Wyndham Spelling Bee

Congratulations to Busy B (year 4) and Ashmi S (year 6) on representing Woodville at this year’s Wyndham

Spelling Bee. Both girls did an amazing job and made us all proud.

Well done girls, fantastic effort!

The Spelling Bee –By Ashmi S

What an awesome night it was! The Spelling Bee took place in the Wyndham Cultural Centre. I was the Grade 5/6 representative and Busy was the Grade 3/4 representative. We were there for Woodville. There were many other schools from the local area competing. Some of the words I had to spell were: sultry, exciting, ensued and theology. The word I got wrong was edifice. I was upset. I came 5th in the competition. It was my third time participating in the Spelling Bee. We had lots of fun backstage spelling the words of the other competitors. In the end, I tried my best and I’m sure I will try and win next year.

Literacy & Numeracy Week

Wow!!! What a week we have had at Woodville. Every class has contributed a page to the 2018 Whole

School Woodville book. Every student contributed a page to their Class Book that was read and judged by all

classes across the school. Claire Saxby (Australian Author) worked with our students and spoke about

planning, drafting and editing a book and her life as an author.

Wednesday evening was Family Night. We had a fantastic turnout with students sharing their learning that

takes place every day at Woodville with family and friends. A great night was had by all.

Thursday morning began with a parade to celebrate Literacy & Numeracy Week at Woodville, followed by a

Multi Age Day where the students had the opportunity to work on fun and engaging tasks with students across

the school. Daily activity cards, Scavenger Hunt, lunchtime activities have all added to the excitement.

Events like this do not take place without the dedication and commitment of the staff at Woodville. A fantastic

job by all.

Japanese Cultural Day for Prep to Grade 2

On Wednesday 29th August, we had a Japanese Cultural Day for Prep to Grade 2 students. Students explored the Japanese culture through the hands on activities. This year we made a Kazaguruma (windmill), Japanese fan, Tanuki (Racoon dog) wallet, Samurai Helmet and Teru teru bouze (Shiny Monk). Students enjoyed a delicious Japanese Obento (lunch box). We also had special guest performers, Nick and Emiko from World Goju Ryu Karate-Do Academy. We watched Karate performances and tried the Karate kata (form). Miyuki Wirth Japanese teacher

Year 3/4 News Over the past few weeks the students in the 3 and 4 teams have been looking at the many uses of QR

Codes. We have been exploring these in our reading, writing, numeracy and our integrated work. We are

really enjoy using the app to scan and explore a variety of different learning situations.

Senior School News

Students in Year 6 will begin Graduation practise this week. They will practise their dance performances on a fortnightly basis and continue to finalise details for the evening. The Year 6 students were very excited to find out that the theme for the event will be ‘Tropical Paradise’. The 5/6 teaching staff are still accepting song suggestions from the students for the night. Notes inviting parents to the special night will be sent home at the start of Term 4.

FATHER’S DAY STALL A big thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who helped at the Father’s Day Stall. Without your help our school would not be able to offer such wonderful opportunities for our students! This year our stall made a profit of $1200. This is an amazing amount!
