Ramblings
from Fr. Michael Greetings and peace to everyone. I hope and pray that my words are
finding everyone healthy and well.
Those of you currently at the parish will have noticed that we have
begun work on improving the landscaping around the church. Sadly,
due to financial constraints in recent years, the parish was unable to care for the property as
we would have wished. However, we had come to a point when something really had to be
done. Many of you brought this to my attention. After careful consideration, we decided that
we had no choice but to address the situation. The Women’s Guild and the Knights of Co-
lumbus responded by each making a very generous gift to the parish, part of which would be
designated for this project. This enabled us to move ahead with our improvement plans. A
sincere thank you to the Guild and the Knights for your generosity.
One of our greatest headaches at St. Michaels in season is our lack of parking space. With
this in mind, we walked the property recently and looked at the space on the north side of the
church from the dumpsters to Midnight Pass Road. Currently this space is occupied by Cab-
bage Palms. . . many of them! Cabbage Palms are an invasive species which grow indiscrimi-
nately anywhere! In light of this, we made the decision to remove them to use this space for
parking. As of today, there are still 227 trees on our property! These we have trimmed as
part of our beautifying project. Personally I dislike the cutting down any trees but I feel that
we had to make this decision to better accommodate our parishioners especially during the
busy season.
Due to the work that is being carried out on the grounds (pruning, removal and replacement
of dead plants and bushes, etc.), the overall ‘look’ of the property will be compromised for a
time. This is part of the process. I’m hopeful that by September or October, things will have
begun to improve and we will once again enjoy and be proud of our beautiful church grounds.
I thank you for your understanding as we move forward with this work. Additionally, if any-
one would wish to help us cover some more of the cost of this project, we would be very
grateful.
Oh yes, we have contracted with a different landscaping company.
Wishing everyone a blessed week,
Fr. Michael
