The Gospels are generally very rich in symbols and these symbols help us to understand better the salvific message of the scriptures. The three women in the story “brought spices with which to anoint him (Jesus)”; they did not, therefore, expect any resurrection from the dead. Many of us are still skeptical about the resurrection. Jesus is risen today. We shall also rise on to new life after death. The Gospel text also gives us three expressions symbolizing new life: “very early in the morning”, “on the first day of the week, they went to the tomb”, “and the sun was rising.” These expressions, if you reflect carefully, are very consoling and assuring. They indi- cate that the day of great darkness, disturbance and pessimism as implied in the crucifixion, did not last “forever”. The events on this morning, very early the next day, brought a new dawn. It was truly a time of new light. Our own days of darkness shall also be over. Have trust in God!!! Consider also that the stone in front of the tomb is removed, by whom? God of course! This also symbolizes the fact that the many obstacles which we know are blocking us from enjoying the fullness of life that God has given us are being removed by the same God. The Gospels are generally very rich in symbols and these

symbols help us to understand better the salvific message of

the scriptures. The three women in the story “brought spices

with which to anoint him (Jesus)”; they did not, therefore,

expect any resurrection from the dead. Many of us are still

skeptical about the resurrection. Jesus is risen today. We shall

also rise on to new life after death. The Gospel text also gives

us three expressions symbolizing new life: “very early in the

morning”, “on the first day of the week, they went to the

tomb”, “and the sun was rising.” These expressions, if you

reflect carefully, are very consoling and assuring. They indi-

cate that the day of great darkness, disturbance and pessimism

as implied in the crucifixion, did not last “forever”. The

events on this morning, very early the next day, brought a

new dawn. It was truly a time of new light. Our own days of

darkness shall also be over. Have trust in God!!! Consider

also that the stone in front of the tomb is removed, by whom?

God of course! This also symbolizes the fact that the many

obstacles which we know are blocking us from enjoying the

fullness of life that God has given us are being removed by

the same God.

DSA Parish Report As a community we all need to reach the DSA goal set for us by the Diocese of Charlotte of $11,485.00. Our parish has 12 families participating thus far in the DSA campaign. St. Benedict has many, many more families than the 12 that have pledged to the DSA this year. Please, let us not leave the burden of this goal to those few. We need everyone’s support. Please pick up an envelope to make your pledge today.

On Monday, April 2, 2018, there will not be a 12:10 pm Mass at St. Benedict the Moor.
