JANUARY 22, 2016 THE WOODLANDS CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Sophomores - Big Bend National Park. 5800 ACADEMY WAY . THE WOODLANDS, TEXAS 77384 . 936-273-2555 . WWW.TWCA.NET Head Of School Notes In the spring of 2012, we began a capital campaign to fund construction of a 28,000 square foot classroom building. After receiving cash and pledges sufficient to cover the $3.6 million costs, we procured a $2.5 construction loan from Woodforest Bank (to be repaid from pledges) and broke ground in May 2013. The Joshua Academic Center opened in January 2014. I am pleased to announce that the construction loan for the Joshua Academic Center has now been completely repaid! We are eternally grateful to the many families and friends who sacrificially funded this beautiful building for our students. (Please see the list of donors on the following page. A plaque recognizing all who gave $10,000 or more will be placed in the building in February.) The addition of the Joshua Academic Center enabled us to eliminate three modular classroom buildings, provide safer facilities, accommodate more students, offer a state-of-the-art learning environment, and enhance the overall beauty of The Woodlands Christian Academy campus. Since completion of the Joshua Academic Center, we have also completed a second gymnasium and added an eight-lane track, synthetic turf and stadium seating, all without adding any additional debt. In keeping with our master plan, the next project will be a new high school building; the Nehemiah Academic Center will then accommodate our middle school students. I am awed and humbled by the generosity of the Woodlands Christian community. Thank you to everyone who stepped forward in faith to fund not only the Joshua Academic Center, but so many other facilities and programs. May God bless you abundantly for faithfully contributing to the growth of a campus that strives to build leaders for Christ’s eternal kingdom.

Spelling Bee News

Students Compete Well At ACSI Regional Spelling Bee

The Woodlands Christian Academy had a spectacular showing at the ACSI Regional Spelling bee at Alpha Omega Academy in Huntsville on Friday, January 15.  Out of the 150 students competing in the spelling bee, eighth grade student Connor Davis finished

in 9th place overall and seventh grade student Connor Dechiro finished in 12th place! In the seventh grade division, Connor Dechiro had to face his classmate, Reece Ray, in a spell off in order to advance to the next round. Tanner Torres also gave a great effort in the seventh grade competition.  Sixth grade students representing Woodlands Christian were Anne McCoy, and Rachel McKay who advanced to the ninth round. Also competing in the sixth grade division was Daniel Sharron who advanced to the eighth round. Of the 28 students competing in the fourth grade division, Gianna Radvansky finished in 4th place and endured 17 rounds of competition! Also competing in the fourth grade division was Cara Kent.

Third grade was represented by Hudson Howard, Alistair Cuevas and Tami Adesiyan. In the fifth grade competition, Ben Paylor made it all the way to the fifth round of this very tough division. Also representing the fifth grade were Katie Wise and Evan Giacona. The competition was tough, but our students persevered and proudly represented TWCA!

Re-Enrollment Deadline Is Thursday, February 11! The final day for submitting enrollment contracts for the

2016-2017 school year is Thursday, February 11 at 4:00 p.m. After this date, early enrollment discounts expire and

all available class slots will be filled with students in our wait pool. In response to suggestions from many parents in the fall survey, we have for the first time disclosed

potential additional fees (trips, athletics, laptops, etc.) in the contracts to help families plan.  In the past, these fees were not released and billed until the fall, often catching families by surprise.

Not all of these fees are due now, but we hope that communicating these fees in advance will be helpful to you.

If you did not receive your contract or if you have questions, please contact Kathy Montes in the business office. [email protected] or 936-273-2555, ext. 1005.
