James Boardman-Woodend and Douglas Gregor will present two very different aspects of the genre. Following his wonderful talk at WCC last week, James says "photographing the natural world can roughly be broken down into five areas: equipment, technique, specialised areas of photography, locations & ethics". In the time available James will briefly cover the first two, in particular, equipment, useful settings & technique. Douglas will talk about photographing insects with a macro lens, explaining exactly what macro is - and what it's not. He'll cover how to cope with very small 'depth of field', touching on his experiments with 'focus stacking' and why he doesn't use it. He'll describe how he focuses and methods to avoid messy backgrounds. Douglas will also include information about taking insects in flight. Both James and Douglas will show a range of images, including those where improvements were required. The equipment they use will also be a feature of the evening. Whatever your level of interest and/or ability, this will be a fascinating evening. The second part will feature images from members about which advice, suggestions and improvements are sought. PAGB News

WCC is a corporate member of the Twinning Association who are appealing for help. Lots ofphoto-opps at the Fayre!

The Worcester Christmas Fayre opens on 24th November & Worcester TwinningAssociation has responsibility for 4 stalls, 3 of which will be manned by  guests from Kleve,Le Vesinet and Ukmerge. Our own stall however, has to be manned by us.

We do still need volunteers to man the stall during the Christmas Fayre period - 24 to 26November (this year we are not opening any of the twinning stalls on Sunday).  Please tryto make some time during the Christmas Fayre (24 to 26 November) to help man the stallon behalf of the Association, and to take part with our guests from our twin towns duringthis time.

If you can help please email  Margaret  or  tel (01905) 358428.

Christmas Fayre - can you help?

174 now out; wellworth a read.

Feedback

There can’t be many camera clubs which enjoy the benefit of a weekly news magazine ofthe quality of Worcester’s.So I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Ruth for her diligence in providing us withsuch excellent quality information which really must take up a good portion of her time toresearch and then edit so effectively for the benefit of the club members. Many thanks Ruth,

Pam Turner

Members’ News and Images

Remember that Karen also welcomes your images for website headers, too. Here’s how to format them. Thanks to those who have sentin updates recently. It’s a bird theme for starters today….

Bearded tit, female, Leighton Moss. Barrie Glover took this on the recent WCC outing with Pam andDouglas. The tits proved rather unco-operative but a good time was had.

Les Bailey has been   further testing the Fuji XT 2/100-400 combo and finds it “Amazingly sharp…” Headds:- ”The wrens (overleaf) are male and female, having both popped out of the holes in that old treetrunk.  The pheasants (this page)  are our most colourful bird I believe, males that is, the female is a dull oldbird.  Red-legged partridge (overleaf) was in a field near my house, in the bottom of a hedgerow.  I'd like tohave lain on the ground, but didn't really relish getting covered in brown smelly stuff… Not the world'sgreatest image, however you have to stay a respectable distance away and avoid disturbing the bird.  She wasvery tenacious though, and I believe hatched about a dozen chicks, which simply all disappeared.  I believethat’s normal.
