The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is an agency within the U.S. Department of Transportation that is responsible for ensuring that America’s roads and highways continue to be safe and technologically sound.

• FHWA won several awards for implementing a flipped classroom approach to train their dispersed workforce on operations and safety disciplines.

• The flipped classrooms used engaging video elements and online classroom discussions to greatly reduce training costs and increase participation.

Small Business Administration

The Office of Entrepreneurship Education's mission is to provide entrepreneurial information and education, resources and tools to help small businesses succeed.

• SBA developed the Partner Training Portal to help reach and train over 15,000 mentors and counselors who serve small businesses.

• Federal Executive Institute (FEI) modernized their Leadership in a Democratic Society (LDS) Crisis Leadership course, using engaging videos and virtual discussion groups.

• The course covered how to be a leader during a variety of government crises, such as the recent shutdown, the active shooter situation in Navy Yard and the evacuation of a Chicago Air Traffic Control Center.

Young Government Leader’s (YGL’s) mission is to educate, inspire, and transform the current and future leaders of government.

• GovLoop worked with YGL to design and launch YGL University, an innovative, crowd-sourced learning platform.

• Developed to be a learning Pinterest for government, members can:– Share their online and offline learning

experiences– Browse recommendations from other

members– Create an action plan that they can

Natural Resources Canada

Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) seeks to enhance the responsible development and use of Canada’s natural resources and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resources products.

• The IN.spire Innovation Hub at NRCan created and hosted the first ever completely virtual conference for the Government of Canada in October 2015.

• The event connected public servants from seven different time zones in an interactive, virtual environment that enabled them to network, collaborate and download additional resources.

• Sessions explored the talent revolution, open government and innovation.
