Father Armando Red / Padre Armando Red

To The Faithful of St Mary Parish and St. Anne Mission: I am Reverend Armando Vasquez Red, a Roman Catholic Priest from the Diocese of Legazpi, Philippines and current-ly serving the Archdiocese of Seattle, presently assigned in the Parish of St. Mary and St. Mission at Marysville, Washington in America as parochial vicar.

I was born on January 1, 1949 at Libon, Albay Philippines, the second child of the three siblings of Amando and Remedios Vasquez. I entered the seminary after elementary school at the diocesan seminary of Legazpi and finished my seminary course at the Holy Rosary Regional Seminary in Naga City Philippines.

I was ordained priest on March 25, 1974 on the feast of the Annunciation and from then on was assigned in different parishes from small, medium, and big parishes.I was appointed too in different positions in the diocesan Curia such as, member of the board of consultors, personal board, pesbyteral council and as the diocesan director of the Social Ac-tion, the local "caritas" of the diocese.

After 25 years in the ministry, the diocese sent me to America to represent the bishop in the Mission Appeal program. While doing the the entrusted work I also got an appointment as parochial vicar in some of the dioceses I worked in America.

Not getting any younger, I retired from the task given me and opted to stay awhile in America only to find myself working in the Archdiocese of Seattle and to date, here I am working and serving the community of faith of St. Mary and St. Anne Mission.

Now, I am here not so much because of me, but despite of me, not so much to become somebody but to become some-one to God and to the community of faith in St Mary and St. Anne Mission. You may not like me as Armando Vasquez Red, but am sure you'll learn to accept the "priest" in me.Thank and in peace that binds us all

Serving you in joy.

Fr. Armando Vasquez Red

“Mother Teresa, in all aspects of her life, was a generous dispenser of divine mercy, making herself available for everyone through her welcome and defense of human life, those unborn and those abandoned and discarded. She was committed to defending life, ceaselessly proclaiming that “the unborn are the weakest, the smallest, the most vulnerable”. She bowed down before those who were spent, left to die on the side of the road, seeing in them their God-given dignity; she made her voice heard before the powers of this world, so that they might recognize their guilt for the crime of poverty they created. For Mother Teresa, mercy was the “salt” which gave flavor to her work, it was the “light” which shone in the darkness of the many who no longer had tears to shed for their poverty and suffering.” - Pope Francis, Homily for the Canonization of Mother Teresa

Adult Formation and Discipleship Updates!

Learning the Liturgy

(This is going to be a new feature in our bulletin. If you have a question about the liturgy, please send it to Michael at [email protected] or drop it off at the front office!)

Q. Why are we supposed to go to Mass every Sun-day (and Holy Day of obligation)?

A. Our relationship with God isn’t just between us and God– otherwise God wouldn’t have made a covenant with the people of Israel, and Jesus wouldn’t have founded a Church. It is a group thing– we have to learn to follow both great commandments– love God and love neighbor. In the liturgy we do both– the high point of Mass is Communion– where we come as close to Christ as is possible to be this side of heaven, but at the same time are entering into that communion with all our brothers and sisters around us. The Church gathered together on Sundays is the Body of Christ. We became members of this body through Baptism. As we learned last week, the liturgy is the work of Christ that we are privileged to participate in. To absent ourselves without a legitimate reason (sickness, inability to get there) is to say that we are not members of that Body.
