated on the first Sunday of every month. Baptism preparation class for parents and Godparents are held on the Tuesday prior to the Baptism Sunday. Parent(s) or Godparent(s), please bring an original birth certificate of the child to the main office where you can begin the process of registration for this beautiful sacrament.

Children’s Faith Formation ages 7 yrs. to 15 yrs. (Baptism, First Holy Communion, Confirmation) Our Children’s Faith Formation program provides preparation of the Holy Sacraments for children. The program follows Diocesan Guidelines for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Children. The hours for children's faith formation classes are Sunday, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Pentecost Confirmation 16 yrs. and older Are you baptized and received First Holy Communion but have not completed the Sacrament of Confirmation and you are over the age of 16? Our Confirmation only program begins in January in preparation for Pentecost Confirmation typically at the end of May or beginning of June.

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) (Becoming a Catholic)

Are you baptized? Have you received First Holy Communion? Are you Confirmed? Adults and youth at least 16 yrs. of age seeking full initiation into the Catholic Church are invited to enter into a process of faith formation. RCIA classes are all year round.

LOS SACRAMENTOS Bautismo para bebes nacimiento a 6 años

Los bautismos para bebes se celebran el primer domingo de cada mes. La clase de preparación del bautismo para los padres y padrinos es el martes antes del domingo del bautismo. Padres o Padrinos, traiga el certificado de nacimiento original del niño a la oficina principal donde pueden comenzar el proceso de inscripción para este hermoso sacramento.

Formación de Fe para Niños 7 años hasta 15 años (Bautismo, Primera Comunión, Confirmación) El programa de formación de fe para nuestros niños se prepara los niños para sus Sacramentos. El programa sigue las Directrices Diocesanas para el Rito de Iniciación Cristiana de los Niños. Las horas para las clases son domingo, 9:30 A.M. -1:00 P.M.

Confirmación de Pentecostés 16 años y adelante ¿Se ha bautizado y recibido la Primera Comunión pero no ha completado el Sacramento de la Confirmación y tiene más de 16 años de edad? Nuestro programa de Confirmación solo comienza en enero en preparación para la Confirmación de Pentecostés típicamente en mayo o junio.

Rito de Iniciación Cristiana para Adultos: R.I.C.A. (Convertirse Católico)

¿Está bautizado? ¿Has recibido la Primera Comunión? ¿Está Confirmado? Se invita a los adultos y jóvenes 16 años y adelante, que buscan la iniciación completa en la Iglesia Católica para entrar en un proceso de formación de fe. Las clases de R.I.C.A. son todo el año.
